I think making his cake makes you an awesome wife! Anybody can run to the store and pick up a cake that's already made. You are putting in the effort, the thought in the love.
Baking a cake for someone on their birthday shows more love than going out and buying one. It’s amazing how when you become frugal your life grows richer!! Happy Birthday Paul!!
Happy Birthday, Paul. No, Emmy, you are not a bad wife! Part of the charm of your channel is the mutual adoration you have for one another. It is obvious how much you enjoy each other's company.
I was married for 23 years..every birthday or Christmas, I had to buy my own gift, wrap it and hand it to my then husband for him to give me....there was never a cake unless I made it. Divorced now. My (now as of this past Christmas!!) fiance and my 16 year old son, made me a gluten free cake from a box. Watching them try so hard and laugh even harder...it was the BEST CAKE I have ever had in my life. So, no, you are an amazing wife because where the cake ingredients come from do not matter as long as the act of making one comes from the heart!
Happy Birthday Paul. You are amazing wife. The cake looked delicious. You and Paul always treat each other with kindness and respect. I’m glad you are doing well on your low spend January!! Take care
Absolutely not you are NOT a bad wife! I have two sons and I wish They would have married a woman like you. You are an selfless, loving and attentive to your husband needs. You did everything possible to make sure he was able to retire early. And when you bake his cake you went out of your way to add special ingredients when it could have been so easy for you to just buy him a cake at the bakery. Emme, you are a priceless gem. Happy Birthday Paul you both are a lovely caring couple who support each other.
Happy 39th birthday, Paul! Looks like sweet Emmy made it a special day, despite the no-spend challenge. The cake looked so light and airy; almost like angel food! You really took that box mix to the next level, Emmy! Wouldn't it be delicious with strawberries, as a shortcake? I wonder if some day you might do a video on how to elevate other types of box mixes? That sounds like a lot of fun. And please thank Dixie for her little happy dance at the beginning...she always makes my day!
Hubby,s birthday is the 10th, going to try the boxed cake mix, I have a yellow cake mix. Out of my allowance I bought him $10.00 in scratch off tickets, he won $25.00, after church will buy him a special donut for breakfast and thawing out a steak, baked potato and sweet corn we froze from this past summer crop. No spend January is going good. Excellent video as always.❤️
Just discovered your channel last week and have binge-watched your vids. Really appreciate your joyful encouragement and common sense tips to be happily frugal. You ROCK!
I think my favorite part of this video was your face when Paul was describing the birthday cake you baked him. You were radiating pure joy! 😊. Happy Birthday, Paul!
Tip # 25 for saving your money, if you have a room where you are at and you need extra cash, you can rent out space, it could be a garage, a room, storage building or shed or driveway space.
How bold/confidant to crack those eggs over your recipe and getting out only the egg whites! You have mad skills, Emmy! You and Paul are the perfect compliment to each other ❤😘
I'm on my way to a low spend January. Yesterday I bought a comfy top for ONE DOLLAR at Walmart as well as a pack of 4 rolls of xmas wrapping paper for 49 cents! How could I resist. And to top it off I received a $50 Kroger gift card today,. Your videos are very encouraging to me. Thank you!
wow you did great on the food shopping. I miss Shop Rite, they have always had nice sales. I remember the can can sales even when I was a kid in the 1970s. Thank you so much for the encouragement also. I have been staying home and organizing and I am loving it. Rather then extra shopping. I did go to the Salvation Army the other day and bought a really nice stainless steel cutting knife for .99cents, a really nice serving fork .99cents and 4 beautifully etched wine glasses for $1! I appreciate your videos so much. They are really inspiring me to slow down and appreciate what I already have. As far as the cake goes, I think you did a wonderful job for Paul. I used to make my husband a box cake every Veteran's Day and I know he enjoyed the attention and the time I took to make it. Lastly, I am so glad I found your channel. I think you and Paul are a lovely couple and even via youtube, spending time with you both is very very nice! I have to giggle because when your Dixie Belle was on in the beginning of the video, my Sweetie Belle (yellow Lab) saw her and was staring so intently and wagging her tail at the screen. Have a blessed weekend... and thanks so much to you and Paul for your time! (ps Happy Birthday Paul).... Emmy when is your birthday?- Carol
Corn tip- We live upstate from you on the other side of the Catskills . One of the wonders of summer is fresh sweet corn . There are only two us but we always buy a dozen ears . We eat what we want fresh and then take the rest off the cob and freeze it for winter . We get a nice burst of summer when we use it all winter long .
