Yeah the Journey is the Best part. Wintery books, hot chocolate, music, snow...

I honestly think therapy makes you a better writer, just the practice of stepping out of your previous perspective helps I think. You can honestly track my mental health journey through the evolution of my voice in the poetry I write, how the vocabulary, and sentence structure changed is honestly mind boggling. I still write about similar things, but my voice sounds articulated and raw now

I haven't given much thought to what I want to read this month, I'm a terrible planner when it comes to reading. I usually read Hogfather just before Christmas as it gets me in the festive spirit so I'll probably be doing that again

I got immortality on sale on amazon but still have to get anatomy, I was a bit on the fence about the books but after I saw your review about it decided to get it and looking forward to it, because it sounds right up my alley!

I haven't read Maggie's Grave yet but I have it on my shelf, same as All the White Spaces (which I originally intended to get done in December anyway), but seems I'll add Maggie's Grave for good measure. I've read Night Shoot and The Haar and he is absolutely the most invigorating voice in horror right now I'd say. Great elements of British humor, fantastic gore and violence, and always a beating heart at the center of the story. He's truly a gift to the horror community right now, I hope you love him and read more!

Have you read Maeve Fly yet? I feel like it's similar to your reading tastes--horror, social commentary--it's described as American Psycho with a female lead. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it, Willow! :)

oh, so lovely about the queer horror book club! This year I joined two SFF book clubs, started a horror book club and co-founded (ish) another one so I became addicted. But in our first horror book club we read/ talked about Camp Damascus :D and in all the book clubs we discuss queer themes, if there are any present (usually there are). Hope you have a great book club!

If you like non human intelligence, try Adrian Tchaikovsky's Children of Time (and the rest of the series). If you haven't already that it.
Also you can make a decent takoyaki with squid if you're not going all the way to vegetarian.

Were the increased mental health difficulties because of witnessing what's going on in Palestine? Because I know that's what's got a LOT of us in a similar boat... I've only found any solace in talking with community about what I've seen on social media happening over there... If you feel able, can you talk about Palestine? Even just boosting fiction and nonfiction written by Palestinian authors does a great deal! It helps humanize the people and the culture in people's eyes. And there's some really great writing out there!

Saga by Brian K Vaughan is the most obvious, but it really is outstanding! And Descender by Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen. Also Bitch Planet by Kelly-Sue DeKonnick is pretty great! And I’m a big Green Lantern fan, too :)
