It’s easier to charge a girl with False Report than to do an entire investigation, apparently. I truly thought I was the only one until I stumbled upon a Netflix doc about it a few months ago. That bad man STILL contacts me to this day saying he shouldn’t have let me get away and I was the best thing he’s ever had. It’s been almost 20 fkn years and he makes new FB accounts to msg me from cuz I block him every time. I have a folder saved on my hard drive with ALL the stuff he sends me and I email everything to my best friend cuz I bought gun. I will be armed with proof up to the DA’s eyeballs that he’s been stalking me ever since I escaped. I wish this man no harm because I have learned compassion is the only way we will ever progress as human beings, but I won’t let him touch me ever again. If he tries to break into my house (like he did 18 years ago), I will not ask questions. I learned the hard way that sometimes you really MUST put yourself first. Because I can’t call the cops on him ever again thanks to that False Report arrest. The DA who prosecuted me was the same DA that refused to let Daniel Villegas free (an innocent man who was wrongfully convicted of murder as a teenage boy). He was recently released (FINALLY!). The corruption runs deep in my city’s Law Enforcement, but thankfully he’s no longer our DA. That documentary is called “Victim/Suspect” on Netflix. What happened to those poor girls is EXACTLY what happened to me when I tried to get help. This is exactly why I fled the state and didn’t just go to a different town. I wanted a new life where I wasn’t seen as some liar (honesty really matters to me).

Funny story, Buddy of mine introduced our unit to this song I. Afghan. We got so hooked on it when we rolled into an area in force we blared this on our PA’s. Scared the s***t out of the locals and they didn’t want to fight after.
I hear the alternative influence of nu metal but this has a hardcore and death metal influence on par with Iowa-era Slipknot. Much like them at the time, this was significantly heavier than pretty much all other bands of the time that we would've called nu-metal. Definitely born of the era, but in a different tier for sure.

Saw this band in concert many years ago....blew my mind. Otep really surprised me with her vocals. Never knew something that small could produce that heavy deep sound....very cool.

Otep always has meaningful lyrics with a great delivery vocally, but we have to give Moke or however you say the drummer's name a ton of credit!! He is the one that is ridiculously underrated! I haven't really heard another drummer with as many different influences in his playing making his sound so unique! Otep was telling about his influences in an interview and mentioned five or six that he tries to incorporate in his style, and still loves to try to learn more and keep exploring which is unusual since the band has been in the game a while!

At first I didn't like it then let the song get to me. I didn't even know that women do this. Now I love metal and wanna learn how to growl. 8 months later I actually met Otep and saw her live as my first concert.

Shamaya herself has expressed interest in touring with Slipknot a handful of times before, so who knows? Also, saying bands can't share a tour because of their styles is ignorant, and I can name numerous examples of such opposing genres and lyrical content touring together.

I think bands in this style will make a comeback. More emphasis on groove and feeling, than just the all out tech metal that's been prevalent the last decade.
I was still in high school the first time I heard Otep back in like 01'-02', I remember going to their webpage and E-mailing Evil J as I had just started playing bass at the time. He actually wrote me back! He was nice and really inspirational, cool guys and gal. Shame I never got to see them in concert.

I remember the first time I heard this...my jaw dropped at that first scream. I was like...that's a chick on vocals?!?!? I know there was probably some editing work done on the vocals in studio but it's still nuts how a girl can scream with such a low and deep vocal like this.

Met this band at a small venue called Jester's pub in Fayetteville, NC, along with Mushroomhead and Suicide City (bar is sadly gone), and the hotel party was so fun! Getting to interact with the real humans behind this awesome music was inspiring, and also a reality check as I refuse to commit to use my talents publicly with a contract. It's a real struggle to live their way of life, so appreciate their sacrifices to bring you great music

"House Of Secrets" was the best album for me(in terms of instrumental songwriting), but her type of screaming in the first album is completely untouchable.
I like her new album, not nearly as much as the older stuff but I still think it's good. It has a bigger sense of dread and despair where as this song has a big emphasis on anger and frustration.
I first listened to Otep back in 2011 when I was 25. Actually her music is what got me into real metal!! Since then I have seen her perform every year! If you've never seen her live you need to! I saw Otep live at Donnigton in 2002 and this band was one of the reasons why I took a plane from Spain to enjoy that amazing and unforgetable event.
I was still in high school the first time I heard Otep back in like 01'-02', I remember going to their webpage and E-mailing Evil J as I had just started playing bass at the time. He actually wrote me back! He was nice and really inspirational, cool guys and gal. Shame I never got to see them in concert.

If you want brutal female vocals look up 13 Winters and Fear of God -- look up Betrayed by Fear of God. Dawn is a better vocalist with the tormented voices.

Met this band at a small venue called Jester's pub in Fayetteville, NC, along with Mushroomhead and Suicide City (bar is sadly gone), and the hotel party was so fun! Getting to interact with the real humans behind this awesome music was inspiring, and also a reality check as I refuse to commit to use my talents publicly with a contract. It's a real struggle to live their way of life, so appreciate their sacrifices to bring you great music

I like her new album, not nearly as much as the older stuff but I still think it's good. It has a bigger sense of dread and despair where as this song has a big emphasis on anger and frustration.
