I was diagnosed with Chronic Bronchitis without smoking! The doctor told me it was a second-hand smoker and gave me some medications but it just worsened during winter or cold seasons.I wish this is curable because as a person who loves singing, it is very hard and no one really understands what I am going through because I am from an Asian household.

really great videos . but one note: chronic and bronchitis as most of the medical terminology come from greek words. chronic is from greek word "Χρόνος" meaning time, and bronchi is from the greek word "βρογχος" meaning a tube through which we inhale, and itis is from the greek acronym -ίτις used to denote inflammation disease.
Thank u for all the great videos

Just needed to point out that the root "bronch" in bronchitis actually stems from the latin word "bronchos" referring to the windpipe (clearly associated with the bronchi, not the lungs). It is correct to say that there is an overproduction of mucous, though this happens more proximal than the lungs themselves. Finally, even though it wasn't really touched upon, emphysema is a condition where the alveoli in the lungs are damaged, eventually rupture and begin to lose surface area therefore impairing gas exchange. This is important to note as in the video it is stated that the structure of the walls of the airway are changed which isn't really emphysema. Overall though good overview, thanks for the video.

I was recently diagnosed with chronic bronchitis, I'm 31 years old and only smoked cigarettes for 5 years. Out of nowhere one night I became so short of breath that I went to the ER. It's baffling that I developed this after only 5 years of being a 1/2 pack a day smoker. I've quit smoking and have noticed relief from the shortness of breath symptoms in about a week. I still have the "smokers cough" but am not coughing up phlegm anymore. Also, do you know of any studies that show the effects of smoking cannabis and a relation to chronic bronchitis? All of the info I have found online has been conflicting.

Chronic Bronchitis : It defined as a persistent productive cough with sputum for at least 3 MONTHS in at least 2 CONSECUTIVE years in ABSENCE OF ANY IDENTIFIABLE cause.

I dont know if i get it. A about 2 weeks ago I got sick and got acute bronchitis. The sickness was gone, my voice is back to normal and no more sore throat. But even so, i still get dry cough everyday at random time. sometimes i want to throw up when I cough. I am not a smoke...maybe a seconds hand smoker occasionally.

You know years ago I had asthma and I still think I have it... when I moved house my doctors changed too, but my records didn't get passed on and I still got a letter telling me to come in for the flu jab and yet I never again saw the asthma nurse. My life became very busy which meant I couldn't get to the doters... yet if I do any exercise or even go up some stairs my lungs feel tight that I can't breath. I have the will power to walk for miles, but within just starting a walk I am so out of breath. I have had problems for years with too much phlegm... even coughing it up after a meal. I can't over after eating otherwise I am out of breath and I cough to the point I feel sick. I am not overweight and I have never smoked, but I have been a victim of passive smoking from others in the past. As my doctors lost my records... they say I don't have asthma and yet I suffer every day! Now I am coughing and coughing and coughing... I can't sleep as I can't breath since they think I don't have asthma I have no inhalers and no flu jab and have caught "EVERYTHING" going as my immune system is poor. It doesn't matter that I eat my veg, fish, white meat and drink water... I still get very ill! I bloody hate my doctor since he is such an asshole just like the one my sister had at the same surgery... he almost killed my sister (misdiagnosis - she actually had a blood clot in her leg which requires hospital treatment) and then he left the practice after receiving some many complaints. I need a new doctor... : (

I was taught that "bloaters" refers to the patient commonly being overweight since physical exertion exasperates the bronchitis. Emphysema patients may have barreled chest due to overuse of the accessory muscles

I was born with asthma & chronic bronchitis BC my mom smoked & did drugs when she was pregnant with me. I would have been better off if she had an abortion.
