Port Nola gets new Gantry Cranes

M/S ZHENHUA 23 brings in 4 new Gantry Cranes from Shanghai, China for the Port of New Orleans. Surely an exciting moment for anyone watching on the river and especially me because I’ve never seen Gantry Cranes on a ship before. The ship is assisted by tugs “C.D. WHITE”, “A. THOMAS HIGGINS” and “FREEDOM” and escorted by M/V GEN. ROY S. KELLEY

Ive just seen that the other night south. It was docked on the West Bank.

Wow, are they able to pull alongside a dock and simply walk them off the ship onto the dock? That is going to be interesting!

From my understanding that’s what they do, they get the ship tied off, and load it to the right level and walk them off. I could be wrong though, that’s just what I’ve heard.
