Children in care ‘could reach 100,000 without reform of England’s system’

  • The number of children in care in England could soar to 100,000 unless there is radical reform of the social care system.
    (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News...)
That's according to an independent review of children's services - which calls for an urgent increase in funding, the recruitment of more foster carers and a windfall tax on private children's home operators.
We spoke to one recent care leaver and a frontline social worker about a system under creaking pressure.

So sad would have never thought that of England. I am still alive, healthy, and desperate to have my son bck into my care. After a diagnosis the LA decided to place my child. My child desperately wants to be returned home. And yet they don't care. The care system needs urgent reform so many children are emotionally hurt.

The big question is why Britain has this type of problem while other Europeans' social services work better. Is a failing social welfare system or family values to blame? Both. Some families have children for the sake of claiming benefits. When things go wrong, they get rid of them by asking the government to look after their children. If the UK benefits system was more restricted and limited, people would think twice about having children.

      @D C
As a Christian I believe in family values.
The father should be just as responsible as the mother. In other cultures even where there is poverty the families manage to take care of one another.
We need family values back in Britain again. Statistically children thrive more being brought up in the family than in care.

as a child of care and as a partner of a therapeutic care worker i can safely say that you are nothing more than a person with price tag. Care homes are typically run by private companies that lack therapeutic care of any kind and are only focused upon bringing kids into the home solely because of the allowance that they bring. As a result many safe guarding techniques are not properly enforced and many vulnerable children in care are groomed by gang members and by sexual predators. The answer isnt to financially entice companies to open homes but to hold those homes accountable, otherwise you end up with the current situation in Bradford where OFSTED closed majority of homes as they failed to meet standards and placed children (either directly or indirectly) in harmful and often dangerous situations.

The state and tax payer should not be paying to raise children it’s parental responsibility. Help sure but to raise them. Madness. A child raised by the state is messed up. People are dealing with their own kids they can’t take on other peoples too, nowhere to put them but institutions. It’s not fair on anyone. Stop having kids and abusing them ffs this is a trend getting. Every other day parents are hurting their kids and going to jail for abuse. Parents are becoming more dangerous than strangers. It’s mind boggling that 100,000 kids have abusive or uncaring parents.

It’s not just social care on kids in the system it’s also social care on care for those with disabilities and elderly, they go on holiday but don’t set an interim worker, put caters in place they will come in for 5 mins or take out the trash outside and sign they’ve done there HOUR which they get payed for, it shouldn’t just be a windfall on the private providers but more stringent checks and screening of caters and care services before put in. There are failings all over mental health social care, mental health, hospitals drs, yes and no social carers aren’t responsible for people being bad but they are responsible to thoroughly check there backgrounds

The system cares and works for those who have money and fit into society.

eventually, the wallpaper wore off and my family used to do little doodles on the walls before wallpapering, just as a nice memory kinda thing, but social services decided to say there was graffiti on the walls, no carpet and a broken/flooded toilet. As if that's just how we always had it...
To make things worse, my social worker used to pull me out of my favourite lessons just to ask me twisted questions like: "does your mum drink?" And as a 5 year old, alcohol doesn't exist to you so i obviously replied yes everyday.

Our 3 children were stolen from us by over zealous social workers, my partner was a recovering alcoholic due to childhood abuse and i was incapacitated due to extensive cancer treatment, we tried to fight for them, including passing alcohol and drug tests, having no transport or money and ensuring we were at every meeting, instead of aiding us social services eventually ground us down and took them for good after 2 years of court battles, the solicitors we were allowed to use were quite happy to follow ss directions to ensure they got a steady stream of lucrative future child cases. The whole system is rigged, michael gove was the instigator of these gestapo tactics as he explained" i was adopted as a child and it turned out far better for me" well lucky michael! Because Unfortunately he has destroyed 100's of thousands of familys, good families, going through short term problems. I am old enough to know that one day his conscience will destroy him.

People have problems but so what? You're suggesting we add new problems to the old ones.
Why not bring 100 million problems here? By your logic.

perhaps the total destruction of the traditional family and the undermining of the concept of a biologically male father and a biologically female mother and the assumption that all authority is bad may have a lot to do with this. Now tell me C4N, which side of that destructive process have you been on?

You could also argue that the complete disallusionment that is leveled onto all men as a group, as if they are all some form of evil malevolence just for existing. Women insisting that men have zero say in a relationship is also going to damage relations severely

    THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST
    1 Corinthians 15:3-4 KJV
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures
    ABC's OF SALVATION
    ADMIT
Admit to God that you are a sinner. Repent and turn away from your sin.
Romans 3:23 - "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;"
Romans 6:23 - "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
    BELIEVE
Believe that Jesus is God's Son and that God sent Jesus to save you from your sins.
John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
    CONFESS
Confess Jesus as your Savior and Lord.
Romans 10:9-10 - “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Authorities should make it easier to become a foster parent. Detailing your life from birth onwards including all addresses, references from past partners, also I don’t know any British family who have a spare bedroom that is needed for a foster child.

It's cruel to put people like her into care, she should have been sent back to her family in Africa where her culture would have been better understood.
I'm sorry to hear that such an oppressed individual with no money was somehow able to attend university, how does that even work?
