This video is helpful only in this exact case presented in the video.
For the ones that are having this problem on a brand new/ formated card, follow these steps:
1. Insert the SD Card in your PC/ laptop, or in your external card reader.
Assuming there is nothing at all on your new/formated card
2. Name your card Nikon D5200/5100,3200, etc. (your camera type)
3. Click and enter your SD Card
4. In there, create a new folder and name it "DCIM"
5. Double click on the new created folder "DCIM"
6. In this one, create another folder called "100DSC"
I did this with 2 of my cards, about which the camera was saying they were damaged, and worked perfectly on both.
I see this is the way the camera is formatting your card if u do that from the camera. First a DCIM folder and then a "100something" folder.
I'm not sure if the second folder's name has something to do with it, but I saw it always starts with 100.

Thanks so much for this and whoever you got the info from. I just shot a bunch of footage for a school project today and went out to shoot more today only to discover this issue. I was pissed because I just dropped 50 bucks on a brand new fast card just for video and I got some great footage.

Hello Sir, my camera shows same message. While I insert new card and factory reset, I can able to click 4 to 5 photos, later it showing same message. I just contacted the Nikon service centre, they said it’s problem of card reader, need to change the entire board. Model - D3100

i just had this kind of trouble with my d7200, idk man i just viewing my photos on my sd card then i shut down the camera, and for some reason i want to know if my second slot is already fill or not with sd card, so i open that sd tab and saw there are 2 sd card already, and then turn on the camera and boom, this kind of err message happen, now i might try your solution.

Oh FFS that's what it is! Usually I copy all the files off the SD card onto my HDD first before doing any editing but sometimes I pull the card out pop it in the computer and do a quick edit from the RAW file off the card and save the JPEG to my HDD but the editing program leaves a little file behind every time you edit a RAW image! I couldn't figure it out because I was sure to always safely eject the SD card when I was done and put it back into the camera. But it's literally just because that new file is on there? Wow Nikon why? Thanks for the video it solved this strange seemingly random issue I've been having for the last few months!

Guys sometimes if there is dust or minor particle in SD card slot.it is giving this error.
I just blew those particles away then bam it started to recognize again.
Please give it a try cleaning the SD card slot.

This may be 7 years later but my camera is having this problem I've removed all the files completely and reformatted to camera and it happened 20 minutes into taking pictures i haven't taken it out since i took all the files off

I have one card that always needs reinserting into the leica, but no hidden files or unexpected files anywhere, i think its just a corrupt card, i have had it a while so i guess it has deteriorated with age. Its really annoying though, as soon as i mount it on a tripod the errors come up, i think it could be related to stress due to being mounted on a tripod and the memory card slot being so close to the tripod bush. Well, im off out for a shoot, catch you later =) xxx
+Alexandra Starr (photographer) I never knew you had a Leica you snob :-P Yes like the old tapes there is just so many times they can be used, have you tried gently cleaning the exposed sensor on the card? Thats interesting about the tripod, does it work when not on the tripod, could be as you say putting pressure on the slot. My leica is one of those horrid rebadged panasonic bridge camera's, its the one i bought between owning my canon dslr's and the fuji, i thought i could live without interchangeable lenses, i was sooooO wrong lol it works intermittently, but mostly it refuses to do anything once the QR plate is in place! If Henri CB had my leica he would have missed most of those lovely shots he produced! Think the weekend here is going to be cold and windy so im off out again today with camera and speedlights, already went out on wednesday but im on a roll right now, so go with it i say lol have a fab weekend, hope its not too chilly over in Ireland xxx

This didn't work for me at all.......
The error message returned, seems to be when I capture movie. anyway the way to fix it, if this happens to you is to format the card with your PC, not the camera (tried it but kept getting the error message coming back). Do a FULL format, not the quick one that is ticked. Hope it helps, if not you could try updating the firmware from Nikon?!!
The file you deleted has zero connection to the issue which is why your issue came back. A person can try the full format but the issue may still come back as is either with a doggy card OR how you delete files etc directly from the card or if you edit your video files directly from the card so look for what I have shown in the video but I think you will find the issue will come back but keep me updated and thanks for sharing - Sean
yes i know that's why i updated. i've since used the camera for both photo and movie capture and i'm not getting the error message anymore. also i found that when i ejected the memory card from the pc, i right clicked and ejected that way...also worked for me!!