I have 7 kids so date night can be hard for us because of money and time so we do date night at home! We will cook something fun like potstickers and set up a little table in our room and watch a movie. Sometimes my kids will act as our servers! It’s fun❤️and frugal.
You absolutely not a bad wife!!! I prefer a homemade cake anytime! It comes from the heart❤️ my hubby had knee surgery on Thursday and there was a shop rite across the street but unfortunately I wasn’t able to make it over there to check it out....but next time I’m up that way (Amherst) I’m definately going to check it out!!! No spend January going good so far! 👌 I’m going to make my own homemade chicken wings today for the Bills game!!! & a small pizza.....🍕 we have our Bills flag flying from our front porch & we are ready to go!!! GO BILLS!!!!!! 🙏❤️🙏 happy birthday Paul hope you had a wonderful day!!!🎂🎈🎉
Hope your hubby is feeling better! Prayers for a quick recovery!! We have stayed at the Marriott on Maple Road many times in Amherst! Such a small world lol! GO BILLS!!
I would prefer a home baked cake filled with love, than a store baught🎂. My hubby makes breakfast and dinner on my birthday I find it the most loving gift😍. Not have to cook and not have to dress-up and wait for hours for food that is ofthen not as tasty as you hope... 🙃
Love that pink mixer! That cake docorin' sure sounds SO good! GREAT savings! Amazing deals! Unbelievable! I hadn't had a TV in years and years. My brother left me one. I checked out and watched everything the library had that interested me in the least, and then sold the TV. 😃 Love you guys! ❤
No bad wife ! You made a cake for your hubby - and - you did it with love! That's a good wife! :) Prov 31 wife! :) Blessings from Dawn @ Rich & Dawn in MN :)
There is no shame in baking a cake from a box for your husbands birthday! : ). I think its a very sweet gesture. You don't worry about buying organic or not it appears. We use to be pretty strict about it but with prices skyrocketing we haven't been doing that as much. Even with apples. Plus you must not have weight problems because you don't see to care about the carbs you eat. I am not saying that in a negative way. I am just making a point that not all. people can eat the same way because of weight gain or dietary restrictions. Anyway, I just found you and really appreciate the videos you do.
The cake looks very delicious....such a nice treat and on budget. Happy Birthday to your husband he is so handsome with a beautiful smile. New subscriber here. Take care and Stay safe. From Debbie and my precious silly chihuahua companion Dexter-Dog living in S. California.🙋🐾🏄💕🙏🙏😷😷🏥🏥🇺🇸🌴🌴🌲
Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Paul, Happy Birthday 🎊🎂🎁 to you!!!!! I feel you Paul, who doesn’t like a bargain (at the Christmas Tree Shoppe).
Aww,emmy, youre not a bad wife for using what you had on hand.if you hadnt, that box mix would likely go bad, dusty, unused.it is perfectly fine to take a shortcut once in a while.you dont eat processed foods,in general.this will not harm you,or paul.
Try this one some time...take a white cake mix and make like you just did. When it comes out of the oven, poke holes in it using the end of a wooden spoon. Cover with crushed berries of your choice. Frost with slightly sweetened whipped cream. This is one of our favorites for summer barbecues!
I am inspired to try and be more frugal. Tfs. I have so much and don't need to buy so many things on a regular basis. We want to start making payments towards the principal on our mortgage. Happy Belated Bday to Paul!
there is four tablespoons in a quarter cup. so Two tablespoons. also spending money doesn't equal love, time does. so your showing your love buy making him his cake!
My hubby and I are going great on our low spend as well! So far we have spent $31 on groceries. BTW, the cake looks so light and airy. Yummy! You aren’t a bad wife for the box mix. My hubby’s birthday was on Thanksgiving day, and he didn’t get anything special for his big day. He was very good with that though. He said spending time, and having a big meal with our family was blessing enough. Who needs a birthday cake after having a turkey dinner with all the trimming plus four different kinds of pie to choose from for dessert?
