Doesnt even flinch, he just stands there, aiming his rifle at you for a solid 10 seconds, mumbling to himself, before charging headfirst at you yelling "FIGHT ME COWARDS!"

    I feel like the thing with the American Uniforms was more a matter of what they had to give priority to given that you'd spend most of the game looking at the Germans rather than the Americans, so they likely spent the bulk of their resources in researching and modelling the German kit, just the realities of game development most likely.

    • @theriveracis5172
      @theriveracis5172 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I'd wager it's a modeling time restriction, myself. Rather than have a bunch of different uniforms modeled for Americans, they went with one that could more or less be used everywhere.
      Like you say, most folk aren't likely to look at them too much. So it'd probably work out for most folk.
      Still surprised they didn't at least separate an officer and a NCO uniform, though

    • @ilo3456
      @ilo3456 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@theriveracis5172
      Yeah but at the end of the day game development is all about priorities, what is going to be worth more for the time we spend on it, if the Americans are only going to be in 1 missions there is not much point in doing more than 1 or even a handful of American uniforms, why spend so many resources in something that will not give as much return overall.
      At the end of the day you have to pay someone to make those models and texture work, and it takes time, which are both things that could be spent elsewhere like for example a German vehicle or to make the maps nicer and prettier to look at, or even spend that money doing more research into stuff that will be way more in the limelight.

    I believe the G43 was often issued with nothing more than stripper clips. The K98 pouches are acceptable given how few extra magazines were in circulation. In the same situation, I would have probably preferred to use stripper clips.

    • @simonandsimbagaming
      @simonandsimbagaming 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I'm pretty sure the G43 was issued with one additional magazine, but that was intended for if the first one got damaged.

    • @anthonyargent3964
      @anthonyargent3964 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The G43 was issued with box magazines, but could be reloaded with stripper clips like an SKS if you ran out of filled magazines in battle. From wikipedia: "Soldiers armed with the weapon typically carried one standard stripper clip pouch and a Gewehr 43 pouch with two spare magazines."
      So you'd have your magazine in the rifle plus two filled ones in your pouch, and if you ran out mid-battle, you could either fill it from the top with stripper clips, or if there was a bit of downtime in the battle you could take a moment to fill up your spare mags.
      A lot of the semi-auto weapons of that era used stripper clips into a box magazine, or some equivalent. From the soviet SVT being able to accept mosin stripper mags, to the G41 being a fixed, non-detachable box mag filled with stripper clips, right up to AA guns like the Bofors and some machine guns like the French Hotchkiss using stripper clips to load for automatic fire. Even the Garand sort of fits this, being en-bloc clips instead of a magazine, and even the post-war Russian SKS used fixed box mags filled from the top with stripper clips.

    • @christianwilson5956

      @@simonandsimbagaming somewhere along these lines. it was intended primarily for the use of stripper clips. Similar to the lee Enfield the magazine can be removed but it's not something you want to be doing under stress. stripper clips are a far easier combat reload.

  • @rustyrussell2537
    @rustyrussell2537 2 ปีที่แล้ว +118

    It's actually a common misconception that box magazines for rifles were standard in ww2, yes there were belts for box magazines, most of the time soldiers used five around striper clips.
    The reason why they used clips instead of magazines was practically and economic. The ammo belts for G43 or SVT box magazines would most of the time let a single soldier carry four mags meaning that he only had forty rounds.
    However striper clips are not as big and bulky as magazines so you could put two or maybe even four five round clips in one pouch. And the ammo belt in the game has six pouches so it's possibility that soldier has maybe sixty or hundred and twenty rounds instead of forty.
    And now the economic reasons. Magazines are expensive so you can't just throw them away that would be waste of resources and they are big and heavy so putting that back in your belt adds unnecessary weight. Clips on the other hand are very cheap, you don't have to put them back in your belt, they are small and light, and no one's gonna go in a frenzy when you loose them.
    So it would be accurate for most standard infantrymen to not have a belt meant for box magazines.

    • @olekzajac5948
      @olekzajac5948 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      From what I know the doctrine for the Gew 43 use presumed using three magazines - one in the rifle and two spare, and carrying the rest of the ammo in in the stripper clips.
      That also changed, initially to two magazines and then to just one in the rifle, as the war went on and magazines became more scarce due to material shortages.

