John, Central Coast California. Thanks for the great info! Checking the tides to go for a trial run in preparation for a camping trip where mussels are on the menu.
Thanks for the video I agree about how satisfying it is to fish and gather foods from the wild; brings us back to how people lived for centuries I'm Miri from Northern corner of the California coast Crescent City
I trust you. I've looked at a couple of these on cleaning mussels, but no one said anything about purging, and I just assumed you should. That alone was the reason lol
So that's how you deal with the foot threads of the mussels, that's helpful. I have recently been looking around at various videos to try to farm mussels. From Japan, not my real name, but from Nekohime
Thanks so much for sharing this helpful info! We're from Southwest New Hampshire, so landlocked 😆, but we're going to do some homeschool activities on our short but beautiful coastline & I'm itching to harvest some fresh mussels. We've done periwinkles before because they're invasive everywhere in the US so there's no limit but man is it a lot of work to get tiny pieces of meat out of all of those little shells 😆. I think mussels are a better use of our time. Thanks again! ✌ Great quality video!
I never had west coast so I'm not sure but if I had to guess, I'd say they should taste different because they feed in different bodies of water. I've had the big green New Zealand mussels but I prefer these local smaller black ones.
@@TheSimpsonTwins_ is this Ricky or Tony? Lol if this is Ricky, I love your tik tok videos. I'm in Muskegon. If you come to Muskegon, my dad is a fisherman and he will take you out on lake Michigan. Stay salty & sweet.

Welcome to the channel 🙌 it is the north side of HalfMoon Bay off of Mavericks Beach. You Will want to go at low tide so that the mussels are exposed and easy to grab.
We here in 🇵🇭 we saute in garlic ,ginger, onions, 1 pc minced tomato, put water as soup add pepper ,salt or prepared saute mix we buy in market in according to taste. Try it.. and for little kick of spicy a 1pc green string chilllie(we have here in 🇵🇭). and a little msg(optional)
Thank you I’m from Prince Albert Saskatchewan. I’ve often seen the muscles on the survival shows, but I didn’t know if they were in freshwater as well.
It’s pretty easy: butter first, then garlic, celeries, onions… , then add moules + white wine ( instead of water), cook for some minutes. Ready to serve🤤

Port Jeff Long Island. We have mussels on the north shore along the Sound. You taught me to run them together to clean them! Nice method, thank you!
Do they taste any different on the east coast compared to the west

khrystoferprince let us know how you do. Not that I know of. If you come across a spot for clams let us know and we’ll make a video
Can you do the same in southwest Alaska? I heard something about some toxin they can have?
Cool video! They say you shouldn’t eat them from may-Oct due to toxins off CA coast. Is this true?
I have a secret spot where they are most likely to be clean all year round but it's best not to test your luck so I'd follow the guidelines
During the warmer months the toxins could be higher. I would always double check by making a call to check the toxins first

I get them in San Francisco are you ever worried about the may to October quarantine? Just trying to ask someone with experience.
Great question. We are not worried because we always make a call to check toxins before we harvest
