Hi Neil, Nice video… I seem to remember an early web page of yours where your abseiling at Foggin Tor Quarry.. Anyhow. Good to see the moor in reasonable weather and Nice to see Fur Tor..
love it,thx 4 sharing. always good to visit old places where things staeted....I'm 66 now and I know these journeys to yours past....I know exactly.....
Great to see you on home soil, I've done overnights on all the far North Tors but high time i got that one in. Makes a nice change seeing you do a camp out.
Greetings from Devon Neil. Great video of you in a beautiful area. If I go out the back of my house and look into the distance I can clearly see Hay Tor. Beautiful. I count myself very lucky. I agree, Dartmoor is big and beautiful but is very challenging even with the right skills, knowledge and kit.
nice one brought up in Scotland small village called moniaive first camp at 10 a hill above my mum and dads house about 75 to a 100m up a hill the back of there cottage early 70s joined the army 1980 infantry recce cop never had a problem in my basha still do my wee wild camp great channel 🤣
My childhood navigation cherry pop was the New Forest around Burley, Ringwood and New Milton area where my parents retired to. There were so many places to go and much of which I travelled to by bike, I went through a few bikes. I learnt to navigate very young as we're a military family with links to all the services and cadets was a revelation to me, we went everywhere. I knew the A303 & A35 like the back o' me hand. My kids grew up North of Bristol and we camped out in Gloucestershire a lot as well as Devon Somerset, Cornwall - where half of my ancestry is from and Wiltshire which I knew from being a sprog. I never went to Dartmoor until a training exercise many years later.
A very reflective inducing video!🤔How I wish I could be back to 1981, just left school, my whole life ahead……….present day…….slow creeping arthritis in hips, country gone to……well, actually, probably not much better than then in some respects, mass unemployment, Thatcher in full stride……..Oh dear……I’m off to bed for the next……..😬☹️🤷♂️🤣
Hi Neil, the solognac trousers you have on in them colours have been discontinued ive got a couple pairs too they now have them in army green with black patches now just ordered a pair from Decathlon
@@greencraft4783, no one is "out of your league," Neil, you're up there with the best. It's a shame that the guy from MCQ Bushcraft stopped making videos, I think you two are/we're the best in the UK. I'm not knocking anyone else, I just like your style and content.
This was really interesting. I have a question: I’d like to learn to navigate. Do you have any recommendations for courses, books or TH-cam tutorials please?
I set out to drive down to the moor at 2am, drove for 5 hours and then walked for five hours to shoot the video. By 2100hrs I was struggling to stay awake! the drive back was hell (eight and a half hours!!!)
@greencraft4783 fair enough! I don't drive myself. Too much of a plonker to learn! I did have a go, but was terrible! I used to go everywhere by train, but now I am trying to get back to cycling everywhere? Had a few injuries lately.

@kevinharry7418 as a kid, I used to look up the Teign toward a distant Hay Tor
Awesome .you should do a camping trip with Simon a bloke in the woods and kent survival etc 👍🔥
Very nice my friend😎
Great vid. Loved the bogs. Nothing like that up here in the Rockies

I can't help but think of the movie an American werewolf in london when I see the moors 😊
Or the Great Grimpen Mire of The Hound of the Baskervilles.
I’ve been Next Time before, too!

great video, would you do one with Kent Survival? or Simon, a bloke in the woods? or MDM
TA outdoors (uk), or hidden valley bushcraft (uk). Maybe ranger survival and field craft (us)
Those guys are super good and out of my league

Can you tell me what backpack you were using, please?
@@anthonyjacobs6790 it's my Berghaus Cyclops Roc from 1983! I got it to replace the big frame pack
I'm trying to remember where that pub was that you took us to. Inside it was like an old ship?
The Highwayman at Sourton! I thought you would enjoy this one. If I had the time I would go up and do Knoydart again, that was a great one
That would be great! I just need to find a Scottish Sherpa service to carry my bergen!

Neil, I think you missed a trick on this post. Isn't Dartmoor a Dark Sky area? A night sky shoot would of been nice.😮

Burrito means, "little burro"...Always made me wonder what I was eating. As usual a top notch vid. Did you use a drone on some of those shots?
Yes, I have a little Hoverair X1, it's brilliant.
Neal, what do use for the wick in your "puck" alcohol stove?
Loft insulation

You drink the water you have heatened a plastic bag in? Are you not concerned about the harmful substances in the plastic bag?
Fantastic video. I'm the same age as you and also remember those early 80s first independent camps, here in Australia. Thank you.