If you're a bad wife for using a cakemix then I'm a bad mam. In my family making a cake is a token of love because you put love and effort in it. My kids love a cheesecakemix cake. We decorated it with fondant decortion like piraten map or a knights shield. The other kid helps, a lot of fun and a litle secret for the birthday boy. So win win. We had birthday 1 27th of december. Other one still to come january 24th. Trying to make minecraft decorations, wish us luck. Our no spend january is going well, thanks for the tips. It also Works in lockdown Netherlands!!!
Emmy and Paul, I love your channel. I was born in upstate NY in Plattsburgh but my family moved when I was less than a year old. My parents took me back thru NY when I was 16 years old to see where I was born and then we went up into Canada which is only about 22 miles away. I don't know why you would think that you would be a bad wife for not buying a cake for Paul. That is what our consumer driven society would want us to buy into but you put much love into making Paul's cake!
I am doing great so far on the no spend, low spend on groceries this month and getting creative in my cooking. Little Dixie Belle is so cute trying to get into her harness all by herself. Happy Birthday Paul !! Emmy, I just love your videos and shopping tips.
No your a wonderful wife. Paul will enjoy his birthday cake im sure it will be delicious. I always use box cake mixes. I think the cofee and the river trip would be so nice . i love looking at scenery and it passes time and enjoy each others company. Enjoy ..
Down here in SC (coast), I don't see those great prices even at WalMart. My son does my grocery shopping between WalMart and Publix and I've just reminded him to watch the prices. Last week he paid $10 for two organic tomatoes and when I cut the second one open, the seeds were sprouting on the inside. He also bought my jar of Almond Butter for another $10.00, when it's $6.97 in WalMart. I so miss ShopRite, PathMark, Foodtown and anything else we had up in Jersey. Here we have Krogers, Food Lion (expensive), and Bi-Lo (super-expensive and sometimes not great quality) and Publix (quality, but also expensive). People always say it must be so cheap to live here, but it all balances out. Keep inspiring me!
@@FrugalMoneySaver We do have an Aldi, but it's pretty small compared to the other stores. They do have the best pork chops around (they taste like chops and not pressed meat, like the others). I get there when I can. They also have better produce than WalMart. Publix is the best for produce, but you pay, pay, pay.
We must be neighbors I live in NY, Hudson valley area near the Hudson River. I love the views. Happy birthday Paul! Emmy I got that .19 cent toothpaste as well this week- a steal! Have a great weekend.
Love your channel. Low and no spend so far for me zero!!!!!! Yay you make it seem so much easier to do thank you . Belated happy birthday Paul🥳 the cake looked yummy, your wife is clever. xxx
You are right there are plenty of free things to do. I made my children a family history book for Christmas and I found out the Hudson River was named after one of my great-grandfathers
Hello! Emmy and Paul. I’m doing so well with my no spend/low spend January too! This is the first time that I am doing it also. Thank you for the support, encouragement and great ideas. Happy belated birthday to Paul. 🎂🎉☀️
You might consider Grocery Sales Cycles in your pantry planning if you haven't already: January is National Oatmeal Month; February is National Canned Goods Month, and so on... I learned about these six-week cycles only a couple of years ago, but I now consider them as I'm stocking my pantry. Your cake was lovely! I can't commit to a "no-spend" because you never know what kind of emergency will come up, but the "low spend" is a great way to remind us to be mindful as we use our resources.
Hope you had a real good birthday Paul. My husband doesn't get a birthday cake but we freeze a quarter of the Christmas cake for him to have for his birthday in February. He just loves rich fruit cake and is the only one who eats it. We have been doing this for years. We are doing well on our low spend January as well. As we are now on lockdown number 3 and only allowed out for essential food or medical reasons there is very little temptation as all non essential shops etc are closed. Sending you love and blessings.
I did not do well with no spend January. On the first of the month we had to take our dog to the ER. So she has cancer and I found great meds that I hope helps her. I will try no spend February. 🤗
Happy Birthday Paul 🎂🥳 We have 2 of our kids and our granddaughters birthday this month! I’m making it essential,😀 Emmy, I must be a bad wife too. We have been married 50 yrs in April and I always make box cake! We are not bad at all! And the last time I made a cake I used milk and butter also. Does make a difference! Bless you both and enjoy Paul’s b’day. French toast is very good made with the egg nog. 🙏💕
It seems like it was a wonderful celebration. I am learning not to buy something every time an idea pops into my head. My months go from the fifteenth to the fifteenth so I will only have a half month, but I can start a new month of the same next Friday.
