I buy these at my grocery store in central MN for about $7 and cook them in a pot with shrimp, andoulie sausage, garlic, onion, fennel bulbs, butter, and white wine. OMG so delicious
$11 a kg in pack and save Te Awamutu NZ last Friday 1. sept 2023. I was so shocked that such things were so expensive, and they still had their shells on. Walked on by looks like a Delacy like these are way to heavy for my pocket these days, and I love them as much as any kiwi.
As a fishmonger, I always appreciate those in aquaculture. They help keep my seafood display case full of sustainable and delicious seafood to share and sell to everyone.
Wrote a research paper on the shellfish farming. Really nice to see long line farming and how it is actually done in real life than in words. Very educational and informative!!
These are obviously nice and clean ones. I'm always wary of imported shellfish, because a lot of it comes from nasty polluted water. This was very good.
@@NoalFarm2020 big issue they are finding on the pacific coast mussel and scallop farms is the ocean is absorbing alot of the carbon dioxide released so its acidifying the oceans more and more. they are finding the mussels and scallops are not reproducing because of it. some have introduced buffers to fix the problem in small sections but its gonna be a big issue in the future.
So proud of you, Peyton on your new house congratulations OMG that house is huge and beautiful….Can’t wait to see the full tour. What’s the square footage? 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Great. How long does that take, how efficient is that process in terms of reliable production, and how vulnerable is that process to dynamite fishing, another interesting technique that is employed by many fisherfolk in the Philippines?
wow. I also use New Zealand mussels in my cooking. The pasta is very delicious and great. Thank you very much. After watching the video, I believe it even more.
Thanks GOD, We can enjoy NZ 's mussels in Hk. I love to cook it chinese style with preserved black bean n Chilli or steam garlic butter . Now Winter is coming let's enjoy seafood Tong yummy soup.. with lots n lots of mussels on it.Thanks God in All conditions.
the funny thing is that whole video is about a chilean company in a chilean waters , why not mention in the intro Chile among the list of countries like Spain, New Zealand China and Canada. 😀
I usually like the Noal documentaries, but i am a bit displeased at the mixture of geographies and species: we have New Zealand and then we have France, then Chile and probably another country. Blue mussels and then green mussels and the spat is actually oyster spat! Mussels are seeded in bags, but the collected from ropes! Come on! if you don't have the footage, don't produce a substandard video, or at least tell us these are completely different countries.
They’re seeded in mesh bags that are ropeline but expand as they grow. But really- they’re showing you the process, not the birth story of your particular mussel 🙄
todo el proceso que se muestra y se narra, ocurre en chile, no en nueva Zelanda. No digo que allá no haya cultivo de mejillón, sino que el material visual ocurre en chile. Muy buen video por cierto 👌
Interesting and thanks. Like shell fish myself. I gather that there's a lot of left over shells? What are done with those? Maybe ground up and used as a fertilizer?
i like the taste of the oysters more than the mussels, the taste of the mussels is a bit difficult for me to swallow, the video is very good and very beautiful
Reminds me of the robots with human farms in The Matrix 😁

1. There are no commercially feasible mussel hatcheries in the world (yet). The hatchery and nursery you show are for oysters. 2. They don't produce black mussels in NZ. 3.....many more mistakes

Im curious, what do they do with the shell? Is there a afterproduct for the shell?

If you wrote a paper on it, then surely you shoul dhave visited some of the farming sites to fully understand and appreciate how it is carrid out???

In Manila, farmers set bamboo poles at the coastline and wait for wild mussels to stick themselves in and grow at the pole.
