My song! I was 16 when I met my husband. He was 26. This is the best song ever and Bennys voice was superb. We had 41 years together before I lost him 5 years ago. Nothing creepy about our love at all. I miss you so much Jim.
Here we go again....this song is not creepy. Go to Professor of Rock's interview with Benny. In short, the song is about a 16 yr old who's father left the family with nothing and Benny helped them out financially. 🎶🎵💚 RIP...what a frickin' voice
I agree with you, as I saw the Prof of Rock's interview. But without the context that Benny provided in that interview, the song does come off as inappropriate at the very least. I think the biggest problem, though, is the video, which is without question deeply creepy. The least they could've done would have been to hire a young actor to play the part of the young man in love with a 16-yr old girl who is perhaps just a couple of years younger than himself. But having Benny play that role in tbe video was a bad decision. When he crawks through her bedtmroom window. Just ewww! I am so glad that Shawn reacted to this amazing studio version, and not the video.
I absolutely love the song & his vocals, but you gotta admit the video is a bit strange. It may have started off innocent, but the lyrics say otherwise.
I was 16 when this song came out, and I thought it was awesome.❤I recently found out what it was about, and now I love it, and Benny more. Such a sweet story.
That is such a significant song to me in that the memories are particularly vivid, intimate, sweet and special. Ironically that's probably the case from many guys my age. I was a late teen doing what we do and no matter who I was with, that song would always be in the background at 3 or 4 in the morning while me and whoever would be enjoying each other, talking or being silly. The memories are precious and cherished and that song in particular is one that blows the dust off those memories. The 80's were awesome!!!
Unfortunately we lost Mardones in June 2020 to horrible Parkinsons. Love this beautiful tune from the man. Vocals, the music.. lyrics..just special. Great reaction Shawn..beautiful again..🎤🎶💓
Wow, I haven't heard this in a long time, but it got a lot of radio play when it came out. Thanks for the pick and your great reaction. I remember there was some talk regarding the lyrics at one time. Blessings all.
My wife was 16 when we started seeing each other long time family friend. She actually started Chasing Me told her her older sister at about 11 she was going to marry me, that was45 years ago still going. Her mind set of maturity at that age was amazing.
It's amazing to me that at the time that these songs that get reactions were released, no one thought that they were creepy... and they weren't. Politicians have conditioned us to think this way with the ridiculous "Me Too" movement and others. The media just crams it down our throat now. So many of these reaction channels call some of the most innocent songs especially from the 70's and 80's creepy. There's really nothing about them that is creepy. Our music from that time is SO much better than the dark, dreary, unmelodic, full of attitude music that's being released today.
When of the best adult contemporary rock vocals laid to music ever. When it was released, I couldn't stop listening to that powerful delivery. Signature song for him. Has the distinction of climbing into the top 20 charts twice, years apart!
This made me think of the song “Young Girl” by Gary Puckett & the Union Gap. In this song the young one was hiding her age, trying to make it seem like she was older & in the song he did the right thing & ended it. Anyway, great reaction! Thanks Shawn! 😀
I've never heard of this singer or the song before, but I like it. He reminds me of Eddie Money, another rock singer you should check out. Remember Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet were in their mid-teens at a time when girls were encouraged to seek husbands when they finished school at about age 14. We don't do that anymore largely because a good education takes us to age 18 now and for the last century or so. And when I was 25 a girl I thought was about my age introduced herself to me and we dated for several months before I asked her why we always wound up at my place and never hers, and that's when she confessed she was a 17-year-old high school senior and hadn't wanted to tell me before I got to know her. She didn't want to be rejected just because of her age, and she didn't know my age either and hoped I'd be like 19 or 20. Obviously, we broke up shortly after that.
Thank you !!! FINALLY, someone that sees this song for what it is ... with maturity and is able to understand that it's not from a pedophile's perspective. People are so eager to play that card while praising songs like WAP. It makes no sense. It also implies that the world made it a hit record twice, in 1980 and again in 1989, knowing what it was about. No, it's not that world that is sick, it's this one. This was a beautiful song ... and always has been !!!
Oh man I love this song. I didn't know the backstory it kind of messes it up for me. I'm 65 this month and this was not acceptable in my time when I was a 16-year-old.
Welcome to the world of Benny. This was by far his biggest hit, but he was also a rocker. Pull up a song called Sheila C from the Too Much To Lose album (there are various versions, that is the best one). You will hear a voice you won't believe.
Benny said that this song was about helping the girl's family when they were in need.. but if you watch the music video, he's making out with her in the end. May your soul rest in peace Benny but this song isn't just about helping a girl's family
GINO VANNELLI - " Love And Emotion " 70s Rock/Yacht Rock/Jazz/Soul/Moog Bass. Absolutely Rockin' Fast Tempo Beat and Fantastic Vocals also check out " I Just Wanna Stop (1978) Video if you haven't heard it yet 🎸🎹💯🔥🔥 both songs pure Music Genius
People making a fuss over the age thing…..there have been other songs of similar nature including the reverse…..eg Bobby Goldsboro - Summer ( the first time ) which is a favourite of mine not from personal experience
Sounds like Steve Perry. Could've taken his place in Journey if he could hit the high notes that Steve could. Pretty saucey lyrics too. But what the heck, the age of consent in 38 States is 16 or younger anyway. Probably was still banned in Boston😅 You want obscure Shawn? The greatest singer songwriter nobody ever heard of is Jude Cole. Start the Car, Open Road, Baby it's Tonight.
Not true, that’s a reaction to the terrible video Benny was forced to make, watch the Professor of Rock interview with Benny to get the true story, behind the lyrics, search YT "1 Hit Wonder CHARTED Same Song TWICE In The 80s & Everyone Has the Meaning Wrong | Professor Of Rock"

