How did I miss Joan Jett. I am 77yrs and only heard her name before this week and am seeing her on Letterman. I am timetraveler in love. She was incredible. I was never a rock fan until now it's October 2022. She is on my playlist at last.

Starting at 4:57 you can hear noises from either the band or backstage. At 5:08 Letterman pointed behind him and said there are some "backstage problems". Watching it again I guess her guitar player was shouting the answers to his questions maybe before Jett can? Letterman seemed bugged by it the rest of the interview. He ended the vid by saying maybe he can get his job in Indiana back but I guess that was about the failed phone call.

You may be right that it was her guitarist who was shouting something. But I don't have any inside info on this. I know that this was an odd show -- not much was going right all night, and the failed, time-killing phone call just added to it.