Have you tried what was said on the video guys? Have you tried to see if your firmware needs updated for the camera?

Try taking your card out and see if the switch on the side is locked? It may also be a dodgy card but in most cases the card could be locked OR the individual files are locked in the camera so try to see via your camera have you the images locked - Sean

The file I deleted was a NIKON001.DSC one and it wasn't in the DCIM file but next to it on the SD card. I deleted this and it got rid of that error message and I was able to use my Nikon D3100

okay i know some people have asked this, but i just got a nikon d3400 and brand new camera, brand new sandisk 32gb ultra plus sd card. i get the card may be damaged insert a new card error and i have tried to pull up the card on my mac, it comes up and there are no files that i can delete or see. it says that 2mb is being used but no files or anything will show up. ive tried erasing it using disk utility and then putting it into the camera to see if it will work, but i still get the same error message... please help
Hi Miranda I shoot a D3300 and I dont use a Mac so I am not sure what it can be but the fact you have only 2mb on the card makes me wonder what image size you have your camera on, as the basic setting on the 3400 one image is 4mb so I can not see how you can get 2mb on the card if you get my drift. What image size setting have you currently on the card, how many images are you showing in the back of the camera. Have you tried another card? If the images are just test shots with no value or importance, delete all the images and reformat the card. Set the camera file size on jpeg and shoot some images try the card again in the Mac. If this doesnt work after trying 2 cards get a card reader you can pick one for $5 and try that - Sean

Ok so question, I have had the same issues as Miranda. Same camera, but I have a 64 GB SD card. I bought the camera, opened the SD card, both brand new with no damage, put it in, and poof I get the error. If I play with the card, pop it in and out a bunch of times, blow in the slot, flip it on and off, eventually I can get the message to disappear. I have reformatted the SD card multiple times, I have checked for the boogieman file you are referring to, but again, brand new stick, brand new camera, so I dont have that file either. Once I get it working, it will sometimes work for a few shots, sometimes as long as I am shooting, but no matter what happens, when I turn it off, and step away from my camera for an extended period of time, it always starts up with the error again. Sometimes it can take me up to 15 minutes of dinking with the SD card to get it to read properly the next time around... Any suggestions, short of getting a new card (which I have tried) or taking the camera in to be looked at? -DJ St. John
Sadly Miranda never got back to let us know if she got it sorted hopefully she will, but in your case not sure from your last part of your comment if you actually tried another card and it also happened but I would try a brand new card man. If it still happens then its the camera, then return the camera as its still in warranty, if it doesn't happen with the new card then its the card man and I would return the card and also a copy of the receipt of the new purchased card for reimbersment of that also.
It is too hard to say where the fault lies, but something is clearly not right and as its a new card & camera there would be no dust etc so blowing should have no effect.
I would definitely try another card for a week and test the life out of it, if no issues then sounds like its a dodgy card (is the cards good makes) , if you get same issues with the new card then its the camera and return it.

Does using a crappy sd card can lead to "freezing" or "busy...please wait" issues. My canon 750D suddenly won't take photos anymore bc every time I take a shot it will stuck in BUSY and I can't stop it unless removing the batt to reset. ☹️ but it sometimes works but then suddenly back to the issue 😩😭 HELP PLEASE im so broke to have it fixed to somebody else. Video works perfectly btw. Dunno why 😞 v1.0.0 firmware
Using a crappy card is not advisable for the main reason, you are capturing images that you love only to store them and possibly lose to a crappy card. Cards nowadays are really affordable, I would suggest changing it just to see and also has your card been cleared yet, and tried with an empty card?
I liked your video...but i think my issue is more serious...i bought a new camera.... its more of a phyical issue than a card....

