    Just built this myself. Dragging the back half on the ground like that will scrape the paint off and encourage corrosion. To store, fold the back half over the front and secure it, stand the whole thing up via the tongue, then fold the tongue down and secure it; reverse to unfold (tongue, drop trailer, back half). Cheers!

      Bought one used and want to store in garage. Your method sounds good but can not do it that way to fold inside garage. Cant roll from outside garage into garage. The ground is very rough. Any suggestions?

    • @seemikehack

      @@ridemfast7625 This is the only problem I have encountered as well. My driveway is some pebble aggregate junk, but my garage is smooth. If you have to fold it inside the garage, you could use this method, but put some kind of cardboard or carpet or at least tarp down to prevent the back from scraping. Otherwise, put down some plywood just outside of your garage, and use that as a smooth surface to roll it in on

      @@ridemfast7625 I know it's been 6 months since you posted this comment. But while watching the video I couldn't help but wonder how difficult it would be to simply put some stationary casters on the back end to prevent it from dragging. @@matthewbrayton8166 I used a moving dolly a few times. It works. Hinged the license plate helps to keep it form dragging and bending. Currently I only fold the back half up, place it against the wall, and store things on top and below the trailer. Actually dont lose much floor space since I have a lot of tools, a large motorcycle that slides underneath... I have a few vids of mods I did to it. Its a very solid trailer now.

    I just built the Super Duty this weekend. The hinge plate mounting holes nearest the pivot point are elongated, allowing a full 2" between the front & rear frame when folded. You might want to see if yours are round or elongated on your medium duty model. If they're round, you'd have to modify them. But if they're elongated, then be sure to tighten the bolts only when they're pushed to the maximum clearance.
    I should have NO problem folding mine with 3/4" plywood. Maybe because it was built in Dec 2020 (from the tag) they might have modified it at the factory to address this common complaint.

    Your method works great if you don't have a license plate. I'm guessing you only use it for local farm use or something lien that. I do need a plate, so I modify your method by placing some blocks under the rear so it will never touch the ground or scrape the plate. Tricky to keep it from sliding off the blocks, you just gotta keep it all steady, but it works. I'm going to make a small stand for the rear soon to help with folding. Amazing trailer for the price!

    Your way of doing the unfolding was far better then others i have seen who leave the trailer folded when folding up the tongue, seems like it gives you stability that the others dont have, but i do wonder, could you get some small wheels or casters maybe, and put on the contact with the ground portion of the trailers folding half so that it wont scrape on the ground

    When I was watching you on for that trailer but you could do is you take a flat bar about 6 ft long you put a bolt on one on the side of it and weld it on they put one on the other end and weld it on and what you do with those pockets that's on the side of the trailer that you put the 2x4s in you put the the bolts from that rod into that pocket and then you tighten them down so when you lift the trailer up from the front the front we won't be so heavy cuz the back will be helping you pull the front up and then that the tongue you always want to lay it down first so that don't come down and bring in the head so you take the pins out of the tongue lay the tongue down and just when you go to raise it up in the front the front and the back and the back will help bring up the front so it won't be so heavy again try that and see if you like it won't cost you that much for a rod it might save you a heart from having a hernia or a back problem

    Obviously new, the fenders haven't broken off yet from fatigue. I cut the curved bottom from a 40 gal plastic barrel to make fenders and bolted them to the bracket and frame.
    Good video, but I open mine in a garage with a ceiling height that prevents me from flipping up the hitch. I lower the rear section, attach a strap or rope to the ends of the two halves. This way the rear half counter-balances the front as I lower it. Caution: The angle between the two sections (held together by strap or rope) must be much greater than 90 degrees, to prevent the rear from flipping forward and crushing body parts if it slams together while lowering the front part! When the front is safely on terra firma, undo the rope/strap and lower the relatively light rear section.

