      Fill My Cup do all nurses do this? Because I find it a little bit scary that nurses in the UK don't understand their patients ailments. Anyone can watch a you tube video and diagnose themselves. People go to hospital to seek professional help by people who you would hope they knew what they were doing. Not hating, your comment just scares me a bit!

    Speaking about the “cost” of this disease being 50 billion dollars.... I must wonder what that horrible amount might be reduced by if big pharma (& their billion dollar profits) were to charge less than (the approximate) $300 to $400 PER inhaler? The exception to that high-dollar inhaler cost is the Proventil Inhaler which is about $76. The explanation of COPD in this video is very helpful & well explained.

  • @heatherw.671

    I had no idea my COPD was the same as emphysema. Sounds like things are going to get horrible. What really sucks is that I only had to smoke about 6 mos and I was diagnosed with it. As soon as I started smoking, I developed a steady cough & coughing up stuff. Even if I had quit, it wouldn't have helped. So unfair. I don't smoke now....but it's TOO LATE!!! I don't want to die suffocating. Why can't they come up with better treatments to help get the air out?

  • @glendagrant9042

    I have never smoked nor had my mother or her sister. I hate that judgement so much. I am an RN but your explanation of the spirometry was helpful to me. I am retired and luckily my severe sob did not start until 3 yrs ago. I was always coughing and sob with exertion but pretty normal. It just took a turn for the worse and can find no specific reason. I spent 18 months of test and more test and specialist. I am just learning to live with the restrictions. The saddest is I can no longer travel in comfort. I am 70 by the way.

    Never ignore the nutritional aspect of this. All things equal, gut health, and avoiding inflammatory foods including Lectins and Sugar can make a significant and very positive difference. Even minor changes in diet like cutting out grains, soda, sugar, etc., can have a huge positive impact. Doctors are not quick to address this and it is a disservice. I am not suggesting diet will cure COPD but it can definitely help. Whenever a person has pain, they have inflammation.

    My 48 yr old daughter is struggling with breathing issues.
    She struggles with GERD and possible acid reflux into her lung.
    Her apt has flooded several times with mold issues.
    It seems logical to me that acid reflux, and chronic mold exposure would promote the development of COPD.

    I just wanted to thank you for your informative videos, MedCram (love that name... reminds me of how my friend used to "cram" for his finals). In this world of so much bogus information, your straightforward podcasts are like a breath of fresh air, completely without hype or "network news reporting." Incidentally, I'm a big proponent of using mega doses of vita C to boost the human immune system, especially "Liposomal Vitamin C" in the liquid form, proven to be ten times more potent and biologically available, especially with critically ill patients. Maybe you'd care to do a story on the subject? Good luck in all that you do sir, and thanks again.

    Use Tiffenau index, fev1: static vital capacity(not forced), it is corrected by age. Using 0,7 as threshold you overstate an obstruction in elderly people and understate in young people. Anyway good explanation

    Just a fun thought. Glyphosate exposure is also increasing. Glyphosate binds to manganese causing respiratory distress in plants. Manganese is also necessary for animal respiration. Is our food killing us?

    • @tedjay1312
      @tedjay1312 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chemicals used on the plants that are fed to animals in huge quantities (animals eat more than humans) and then concentrated in their flesh that humans then eat. It's a good case for plant based eating instead of animals.

    • @davemi00
      @davemi00 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It starts with Glyphosate “ready” Crops. Genetic engineered Plants.
      Then - Glyphosate is Sprayed on Entire Fields.
      Next - we and our animals are Fed these Crops.
      This doesn’t include animal DNA 🧬 and AntiBiotics added to crops + livestock/poultry.

    I've been coughing a lot and bringing up mucus. My dr mentioned COPD, but other than using inhalers, has not recommended anything. I've had problems with lung issues since I was young. I saw an allergist, and he tested me for allergies, and found that I did have some issues. I changed my diet, by taking out dairy, and other things. However, at certain times of the year I have flair ups. I've had a lung xray which showed clear lungs. I've had bronchitis, pneumonia over the years too. Should I press my Dr for more tests to determine if it is COPD?

    I loved your video on COPD, I do have a question though, I have been diagnosed with COPD but most of my blocked airways come from mucus from my sinus. My Xrays show very little emphysema, but I constantly have post nasal drip ( that is very thick) do you know why that is? Every time I get sick (a cold) I have a hospital stay.

    • @brendacourneyea5880
      @brendacourneyea5880 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Mine is solely based on Post nasal drip. No emphysema but normal Lungs bordering on Asma. Originally diagnosed as COPD! Has since changed. 1 yr later.Mine recent scan should normal but 1 spot ( Miniscule Dr term) in the lower left lung.Working on a new drug no more puffers. Have a great Dr and Yearly Scans to check progress.

    C.O.P.D. is a catchall it seems for several lung diseases. I have an emphysema diagnosis but think the hyperinflation is a result of my extreme childhood asthma, which it seems to me would cause a chronic state of hyperinflation. The doctor took a modern scan of my lungs and assured me, after a bout with viral pneumonia in 2009, that emphysema was present, though I couldn't see it in the scan when he pointed to it. Good for a disability anyway!

  • @PhantomQueenOne

    I have this because of both of my parents chain smoking around my asthmatic ass as a kid. My dad also had asthma and died from COPD. It's a bad death. Now I know what I have to look forward to.

    • @katinabotten
      @katinabotten 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Asthma can get better, COPD never gets better, only worse. I have Asthma and my mom was a chain smoker and died from lung cancer in December 2002. My father smoked pipes in the 1970’s, and just passed from COPD stage IV (cardiac arrest) as he was in his car

    • @PhantomQueenOne
      @PhantomQueenOne 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@katinabotten I'm as well as I will get. My parents chain smoked around me as a child. I don't smoke. My lung function will deteriorate until I go to end stage and die if nothing else kills be first.

      @@PhantomQueenOne Oh no, my heart is aching for you. I "thought," you had asthma (not COPD). This is so unfair for you. In defense of our parents, mine and yours (we are in the same situation), except I do not have COPD, is when our parents smoked like a fish, it was actually fashionable to, and I remember cigarette ads on TV. It was not widely known how bad those cigarettes/pipes were on the lungs. I'm sure your parents, if they could come back, would regret all of this.

    • @PhantomQueenOne
      @PhantomQueenOne 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@katinabotten It's smoke like a chimney. Fish don't smoke. And no, my dad insisted until the day he died of end stage COPD that smoking didn't cause his COPD. This wasn't the only the 'nail in his coffin' that killed him, but it was a major one. He was a carpenter contactor and worked on fire jobs, remodels, delivered coal and ice back in the day, and had other insults to his lungs. Smoking was the worst one.

      @Medcram  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      All of our videos and updates are at our website MedCram.com (only some are here on TH-cam). On this platform, we are not able to go back and update or annotate videos that have been posted. Another reason: Though over half of the videos on our website are free, many of our newer courses and packages are available for purchase. We strive to provide outstanding value to anything we sell, and this set up supports our team's effort to create new videos.
