So, you first wire the spokes together, and then solder them together? Is it possible to just solder the spokes together without wire or is that not going to last? I am going to try this on my mtb racing wheels but not really sure if im gonna use wire or not, probably i will. Great video btw, keep it up (even tho this is 5yrs old)
The result is a thin film of solder coating the wire. When done well it’s hard to distinguish between those that have been soldered and unsoldered wire wrap.
Hi BlackCat, I'm afraid I honestly don't know. I get this water soluble oil from the guy who blackens my spokes; he's happy to supply it to me but won't tell me what exactly it is.
Absolutely beautiful job mate
‘Appreciate that!
can you explained anything about this? im very interested in this kind of wheel building. heard that it help for stiffness and durability.
Hi! Thank you for the video. What type of wire did you use?
Hi Dima, I'm using a tinned copper wire. I've use tinned iron wire from DT Swiss in the past, and while it works well it does rust over time.
You can use soft stainless steel 316L.

Yes, the wire is essential. The wire does the work of binding the spokes together. The solder simply holds the wire in place.
@@jetbicyclewheels9612 Thats what i thought, thanks!
can you send a link for the wire tin that you use?
I use McMaster Carr part number 8771K44, tinned copper .016" (26 AWG). Holler if you have more questions.

Best upgrade for my bicycles collection! Or else I just break spokes and warp wheels
