i think producers around the world listening to this album for the first time will share my opinion that Peggy has masterfully inspired and set the tone for ethical AI usage in the realm of sampled hip-hop production- not even just on "either on or off the drugs." it's one thing that his sampling of an AI reimagination of "Turn On The Lights" is executed to perfection, but it's also clever in the sense that it's not meant for shock value at all; it's simply a beautiful sample, and Peggy recognized it immediately despite all of the connotations of it's conception. it also helps that sampling AI helps you dodge sample clearances and any legal trouble. however, i would argue the more inspiring use of AI on this album is his use of AI vocal isolation. it's all over this album ("I'll Be Right There," "it's dark and hell is hot," "New Black History," "vulgar display," "Exmilitary," "i recovered from this") and frankly, it's genius. it previously wasn't possible to get isolated vocals to sound good enough to put on an album by using the traditional phase cancellation methods, but recent AI models that Peggy is clearly utilizing can create studio-quality stems that he can then reimagine through his own production. then he can sample his own reimagination of the sample to create a completely unique experience that hardly even feels like sampling in the first place. again, GENIUS.
just two funfacts for you guys: 1. it's dark and hell is hot is co-produced by DJ RaMeMes, a underground brazilian funk producer. peggy collaborate with him when he was on a vacation in brazil couple months ago. 2. buzzy lee who's featured in don't put anything on the bible is in fact Sasha Spielberg, daughter of the famous director Steven Spielberg.
I've got another suggestion that I would love to add to your ever-growing list. Sometimes I Might Be Introvert by Little Simz was seriously 2021 rap AOTY material
Same, I give him a pass because he didn’t use the ai himself someone else posted it and it was a future song remade into a soul song by an AI so idk. I don’t like Ai but it is funny he turned an ai shit post into a beautiful song lol.
At the end of the day AI is just a tool. I think the concerns around AI are completely valid, but complete shunning of it is both inachievable and impractical. Cool shit can come out of it, like this song; it just has to be monitored and regulated.
Quick question: I'm gonna listen to his discography since this one was my first album from Peggy. Would you suggest starting with his debut album and going chronologically through them? Or backward chronologically from here starting with Scaring the Hoes?
@@habadasheryjonesjust go backward, all good albums my favorites are LP! Offline and All My Heros Are Cornballs, after that make sure you check out his music when jpegmafia was under “Devon Hendryx”
@@habadasheryjones Start with the LP, it's definitely his most accessible work. Then go to All My Heroes Are Cornballs (for me, his best work) or Scaring The Hoes.
An interesting thing Peggy said at one of his live shows recently was that one of the reasons this album took so long was because it took a lot of work to make the instruments sound real despite the fact he didn't know how to play them
@@chroney8355While I can’t confirm or deny the original comment; Peggy has collaborated with content creators online and has clearly stated that he doesn’t know how to play instruments. Everything you hear from his music is the culmination of him reading the manuals for all the programs he uses; front to back. From that, trial and error mixed with repetition. His whole music journey and military history are all really intriguing.
I love that you guys give Peggy's lyricism a chance. It's obviously not Kendrick's level but most people just give up on it amidst the chaos that is his production (which is completely fair tbh). He actually does have bars here and there and they are funny as hell lol
I thought it was cool that Peggy sampled the same Future song that Vince used as a sample on his album. The song is Senorita on Vince's Summertime '06 project
Yo I've only heard Billy Woods on tracks called RIP Tracy and Tabula Rasa. Dude is fire. Where do I start? I know he's in a duo act called Armand Hammer too.
A couple more interesting references on this album: One of several metal references-Vulgar Display of Power is the name of the second Pantera album. The Future sample in New Black History is from his song Covered n Money, and that exact same sample was used by Vince Staples in his song Senorita. So cool seeing that used on a song ft. Vince. And speaking of Vince Staples, yall should check out his album from this year, Dark Times. Its probably still my favorite album of the year so far. Great video as always!
