    This is a splendid little railway. Glad to see that station getting a run out and you’ve used the space really well. The industrial structure to hide the exit is one of the most original and best things I’ve seen in a while! Well done mate 😉
    As for the second layout, what a great way to reuse a discarded piece of furniture! 🤓 💡
    Superb video again 👍🍀🍻

    I love Kato. I bought an oval of track which I extended with some extra straights and I run an American diesel with six coal transporters or seven coaches. My grandson ,who is five, can set up the track which he cannot do yet with Hornby and the control wires fit under the track in such a clever way. To say that the locomotives run superbly is an understatement. After a meal we can put up on the dining table, play for an hour and tear down in five minutes in safety. It is more expensive but you get lasting quality and a far better experience than the British outline train sets. That said I wish I still had my Hornby 3-rail set of The Duchess of Montrose that was my first model railway. Thinking about it, the 3-rail and the Kato track share some similarities. On Christmas day Ted and I will be playing trains and I hope many of you will be doing the same. This is my favourite source of model train films. Thank you.

      Very kind of you thanks. That's exactly how Kato intended their products to be used, due to space restraints in Japanese homes. I can get a wonderful running loco with Kato for £40 but need to spend twice that to get a similar running UK loco. Their rolling stock is also very cheap, especially from train trax

    Agreed about your Kato rolling stock. I had bought several Japanese prototype N scale models from Kato and other Japanese brands (Greenmax and Tomix for the motorized rolling stock outside Kato) and there is ZERO comparison possible to N scale in Europe : smooth running, nice looking, zero problems (I already had to deal with two N scale locomotives with faulty motors, none of them Japanese : A Sudexpress Euro 4000, non runner out of the box, replaced, and a EFE rail class 17 with a motor that tends to seize, no answer yet from the retailer), and correct price. And, in my US locomotives, Kato is far over the other brands in quality/price, period.
    As for your Inglenook, great classics always live. For the exit towards the fiddle yard on my projected small OO layout, I had thought of using a canal overpass to do something different than a simple tunnel mouth or road/railway bridge. You can pick my idea if you want !

    @bobprew9373 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I love inglenooks - so much action in so little space. If you want a change of scene don't fasten down your buildings. Then you can swap them and the rolling stock to produce British/Continental/American (and others) layouts on the same board. Your spare drawers could house the alternative stock and buildings. Make sure your sidings can handle the longer continental and American wagons.
    Fascinating content as always. Thank you.

    Thanks for this little video. I often watch anyway, but it has helped my think about my inglenook. It's been on the go for 8 years and is still just a baseboard. A chap on Facebook kindly did some track plans for me to get me started, however I got hung up over it as I'm really overthinking the design and it's theme.
    I love this, it's a simple straightforward layout, utilising what you have and I think I might well do the same.

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was the same but have been completely inspired by the simple inglenook. Just two points but endless shunting possibilities especially if you put in a third passenger siding. Even two sidings has a surprising amount of fun. I would say plonk some buildings down , get a backscene on and have some fun.

    • @BAProductions15C
      @BAProductions15C ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BudgetModelRailways Glad I've been a help in return! No you are right. I just need to shove a simple backdrop down, some buildings and a simple track plan.
      It's dead easy to overcomplicate matters. I was aiming for 1970's London based on the North London line, so many scenic ideas at play with a small board and I just put myself off. Will make it a bit more ambiguous but fun, exactly the right tonic!

  • @edgein7892
    @edgein7892 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Nice shunting.
    Kato and also Tomytec have an interesting range of models and although they lack European style buffers these can simply be added later.
    Also no issues with scale since it's the same as in the UK.

    Lovely as always! I am especially intrigued by the second layout with the integrated fiddle yard. You've placed the typical Inglenook head-shunt off into the fiddle yard, AND how it fits together in drawers, both of which I quite like! Blessings to All!! 😌💜 (PS: my spouse is home from the hospital and is recovering nicely 💚💙💜)

    This is a great layout. I'm in the process of building a small layout based on the Kato pocket line series myself. I'm using the compact track packs as well as the tram and the goods train that you showed there. You are right that it is the cheapest way to get into n scale. It's also even cheaper if you buy direct from Japan even with postage included. (I'm in Australia so maybe postage is cheaper for me)

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  ปีที่แล้ว

      The issue in the UK is extra import tax and postage fees which they add on here, £15+ on each consignment. I have a major Kato project planned

    Big fan of the Inglenook, and the Kato pocket lines! I got the same 3-car pack, but then I "Americanized" the locomotive to make it similar to a GE-44 Tonner. I don't normally go around promoting my own stuff..but the similarities are uncanny here ... so thought I would share my Inglenook with Kato Pocketline switcher. th-cam.com/video/Cu6eTIytg2c/w-d-xo.html (I used a local-to-me pipe making facility for my scenery. the whole thing is 23in x 32in )

    Leaning more and more towards doing on of these inglenook type layouts, just because of space. Your upcoming series will be useful to see. Nice layouts. Is the wiring complicated, assuming these Katos are not DCC units.
