It is my understanding that AVI and KEVIN collaborated to write this.
Are they good? Nope. Pentatonix is PHENOMENAL, waaay more than good. Just my (and millions of others) opinion
I also missed Avi when he left PTX, but now we have the best of both worlds. Matt is doing an amazing job with PTX, and Avi is creating and performing his own original music. It's a win/win. You should check out Avi's solo work if you want to hear something that will penetrate your heart and soul.

PopSpring 2016 is my favorite video of theirs and it includes 3 originals (my favorite of which is Can’t Sleep Love) and then the evolution of Michael Jackson. The quality is amazing especially for a live performance.
This song was written by Avi and Kevin and if you listen to Avi’s solo music (you should, he’s amazing!) you’ll recognize his style from this and a few other PTX originals he wrote.
I don't know much about Matt and no hate to him, but I feel like Avi's musical tastes grounded the group a bit more and his musical impact on the group's arrangements and so forth brought a lot more warmth to the group (beyond just his voice)... PTX still has oodles of talent and creativity... but it just feels somehow more hollow, maybe they're just more commercially successful or maybe music has just changed... IDK.
You need to check out Avi’s solo work! Check out “Change on the Rise”. He also released his first full length album , “Floating on a Dream” last year.

This is such a beautiful song in any genre. Co-written by Avi and Kevin who also wrote 'Love Again', a phenomenal EDM track that could not be more different. Please react to Avi's solo work - he is a fabulous songwriter. His style now is very different to PTX and he works with some very talented musicians.

I also miss Avi in PTX, any of their songs with an Avi solo will always be my favorite! But I absolutely love ALL of his solo work. He is an amazing singer and songwriter.

Avi has one of the most beautiful voices of anyone singing today. Its so beautifully controlled in his whole range and the tambre simply gives me goosebumps.

This is a beautiful song. Did you noticed that the flakes were falling UP during the chorus? They learned to mouth the words backwards with the flakes falling, and reversed the video and sang over it. There are only 4 words in the chorus "I'll run to you", so it wasn't too hard to do. It's such a great effect. If you want to see a few wonderful originals, check out Love Again, Can't Sleep Love, Sing and Happy Now. All of these have official videos, and there are also live performances of each.

These songs that have no beatboxing or any background instruments to fill in behind the voices is the ultimate proof just how good, no, great they are. They CAN do anything!!!!!! You want to know how well a group does together just give them a purely vocal a cappella song to sing. So FANTASTIC !!!

This was off the masterpiece that is PTX Volume 2. This EP started with Can't Hold Us, and didn't let go until Daft Punk which was their first Grammy. They were so good early.
There is an original EDM type song called Love Again that I still can't believe doesn't have instruments.
They are the best arrangers of the past decade and I don't think it is close. They are also some of the best writers.

Three that showcase the eclectic variety of his incredible music are: his hauntingly beautiful "Avi Kaplan, All Is Well, 7 Layers Session # 126"~ His powerful "Change on the Rise" ~ and the jamming "When I'm A Fool, live at Sunset Sound " One doesn't just hear Avi's uniquely touching voice, we feel it, too. Love Avi. He has such a mellow, gorgeous voice…but my favorite is Mitch…I think he’s amazing in the lead.
They have so many great originals to chose from - Love Again, Cracked, Can't Sleep Love, Coffee in Bed, Water, and more. Dive in!
FYI -- Pentatonix are doing a world tour this year. They are in Asia right now and will be in Europe in May, including concerts in Berlin and Cologne. There are some good live videos available from the 2021 and 2022 Christmas tours and the 2021 Hollywood Bowl concert, and even a few fan videos from the current tour.
I believe that they had to learn to lip-sync BACKWARDS for some of this as it was filmed then reversed to make the snow fall UPWARDS!! So not a simple video!

Welcome back to Pentatonix reactions. Pentatonix has had original songs on a lot of their EPs / albums, and there are two albums that are almost all originals. Every group member has co-written original songs and they collaborate with other songwriters and producers so there are a variety of styles. Two of my favorites are "Sing" from their self-titled 2015 originals album and "Happy Now" from "The Lucky Ones" (2021)

Why assume they have no originals? They have many, and all of them are awesome! Do some homework and get back to us.
PTX actually has quite a bit of original music, it just doesn't perform as well as the originals
You aren't alone in missing Avi; most pentaholics do. But, while Matt's style is different from Avi's, he's just as talented, and he seems to be improving on a daily basis.
It isn't a competition. Avi is off doing his own thing, and Matt is with Pentatonix doing *his* thing, and Matt's thing is spectacular. At this point I believe (based on what I heard in a live performance) that Matt's range is actually *greater* than Avi's. But Matt is more subtle than Avi - he doesn't just belt out the bass part so that everyone has to stop and pay attention to him, and this makes him a better fit for Pentatonix; it lets him provide really good support for the rest of the group, which is exactly what he should be doing.

@@cocohol3513 I fail to see the criticism in this comment. Whomever likes Avi, great. Life goes on.
Avi has an opera trained voice, so obviously it is going to be very powerful. He has said that he only got to use about 10% of his vocal ability when he was with PTX. But I agree, Matt is much more suited to the direction that PTX has gone now and Avi is doing very well these days, so it has all worked out.
@@chrispavlich9656 I was pointing out that they said it's not a competition and then wrote a long paragraph about why Matt was better than Avi. Obviously they do think it's a competition.
@@cocohol3513 Didn't say his was better than Avi. They described their different vocal approaches (without judgement what was better) and said they prefered Matts for the direction they are going. Not that one is better than the other.