That is a very nice halter for miss Dixie.that is exactly what I called my husband, Pauly.you really scored at the grocery store..I like Ken's creamy Italian too.
The cheapest store for me used to be Pathmark but unfortunately they went out of business. My choices are Acme, Shop-Rite, Giant, Aldi and Trader Joe’s Acme is our most abundant and also the most expensive. I don’t know about your area but the Acmes around me don’t all carry the same thing. There are four Acmes around me and there are things you can get in one store that the others don’t carry. Giant has the biggest selection of produce but not alway the freshest and their meats are extensive. Acme has better prices on meat, produce ok but everything else is more expensive. My best prices are at Aldi and Trader Joe’s but they are the furthest away. At least in Delaware. Also Happy Birthday Paul.
Great video, thank you. Happy new year, happy birthday, I'm low spend too for the first time, I am learning that shopping should NOT be a form of entertainment.
You're not a bad wife. I miss seeing the Hudson River. We've been walking a lot more. Up here in Central NY in sale the canned vegetables are 50 cents a can. How I miss the Shoprite can can sale. My local store Price Chopper has something similar. Happy Birthday Paul🎉🎊🎂.
The cake looks So good!! We always made our kids birthday and my and my husbands birthday cakes when the kids were growing up. They were happy! Now my daughter gets me a cookie 🍪 cake or a marble slab ice cream cake 🎂 We spent $11.39 for a loaf of bread, 2- dozen eggs, 🥚 $0.69 ea. 1-gallon 🥛 , 1- 10 lbs. potatoes $1.99, 2- lbs of butter 🧈 $1.68 ea. I couldn’t pass that up, only thing we used so was about 6 slices of bread and some milk, out of what I bought for the week of January 1-7. I still have basically everything left. Our only phone charger broke last night, and I needed Mucinex, my husband needed tea. We were SAVED BY a $50 GIFT 💝 💳 card To WALMART we got in the mail this week, my husband EARNED from getting his yearly check up last November. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 SO NO money spent there! Y’all doing Good Emmy and Paul!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Yay Emmy and Paul! Okay, I have learned to make sure I have pen and paper when I watch you so I can write down all your tips. So, thanks for showing us how to kick a cake mix up (if that makes you a bad wife welcome to my club) and for the Kens Caesar Salad dressing tip as well. Happy Birthday Paul!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy Birthday Paul. The doing things ourselves, that homey feeling, the going for a ride somewhere mean more to people because we are doing things together and we value the occasion not the commercial flamboyance.
Just watched your Philli cheese steak sandwich video - I am Australian so I thought you would use Philli cream cheese, duh, now I understand this sandwich! Thanks, and the rolls look fantastic, well done.
Day 9 of January and I wish I could say I've been having success with the low spend/no spend but....was having trouble with my vision so needed updated rx..$83 was my responsibility for such though I am most grateful for vision insurance. Also was having a dental issue and had a large cash output that insurance didn't cover. Other than those two things I've not spent a dime. I keep reminding myself of the things I have here at home to use up before bringing anything new in. A few friends are giggling at me for some of the concoctions I'm coming up with but oh well.
Those are both extreme necessities! Teeth and eyes are so important! You did not spend frivolously at all! You are doing great Lorrie! Thanks for sharing!
Love your videos and no you are not a bad wife at all! The white cake was wonderful! So far on this low spend month i have done pretty well. I have had to purchase milk and produce, but have not purchased anything else. That is good! I am doing a lot of organizing and purging and its really starting to show! Till next time, God Bless!
I think making his cake makes you an awesome wife! Anybody can run to the store and pick up a cake that's already made. You are putting in the effort, the thought in the love.
Yes, thanks so much Jennifer!
Baking a cake for someone on their birthday shows more love than going out and buying one.

Tip # 25 for saving your money, if you have a room where you are at and you need extra cash, you can rent out space, it could be a garage, a room, storage building or shed or driveway space.