@@ericdraven7185 Yeah, and she doesn't look a day over 13.

The more you listen to this song the harder it hits.

One of the top ten primal screams in modern music, at least in my book, if there is such a list somewhere.
I love this song when it first came out and I still do today
Into the Night is my favorite 80's song! Mardones has a voice like none other.
That guy Is feeling the song

Because of the terrible video they did. I'm glad he just listened to the song.
@@LillyMarz777 I don't remember seeing that. I guess I'm glad I didn't!
@@LillyMarz777 yes...agree about video but tune itself just wonderful...👍
Always loved this song
I LOVE THIS SONG AND BENNY'S VOICE ❤❤❤❤❤
its a pedophile song
I was happy to learn that he's the one that was saying to someone else "she's just 16 years old, leave her alone".
My wife was 16 when we started seeing each other long time family friend. She actually started Chasing Me told her her older sister at about 11 she was going to marry me, that was45 years ago still going. Her mind set of maturity at that age was amazing.

He was called, “The Voice”.
His voice was amazing!!!

All the groupies hid their age. I read somwhere the average age of a groupie in the 1970s was 15 1/2 yo!!
I love this song, I listened to it in the 80s and I still listen to it to this day 💖💖💖, greetings from Chile 🇨🇱
Awesome reaction!! Perma-grin the entire song! Great song... fantastic song, an even better reaction!!
Benny's the man..
I'm glad you reacted to the audio instead of the official video. Which is definitely creepy to watch. Haha. Fantastic voice tho. 😃
R.I.P. Benny😢
HIs voice was amazing. Questionable subject matter....but you can't complain about the music or his talent. Such a great song. RIP Benny.

Yes to Eddie Money!! "Gimme Some Water" would be a great start!
I always loved this song.
Patty-I loved this song. I was in college when it came out. Good memories.
He was born in 1946, so he's 34 in this video chasing a 16 year old girl. To quote Chris Hansen : "What do you think....SHOULD happen to you?"
lol. I hope theres a reasonable explaination to these lyrics.
They just don't make music like this anymore. So good. Great musicians .So many memories.
Professor of Rock interview with Benny gave the story behind the song…..not the creepiness projected.

I think this song appeared twice on the charts - first in 1980, which I remember well, and then again a decade or do later.
It is a beautiful love song sung with deep pathos
This song is just incredible!🎉

not creepy. not pervy. not pedo. the age of consent is 16 in 30 US states. please to enjoy!
Such a wonderful song!!! I was 15 when we met He was 23. It was love ❤
He's like 40, singing about loving a 16 year old, so the creepy factor is a 10, but so his voice. One of the best ballads ever.