    You are dragging the rear and if you had a license plate on it, the plate would be damaged and over time the trailer will be scratched by pulling it on the ground. You can place something underneath that the rear half doesn't get damaged. I understand that you are trying to relieve yourself from all the weight by opening the rear end. Also, others should upgrade the casters for easy moving. The OG casters are crap. Also, put in that pin when you fold.

See page 7 step 8 in the directions where the front half is bolted to the back half. Those two bolts were not shown in the video. Once the plywood bed is put on, access to the bolts is difficult,

    • @C71-m1l
      @C71-m1l 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. It makes it more rigid, but the weight of the load is held by the rear rails that the caster brackets are mounted to. They are, however, a failsafe for the cheap hinges that are put on the sides. There are also 2 bolts on the end of the rear rails that have the same function; they hold the rear bed in place, so there is less stress on the hinges.

      Charles Builds Crap i bought my trailer on 2016..should i send mine back? I want 12 inch tires anyway so even if I did send my 8in tires back I would still be stuck with 8 inch tires when they sent me new ones. I hear 12 in tires are the way to go?

    • @MrCharlesCurrent
      @MrCharlesCurrent  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want 12s then just get 12s. If your tires qualify for the recall (check their site for info) then they will only replace with new 8s.

      It's the only version of the folding trailer they had at the time. Looks like the new version is the heavy duty folding trailer, not the super duty.

    • @RThailand

      Major major fail bc you didn’t put at least 1 tongue pin in immediately after lifting. If that swings back down for any reason you’ll be sorry, especially if you have kids. Hate to say I speak from experience. I’ve owned this trailer and putting the tongue to the ground before the tail also helps you see the trailers light kit wires so that they don’t get pinched in the seam or ripped out. The way shown is also impossible if there is a license plate attached as instructed. The plate would get ripped right off. I hate to be so critical but, safety first...

  • @loadnlock357
    @loadnlock357 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    That's not how you are supposed to do it. You lift the tongue first and rock it down while its still folded. Attach the to your hitch, then un fold the back part. You wouldn't scrape the ass end of it if you to it that way.

    • @SamYoungRadio
      @SamYoungRadio 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right. If he had a tag on it he would scrape it off the trailer doing it that way.

      I just bought one from Harbor Freight myself. They sell them in their retail stores. The cost to ship them directly is prohibitive. Oddly enough though, the two boxes fit rather nicely in the back of an SUV. That's how I got mine home.

    • @C71-m1l

      These are 2 inch casters. If you drill out the holes, you can add 4 or maybe 5 inch casters. Rubber also helps roll over small gravel instead of plastic casters.

    Uh, is it just me that notices that this guy lives in a sprawling, big ass country farm area, in which, he wouldn't need a folding trailer like this in the first place?! I would expect someone, like me with just a small garage a limited yard space, to own something like this. And to the guy who wrote "That's too much work i just leave mine unfolded all the time" then obviously space is not very limited where you live either since you can afford to have it open all the time whereas I live - I cannot. Folks, a folding trailer is for people who CLEARLY don't have the luxury of S P A C E in their residential area! Not Trolling! (If I did, I would've replied to the guy who said he can keep his unfolded all the time!) Just an observation and my 2 cents worth. As for the trailer in the video, I think I like the Lifetime brand 5x6 folding trailer (model # 65005) is better. Much more practical and easier to fold up - way less pinning involved too - and easy to roll away from my front driveway, then through a side gate of my home (only 29 inches wide)., and then store in my shed in the back yard. EASY PEASY!

    • @MrCharlesCurrent
      @MrCharlesCurrent  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Joe Diaz I don't live on a "sprawling, big ass country farm". I live in a manufactured home in a community where I am not allowed to work on anything or store trailer or vehicles. I rent that one shop stall from a nice gentleman that does have a "big ass country farm area", but I'm not allowed to have anything stored outside overnight. And as for the Lifetime trailer, a $1000 dollars for a 4x6 trailer that won't fold flat against a wall, no way. The Harbor Freight is cheap and I can store it against a wall when not in use.