You need to make sure you follow your city guidelines for renting out a room as well as extra insurance costs and liability.

Love that he had a buffet of pies...so sweet! Sounds like you are doing great on our challenge! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for the kind words! I love fondant lol! Please stay safe and well!
It was made with love. Happy birthday
You know it Sheryl! Thank you!!
Barbara you said it perfectly...a consumer driven society! Thank you so much for the great comment!
Happy belated birthday Paul from Ireland, love your channel Emmy x
Thanks so much Charlotte! 😊
I am doing great so far on the no spend, low spend on groceries this month and getting creative in my cooking. Little Dixie Belle is so cute trying to get into her harness all by herself. Happy Birthday Paul !! Emmy, I just love your videos and shopping tips.
Thank you so much Sandra! Always great to have you here!
Forgot to mention
Happy birthday Paul xx 🎂🎂🎂🎂
Thanks so much Paula!
Xx
OMG the guitar pedals. Little trip down memory lane...
LOL! Paul loves to Play for sure!
Looked delicious! I make cakes for everyone's birthday and sometimes it's a boxed sometimes scratch. You did well.
Thank so much!
No your a wonderful wife. Paul will enjoy his birthday cake im sure it will be delicious. I always use box cake mixes. I think the cofee and the river trip would be so nice . i love looking at scenery and it passes time and enjoy each others company. Enjoy ..
Yes! Thank you! Looks like another no spend birthday this year for him too LOL! I'll make it special though!
I know people love Aldi...do you have one close by? I've only been one time but people say their prices are great!
Stop saying am i a bad wife you are saving money and being inventive.
Absolutely right Rose...thanks!
We must be neighbors I live in NY, Hudson valley area near the Hudson River. I love the views. Happy birthday Paul! Emmy I got that .19 cent toothpaste as well this week- a steal!
Have a great weekend.
Oh how fun maybe we are! If you ever see me out and about Margaret make sure to say hello lol!! Thanks for watching!
Love your channel. Low and no spend so far for me zero!!!!!! Yay you make it seem so much easier to do thank you . Belated happy birthday Paul🥳 the cake looked yummy, your wife is clever. xxx
YAY! You are doing so great Jeanne! Thanks so much!
You are right there are plenty of free things to do. I made my children a family history book for Christmas and I found out the Hudson River was named after one of my great-grandfathers
That is awesome Granny! How neat is that! Henry Hudson was related to you!!
Happy Birthday Paul. Enjoy your yummy cake. Blessings to you. Emmy you make me smile every time.
Oh Sarah that makes us so happy you enjoy our videos! Thank you!
I use boxed cake mixes all the time. My kids and hubby pick their favorite and I too doctor them up!
Great idea!!
Hello! Emmy and Paul. I’m doing so well with my no spend/low spend January too! This is the first time that I am doing it also. Thank you for the support, encouragement and great ideas. Happy belated birthday to Paul. 🎂🎉☀️
Thank you so much Jeannette! Happy to hear you are doing so well! YAY!
Paul didn't look upset over his cake. If he likes it pat yourself on the back.:) Looked yummy to me!
Yes, he loved it...thanks!
Yes Kimberly shopping by the yearly cycle saves so much money! Thanks for sharing and watching!
It makes you a great wife🥳happy birthday Paul!
Thank you so much Rachel!
Great Teamwork Paul and Emmy! You two are too cute! 🏆👍Love your Frugal entertainment ideas! ❤
....Oh.....and that cake and frosting.......looked super delish! Yum! 🤤👍
Glad you enjoyed it Momma Bear! Thanks for watching!
Thanks!
We live miles from the Hudson as well and we often go down and watch the sunset
Happy birthday Paul!!
Thanks so much Dana! Yes, the Hudson Valley is a beautiful area!
Happy birthday Paul, my best wishes for a truly blessed year. You and Emmy are such a blessing to me, thank you. Lots of love. 💕
Thank you so much Debbie!! Lots of love back!
What a great idea to have the Christmas cake! Please stay safe and well Chris! Thanks so much for watching!
I did not do well with no spend January. On the first of the month we had to take our dog to the ER. So she has cancer and I found great meds that I hope helps her. I will try no spend February. 🤗
Oh no I am so sorry to hear about your dog! I hope the meds help her as well Janeen!
