5o Seminario - Prof. Dr. Airton Deppman - Fractal Aspects of the COVID-19 in a Brazilian city

The pandemic spread of the COVID-19 evidenced fractal aspects of human life in urban centres that were already observed by other socioeconomic parameters. The existence of fractal dynamics in the epidemic dynamics is explored by a new model, that is used to analyse data from a city in the São Paulo metropolitan area. With the data, it is possible to check the consistency of the fractal model, compare its capabilities to analyse the epidemic data with that from the usual SIR model, and extract new information about the epidemic spread in the city, as, for instance, the effects of social-distancing. The model allows for optimizing the social-distancing measures, restricted in time and space to ensure the contamination of the spread with minimal socio-economic impact.