    About the Tiger II - I do believe that they used Tiger II #104 for that one. Tiger 104 was a Tiger II with the 1. Kompanie of s.SS.Pz.Abt 101, which coincides neatly with the LSSAH Pak 36 you found there. That vehicle was knocked out by a 17-pdr, one of the first Tiger IIs to be lost and captured in France by the Commonwealth. Its engine is currently powering Tiger 131, the only working Tiger I in the world. Bit anachronistic for the 101 specifically to have received Tiger IIs by this date (June 11th), they would've gone back to get theirs after Totalize in August fucked up the entire battalion, but I definitely know one Tiger II company was working under Knispel for 21st Panzer.
    As of time of writing, 78 years ago, s.SS.Pz.Abt 101 should be recuperating after Shitmann lost his entire 2nd company at the Bocage, probably somewhere south of Hill 112.

The first sub using these tiles went into service on the 6th of October 1943, it was the U-480 (Type VIIC). At the end of May 1944 it was tested against the U-247 and U-999, both of which didn't have the coating. Fun fact, the rubber coating for U-Boats in this game actually existed and was called 'Albreich'. It was applied mostly to Type VIIC/41 U-Boats, with a total of around 10, the main example being U-1105 which was captured by the British and used in post-war military trials before being transferred to the US for 'explosive testing', she was sunk once in 48' then again in 49' because I'm assuming we thought it was funny to blow up a U-Boat twice, she was raised from the sea floor and sunk the final time with a 250 pound MK 6 depth charge suspended 30 feet beneath her hull. U-1105, or at least the remains of her, were rediscovered on 29 June, 1985 by a team of support divers led by Uwe Lovas. In November 1994, U-1105 was designated Maryland's first historic shipwreck preserve and was a preserved dive site at a depth of 91 feet. Differential GPS: 38-08.09' N, 076-33.09'W.

Although, a lot of soldiers not wearing helmets is concerning, they probably did it to diversify how the enemy soldiers look in a way, rather than them all being copy and pastes with the exception of the faces. But not seeing 50 paratroopers in the middle of Berlin on May of 1945 is quite a treat. Especially with how they did their best to make the entire game feel authentic to WW2, and not just copy CoD Vanguard. The german kit, overall, is quite good albeit basic. The regular infantry is clearly based on a reenactor, as the gas mask can is identical to the modern reproduction cans. The tunic is an early war M36, with early war Litzen on the collar. The shirt is the mid-late war soft cotton it seems, which is a common reenactor-ism. The boots are well done, especially gamaschen with the low boots.
    You do have one mistake early in the video regarding low boots. They were not issued as a cost-saving measure, they were issued alongside the marching boots. Their frequency within units all depended on the unit itself. Some units were only issued lowboots and others just marching boots.
    The officer seems to be wearing the iron cross first class, second class ribbon and a knights cross on his neck... which is ambitious for a generic field officer.
    The Jaeger class is just a Fallschirmjaeger, which is also well done. The zeltbahn tents are also well done, along with the weaponry and german vehicles. The helmets are late war M42 helmets, which would have been an odd combination with an early war tunic. They have good k98 ammo pouches, but I was disappointed to not see any K43 pouches in the game.
    For vehicles and equipment markings, they just picked unit logos out of a bucket it seems. The anti-tank guns all seem to be the smaller 37mm, which was gone by 1944, and they have the logo of the 12th SS on them.
    US uniforms are quite rough. but alright.
    The story leaves much to be desired, but there are some comical oversights. Such as you liberate the town in Liberate, advancing North, only to have Sherman tanks move through the town to advance south... where you just killed like 100 people. 8/10 imo

    Very nice video man, I'm really glad you showed how well Rebellion have done their research on this game (and how they completely butchered basic things like the US uniforms!). I was really impressed by the attention to detail they had with the bunker interiors and the German military props laying around everywhere, they got correct ammo boxes and shell containers, warm food carriers, water carriers, radios, etc... Also the reason the vehicles, the German infantry uniforms and the aforementioned props look so great is that they were used Photogrammetry on actual items from private and public collections instead of modelling the big assets by hands and scanning cheap Hong-kong/Taiwan uniform reproductions like DICE and Sledgehammer did.
    With that said I wanted to point out:
    9:30 That's not entirely unreasonable because soldiers issued with G43's didn't get many (if at all, in some late war instances) spare magazines in addition to the one on the rifle itself, so him carrying Kar98k pouches for the stripper clips is correct.
    21:16 This is actually a standard issue tent quarter/poncho Zeltbahn, nothing experimental about this.
    29:25 That's an Henschel 33, it's a really nice touch that they depicted something other than the Opel Blitz since the Germans had, like you said, a humongous variety of lorries.
    41:40 Big man's got the Vampyr scope battery on his back, if you look at the gascan closely you can see wires coming out of it.
    44:27 That's the 22cm K532 (f) of Batterie Dollmann on Guernsey, it's still on the island today!