And tell Paul to Have a very Happy Birthday!
Thanks so much Pamela!
ABSOLUTELY! Love that! Enjoy Diane!
It seems like it was a wonderful celebration. I am learning not to buy something every time an idea pops into my head. My months go from the fifteenth to the fifteenth so I will only have a half month, but I can start a new month of the same next Friday.
You can save a lot in a half month even! Thanks for watching Linda!
That is a very nice halter for miss Dixie.that is exactly what I called my husband, Pauly.you really scored at the grocery store..I like Ken's creamy Italian too.
Thanks so much Patty!
Yes stores vary what they carry! Thanks so. much for watching!
Great video, thank you. Happy new year, happy birthday, I'm low spend too for the first time, I am learning that shopping should NOT be a form of entertainment.
So true Helen! We just have to hang in there...another 22 days to go! We got this! Thanks so much for watching!
Happy Birthday to your hubby, Paul!!
Thanks so much Jan!!
A homemade birthday cake made with love is the best!!🥰🎉💞
It really is! Thank you Lesley!
You can chop onions and freeze them. The cake looks yummy.
Great tip!
Happy birthday Paul. I had a couple things jump in my grocery cart this week but still came in $14 under budget. Another great video
YAY! Lisa $14 under is great! Thanks so much!
Butter wrapper for the win! Lol I’m doing that now too! Happy birthday Paul! Also, Emmy, your nails have looked so pretty!
Thank you!! 😁 I'm learning to do my nails better and better...lol!
You are for sure not a bad wife. It’s a cake made the most important ingredient...love 💜 Happy Belated Birthday 🥳 Paul
Thanks so much!!
Dixie is darling! Happy Birthday Paul!!! Try egg nog french toast, it is wonderful :-).
Oh goodness eggnog French toast sounds amazing! Thanks!
Thanks so much Lisa! The Hudson River was lovely but man it was cold lol!
@@FrugalMoneySaver it was mighty cold in the Syracuse area to.
We were SAVED BY a $50 GIFT 💝
💳 card To WALMART we got in the mail this week, my husband EARNED from getting his yearly check up last November. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 SO NO money spent there! Y’all doing Good
Emmy and Paul!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
You are doing great too Irene! Can't believe your eggs are .69 and butter $1.68! GREAT! Thanks for sharing!
Happy Birthday 🎂🎈 Paul!! My Birthday 🎂 is this month too, the 25th
Thanks so much Irene! Happy early birthday!
You are definitely not a bad wife ! You are a great wife with a great husband is understanding!😍❤️
Thank you so much Debbie! Appreciate you being here!
Yay Emmy and Paul! Okay, I have learned to make sure I have pen and paper when I watch you so I can write down all your tips. So, thanks for showing us how to kick a cake mix up (if that makes you a bad wife welcome to my club)
and for the Kens Caesar Salad dressing tip as well. Happy Birthday Paul!!!!!!!!!!!!
YAY! Thanks so much for the encouraging comment Sandra!
Happy Birthday Paul. The doing things ourselves, that homey feeling, the going for a ride somewhere mean more to people because we are doing things together and we value the occasion not the commercial flamboyance.
Absolutely Bessie! Exactly what we are trying to capture! Thank you!
Beautiful area! Happy Birthday Paul! Thanks for entertaining us !!!
Thanks for watching Robin!
Just watched your Philli cheese steak sandwich video - I am Australian so I thought you would use Philli cream cheese, duh, now I understand this sandwich! Thanks, and the rolls look fantastic, well done.
Lol that makes sense actually though! Thanks so much for watching!
Happy birthday Paul. The cake looked delicious!
Thanks so much!
The cake looks so delicious Emmy!!! Great job!!! Happy Birthday Paul!!!
Thanks so much Kim! 😊
You are doing so well!! Gail that is awesome! God bless you too! Thank you!
I think the thought & care was very nice. Thats what matters!
Thanks Kelli! We agree!!
My birthday is today also! Happy Birthday to Paul, he's a lucky man.
HAPPY BLESSED BIRTHDAY!!!
Good job! And to chocolate cake i add a handful of chocolate chips to the batter 👍
Oh that sounds good too Alli!
I love your positive attitude.
Thanks so very much Frances!
