I wish people would not judge the song for what it appears to be in the video! Because the reality of it is so truly different.... then what is portrayed here! When Benny and his buddy wrote this song... it didn't even occur to him people would take it that way! Until the studio proposed the video. Since it wasn't he....apparently didnt have much say in it....he had to go along with what they wanted to do for the video! The explanation is just extremely long! LOL.

I think this video was the 70's version of clout chasing dont get me wrong the song i one of my favourite of all time but this video was clearly made to garner some attention and it did just that .... Word of mouth about the video is what cause a lot of interest and people still ended up liking the song . This video almost couldn't be released in this modern age......
Somewhat controversial song lol, but since we're dealing with a young (teenage) girl and an older guy, how about "Chevy Van" by Sammy Johns "Young girl" by Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, Mac Davis "Baby don't get hooked on me" Steve Lawrence "Go away little girl" quite a few rock and pop songs on this topic and yes Benny's voice was amazing
"Young Girl" was about a girl who came across as older. The way she dressed, the makeup, etc... After he fell for her, he found out her age. Then he didn't want her around. It's actually an innocent song. He wished she was older, because that was who he fell in love with.
Before you judge this song look up what the song was about. Benny helped a family out who's father ran out on them. I agree the video is cringe. Benny was well respected and loved.
The song was never really about being with 16 year old girl! He should have said no to the Video they proposed!!! There's a completely different story as to how this song truly came about! The poor guy was actually just trying to help a small family with 3 kids after their father left them! He paid the older daughter to walk his dog ...he paid her brother to clean his car or something like that. When she graduated high school ...he helped her get a really good job and she met Very influential man... very rich man that she married! She sent Christmas cards and birthday cards for years.... his family and friends attesr to this!