ANOTHER SOLUTION: I had the same problem, but found a different solution. If you delete a file when the SD card is plugged into your computer, you need to empty the trash before ejecting the card... at least if you use a Mac. If you forget and get the error message, you can pop your card back into your computer and then delete trash, eject, and the card should work in your camera again.
How do i recover even my phone and computer cant read it
use thrd party apps for recovering the photos. i use Stellar Photo Recovery and EaseUS Recovery. i format my memory card and let the software search for the photos. Sometimes, the file or image after being recovered gets corrupted mainly due to virus attack or other issues im not sure of. this has been my problem since for the last 3 months and i cant swap out my memory card or buy a new one since the memory card giving me all the issues is 256 Gb :-(

Ok attach your camera to your pc and take the photos and videos from your card via your use lead. Then when you have all your cards and videos off your card clear your card via the pc.Then disconnect the camera from the pc turn it on and then off and see if it works with an empty card but make sure your card is not set to read only there's a switch at the side of the card. If you still have problems reformat the blank card if this still doesn't work check for firmware updates for your camera if this doesn't work sounds like your camera could be broken :-( hope this helps

The issue I am finding is that during a sesison the card becomes corrupted and cannot be used, I can pop this in the PC and extract the photos all is good and nothing appears lost. My problem is what the hell caused it in the first place. tried multiple formats of differnent types and it still does it. Then I found somethign writting by DSLRbodies.com that talked about deleting files during a photo session and card space issues and fragmentation. So whats next, dont delete during a photo session and do deletetions on the PC later when taking photos off and clearing the card for next use, oh an always carry a couple of spare cards. Rambles with my camera I haven't taken any photos, I got my camera on the 19th( 2 days ago) and I got the error. I wiped off and then formatted 2 of my older cards and the error was still there. I got a new card and the error is still there.
Kenyah Dawson OK it is possible that it's the camera but it is more than likely the cards. You didn't mention if you followed the steps I mentioned in the video and also have you reformatted the cards? The new card is strange getting this message and your not able to take a photo if it happens again turn off yiur camera THEN take out and reinsert your card to see if ghost helps but if you have tried the above and still no joy I would take it back to the shop where you got the camera for them to replace the camera. If you can not visit the actual shop take the into another camera should and I'm sure they will be able to try the steps to test the camera. Good luck with this and keep me updated ❤Sean

Gaga4Real so when you take the photos/videos can this not show in the image review after you take the shot? If there is no images after you take a photo in the camera review and its not recording on the card it may be down to a corrupted card. To rule out its not your camera Try another card to rule out camera error if you have not already done this - Sean
Sean, its not my camera it is my sd card. I tried my other sd card it works fine. The corrupted card says it cannot be used and when I connect to the computer it shows no footage. I had videos and photos in that corrupted sd card. Do you know how I can fix it? Its a transcend 64gb card.
I would try to connect your camera to your pc/laptop directly with the usb lead provided with the camera and transfer the file that way fingers crossed it should work, then once your card is transferred reformat the card. Just rereading your comment i looks as though you are already trying this? if you have only tried getting the images directly from the camera via lead try a card reader dongle they are only about $4 Let me know if this works

When you are taking the files from the card to edit ghem are you taking them off the card PRIOR to editing?

Marvin have you worked on any of the images directly from the card rather than pulling them off the card and working them from a folder? Go into your card and open the folder with the images in and see if there anything other than jpeg/raw/mpeg images in that specific folder . If there is any other files inside that folder with your images in it this may be because you have edited images directly from the card and you can delete that file.
It may be a dodgy card, but check for any extra files in there and also make sure to eject the card from the pc/device.
Pull all the images of the card/back up the files, then delete your card and reformat and also DO NOT delete files from the back of the camera man this too can create an error on the card Sean