      The submarine mistake is worse than you thought. The dive planes aren't stowed, what you're seeing are separate "fins" where the planes would be if they were stowed. The developers must have looked at a photo of the boat on the surface and didn't quite understand what they were looking at. They must've thought the dive planes were permanently deployed like on the U-Boats and they were just hidden under the water.

    The gun at 45:13 is a Canon de 220L mle 1917 known in german service as the 22cm K532(f)
    U-boat is actually a Type VII you can see the widening of the deck forward of the conning tower where the 8.8cm deck gun should be, also note the side tank protruding out of the hull, having a Alberich tile coating I'd guess that should be U-480 which was a Type VII C, one of the famous wrecks of the channel due to its coating.

    - the fallschirmjaeger’s belt buckle should be Luftwaffe, not a Heer one

And then later in the game you come across 88s so they are modeled and in the game and could have been used.

The graphic image, of a sinking warship beneath the e-boat and the torpedo, was lifted from a famous photograph of the pocket battleship KMS GRAF SPEE, shortly after she was scuttled in the Montevideo Roads (Check out the Wikipedia site for the image). Not quite sure why the Germans would use that image of the ignominious end of one of Nazi Germany's highest profile capital ships to illustrate the result of their own Kriegsmarines exploits, but I guess it's perhaps appropriate, given they did sink that ship themselves!

    Why the mag pouches of the Kar98K for a Gewher 43 user makes sense as the standard doctrine for them is to just charge rounds into the mag using stripper clips rather than switching mags thus it makes sense for them to issue Gewher 43 rifles out to normal rifleman and let them keep their old webbing that fits stripper clips for the Kar98K.
    The truck could be a massive spin on the Citroen T45 heavy truck with just extra axle. That truck was indeed used alot by the Germans to supplement their losses on the Opel Blitz during their invasion of Poland, France and the USSR.
    That rifle you see on the resistance fighter's back at the forest hideout, that's the RSC 1917 also known as "Fusil Automatique Modele 1917". It's supposed to be one of the few semi-automatic rifles to be used on the Western Front during WWI and it did. It worked quite well for the complexity and massive of a joke of mismatched and mediocre weaponry for the French but that rifle worked rather well.
    HOWEVER, it's quite inaccurate for it to be appearing in the French Resistance's hands even. As the rifle wasn't made in massive numbers, just about 86,000 made till the end of WWI and quite alot that wasn't damaged during the Interwars were taken by the Germans when they conquered France thus it slightly made no sense that the Resistance were even using the rifle that's quite hard to maintain without a proper factory making parts and also cumbersome to move around with as it's seriously damn long as a rifle rather than the MAS-36 and even the captured Kar98K. What was even funnier is that the in-game model is the RSC 1918 which wouldn't even make sense for the Resistance to have it as only 4000 of them were made and there's no way that they landed in their hands with the Germans taking everything from Petain's army. If you're talking about Sniper Elite 4 when he's in the desert fighting Rommel then yes, the rifle MIGHT be seen there being used by the Legionnaires or something because the RSC 1918 saw action during the Rif Wars in Morocco. In mainland France? Hardly possible for the Resistance to even get their hands on it.
    The Fallschirmjager that you kill at the lab with the admirals had two error but you just mentioned one. The another error was his webbing. He was definitely carrying a StG-44 as shown on the ground but his webbing was wrong as his ammo pouch isn't a full magazine pouch but the standard Kar98K stripper clip pouches which won't work with the StG-44.

    The G-43 could be reloaded with clips. The normal allocation was only three actual magazines, with extra ammunition to be loaded via clips. It's not impossible someone might not get any magazines other than the one in the rifle, although that would be a problem. Also possible is keeping the magazines issued safe in a more padded location to preserve them and using only clips to reload.
