I wish congress had made Dr. Tharoor their PM candidate, things would have been different, Modi would have still won though, but opposition would have been more assertive than it is today. Congress have only themselves to blame for their downfall.
Shashi Tharoir is barely a recognised figure in the rural sectors of India. No mass appeal beyond cities. Thats probably the reason he was never considered. Even educated folks struggle to understand him at times.
That's also the same reason Raghuram Rajan and Amartya Sen were also not considered. Manmohan Singh was not the PM face either. Sadly the best candidates have a very marginal and thin chance of being voted to power. It's all rhetoric that gainers votes.
