    Such a respectful representation of the Indian food. You were trying to pronounce everything right, not making fun, not trying to make it look exotic or dirty and you did the research. I wish every other youtube would learn from this and respect other cultures.

    I am not Indian but I lived in a community with lots of Indian people in Malden, MA. My neighbor is from Kerala and she taught me how to make many delicious foods from her state and I showed her some recipes from my country as well. My favorites are sambar with idly, dosa, garlic gravy, and okra fry. I really enjoyed our friendship. She and her family went home for a wedding and couldn't get back into the US. I never heard from them again. :-(

    Hi guys, Nice to see the reactions really.. just for your info... we eat with right hands and use left occasionally for holding glass or plate etc... food intake only the right hand is used.... because the left is used for washing ... i mean when u go to the toilets. so since ancient Vedic times we only use right hand for food and for offering , when we hand over things to other... all done by right hand. Thank you..

    Dosa is fermented lentil rice batter so it's light it's roasted with oil to make it slightly heavy pancake like. But since it's thin it doesn't feel that heavy but for the potato mash spiced filling. I remember having a South African dish of maize with potato mash and stir fried vegetables. Although the flour here is rice and lentils soaked overnight, it's light and fluffy. The tempering is to add spice to the sambhar, the potato mash and the dips sauces. It's the energy food..besides PPL have steamed idlis with sambhar and the dosa just completes the rich breakfast theme..we pack more punch in less courses. We have max three course with starters and desserts are not normally eaten..Hope you tried the semolina pudding called kesari bath ..It's the real heavy one

    My most favorite Dosas, yum!

  • @csgollum
    @csgollum 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    "South Indian food for breakfast is the best!" No question. Having lived in both the north and the south, I can confirm this. My favourite - idlis and vada (OR) pongal and vada, although I could do with a dosa too at a pinch. For lunch and dinner though I could go with food from either part of the country.
    Oh, and it's traditional to only eat with one hand... that way you have your other hand free to serve yourself, when needed, without having to dirty the ladle/spoon in the serving bowl.
    Also, uthappam can be of different varieties - plain, sprinkled with onions or with vegetables (like the one you had). Dosas are usually plain, ghee, crispy (aka paper), onion, masala (so to speak, it's usually potatoes and onions in the masala), etc. Home-made dosas are usually smaller because of the typical size of the pans at home.
    Over the years, I think I've tried all types of North Indian dishes, but my preference would be for fried okra ("Bhindi ki subzi"), palak paneer with roti (which I prefer over naan) and a glass of lassi.
