  • The Taliban Takedown Tanto knife from Tops is battle prepared and can be carried in multiple ways. This is a knife designed with one sole purpose in mind. #topsknives #tantoknife #combatknife

The ironic thing is, the common thing with TOPS always used to be how they had great knives but terrible sheaths. I checked some older models on their site and see they've updated the sheaths finally (specifically the Bootlegger models). So cool that they've turned the weak point with the sheaths around!

6:10 For me that depends. I prefer slowly walking backwards with my off hand in front of my main hand, so I can deflect and grab. And with my main hand sort of semi in front of my chest, so I don't get my main hand tangled / grabbed and have it out of the way / have my vital organs protected instead of taking an offensive stance. I can also switch stances while slowly backing up and point the pointy end of the thing to where strikes / grabs come in; instead of attacking myself. I prefer to be entirely defensive for personal reasons, at some point the attacker will stop trying or collapse; in the best case scenario. Mind you that I would, of course, also try to get away first, and only if that's not possible I would have to become a hedgehog.
But then again, you gotta use what works best for you, but maybe I could give some inspiration for a sort of wider view / broader picture. So for me it's ice pick and defending. For me it is more about protecting myself and less about trying to end the threat with risky offensive maneuvers.

I got large hands, but thin hands, so I never had any problems holding small knives myself personally.
I sometimes have problems finding the right sized gloves though. lol
Not much out there that fits well enough in finger length + palm fatness (sorry, I ran out of words).

If they madd it in a standard grind i might be more into it but its still pretty cool. Chisel grind is more something for woodcraft in my toolbox. Oh btw not all knife fighting systems are weapon hand forward. A whole lot use the left hand as a shield especially with a jacket wrapped around it. Think about it, if the other guy has a blade too & he cuts your weapon hand &/or arm then what? Kali/Arnis or Mexican Bowie knife fighting would both be a good example.

  • @Leftyotism

    Great knife for fighting! 🥰
How about the TOPS Mountain Spike though?
Not to compare these two, but I am thinking about getting that Mountain Spike as a longer beater. Got the FDX 66 as a short beater (utility) and I personally love that little devil. None of those two I am considering for self defense by the way, just regular stuff I don't want to use my good folder for, which would take much longer to fix and also more mental pain.
Unfortunately hardly anyone reviews the FDX 66, and that saddens me greatly. Maybe people don't like it as much because it's not made for fighting and fairly thin for a TOPS knife. It's my perfect back up / beater fixed though, can't even notice it next to the belt buckle it's so compact. And no, it's a literal backup / beater and not something to work on something for extended periods of time. And trying to fight with it ... well, good friggin luck haha.
Me being German I never carry a knife for self defense by the way, just to let you know where I'm coming from. Pun not intended. But I will admit that I would edc a gun if I was living in the US of A and at least own several if I had to live there. Here I feel very secure, and it is insanely safe. That being said I only take out knives for utility. Where I live there is no robbing and house invasions are practically unheard of here. Et cetera perge perge.

7:46 That looks a lot like offensive trying to kill type of movements. But I guess in the USA if someone is trying to kill you, or just trying to beat you, then you trying to kill them counts as defense.
Could get a little tricky in court I imagine, if someone was going at you with fists and you start stabbing them in the throat out of nowhere.
And sorry for pulling legs sometimes!

Hello my friend! I’m sure it’s rocksolid blade as I have seen it before. I’m not the biggest fan of folding knives just because I don’t like moving parts but that’s just me. I would much rather have a fixed blade for self-defense and a folding knife for work.
