Great review! I've been researching day and night for the last week for a great EDC! I don't want a folder. I've been searching through every top brand you can imagine! I just couldn't make up my mind! Some where a little to big, small, heavy, and the sheath makes or breaks a knife for me! This desert son though, just might be my go to!! Thank you very much!👍🏻👍🏻
That knife Looks good- here in Cali I can carry a huge cold steel espada xl folder concealed but not a small fixed blade like that! I’d love to see you review that big folder- I know folders aren’t your preference carry, and I put off getting it for years- but once you snap it open with that bank vault lock and 7 1/2 inch blade- it’s so clear what kind of a longer range weapon it really is! Gripping it at the end of the handle with the securing finger choil, you have about a foot of reach ahead of your grip- in a legal folder.
Check out TKell knives. He specializes in these smallish “get off me “ blades. Awesome designs, tough as nails, USA made. Tim Kell is a very cool guy, Marine veteran as well.
I just started to edc the Cold Steel Large Voyager Vaquero for both utility and self defence. It's been out of production since at least 2012 but I was lucky enough to snag one. It's a chunky boy but I carry it IWB slightly canted at 1 o clock and it's quite comfy that way. I'm a big tracker fan and often times I do EDC a T4, so I do know how useful these curvy blades can be for daily tasks, but I gotta admit that the kukri curve is way more utilitarian and slicy compared to the tracker shape, especially with a thin stock. I have no doubt I'd love this one, I'm just a little skeptical about the thickness and weight for such a small knife for EDC, because unless you wanna use it a woods knife as well they are probably a bit unnecessary. By the way you should totally try the Vaquero if you haven't, I think you'd love it if you like the kukri shape.
It's funny how we are all so different in our particular tastes. I'm a huge TOPS fan, and that knife has been on my radar for years. For the most part, I like it. The only thing that has stopped me from purchasing one is the design element that you like...the recurve blade. Thanks for the vid. 👍
Six years ago when I got into knives the first knife I got was the C.U.T. 4.0. It came with a Tops catalog. Black eagle strike team, Desert son, Roughneck, Felony stop are on my list. Street scalpel 2.0 is the favorite of my Tops knives. I've used Grim Ripper as a demolition tool repeatedly and I couldn't bend the bottleneck At All.
Nice looking knife for sure. I like the deep recurve. Easy to Sharpen with the bottom of your coffee mug. Luckily in my state, you can carry any blade you like. But I still like these sweet little helper knives.
Less likely to cut fingers with a solid tang than a folding especially when closing. With a handle sticking out it would be somewhat easy for someone to grab it.❤
Received one yesterday. Very Very small. The Esee 3 is a much better choice for a multitude of tasks. This knife is a whittler. It works, it's stout but blade and scales are very tiny. It feels better in my hand if I choke up on it.. Looks good, built tuff, but not so practical.
Doesnt really matter if its a fixed blade or folder, cheap or expensive as long as you can pull it fast & use it w/o it failing. After that its players choice.
I'be buyed after my first Scout Course (not in the USA) a TB Scout in '05.. no '04 i think. For me, it was like a 'you a part of...' (Never heard of TOPS before. And here in mid-EU these Blades are very expensive. ESSE also. For me, it isn't worth .. at the moment 156.-€. I become a M390 Blade for lesser money today ^^) (Today, i would buy a R2 Scout in Elmax from FK - if i think i need a 'Scout' Knife) But the desert son is a way more pretty blade as the Scout, i think. And for the 'Apache Way' it would be also ok!
Great looking knife Bro!! I own 4 sub 3" fixies,..ESSE Izula in s35vn with custom scales from Knife Connection. Second is ESEE Xancudo, third is Spyderco Enuf in leaf shape blade work 2.7"blade now discontinued for some reason And lastly, CKRT. Minimalist in tanto blade I love them all🗡🗡 Great video,...I'm definitely going to check out the Desert Sun next🗡
It just depends on what you use them for. I think what Joe does is entertaining, but I wouldn’t consider it a realistic knife test. I do like to see the amount of torture a blade can take but hardly any survives his testing. That’s the one thing about his channel I don’t like and that is, a lot of decent blades get discredited in the minds of other people.
@@411Outdoors I understand what you're saying, and I agree that his tests are extreme and impractical. With that being said, my concern is how consistent their failures were, considering their premium pricing. He's tested blades under $50 that lasted far better. I see him as more of an extreme exposure to some of these brands. BTW...I bought the JXE JXO throwing knife kit too. They've been great so far.
£166.95 here in the UK. I guess you get what you pay for!! I have also seen something very similar from a supposed Japanese company but can’t remember the name, having a senior moment!

Great review covered all the points I was NEEDING to understand!
Thx
Great video thank you for sharing!
What a joy and privilege!🙂👍 This is a great EDC💥

A large folder is a great idea!
@@411Outdoorscheck out the Large Vaquero if you wanna try a beefy but still carriable combat folder. It can't be beat imo.

That looks like a great knife to wear around town
Definitely 🙂👍
Awesome little blade . You should check out the silent hero mini as well.
Sweet blade! Love it
This is similar in concept to the Esee Three. Small compact, comfortable to carry.

Can you bring out all ths tops, maybe even all the mini fixed blades?. Maybe show them side by side and rank them?
a really well thought of design how does it throw
Not the great thrower-being so short but you can half spin the heck out of it

Normally, I don't like tops, but this one is a win in my book.
How do you find out what the law is in your state for carrying knifes?
Do a basic google search. “Knife laws by state”
Id like to see a pushoff ledge for sure. Thank you as always
Tengo el clon del Alaska Harpoon y es espectacular, el original debe ser de otro planeta
I love to see this compared to the el pionero tops has

Definitely could be a little bit bigger for sure. Would actually love a full size of this particular blade design.

That’s the one thing I worry about with folders. Not all of them obviously I know there’s some very solid ones out there.
How do I get my hand on one of those, gomoistic?
Amazon carries thiese I do believe e

Like a minimum op7
I like all your videos and reviews. However, this is not the knife for me
I watch this channel called JOEX and he stress tests knives. TOPS break very easily and are over priced. The knives look great, but suck.
