Laura, I'm Polish that was living pretty close to Krosno ( it's a city in Poland). The piece that you have is pretty unusual in color as most of them were dark, white and between. They used to be " it" in the '80 and were kind of expensive back then. Mostly people were bringing them as a gift to the US. As a kid they took us to the Krosno factory from the school and I was fascinated what you can do with a glass. Fascination with glass and become a glass artist went away, once I learn how dangerous it is. Those artists are dying at a very young age because they develop problems with their lungs from blowing the Christmas ornaments, etc. I'm still an artist, but the glass thing...I said no to that. Thank you for your positive videos and the knowledge that you are sharing. I always learn something new, even that I thought when I was 12, that I'm the smartest navel of the world. LOL. To old to denying that there is always something new to learn! Hello from Illinois!

That is terrible about what it does to their lungs 💔 I grew up in/worked in the stone industry and the health issues from breathing granite and marble dust is terrifying now that they know how dangerous it is 🥺 I hope they have found ways and implemented safety into glass art blowing to keep the artisans safe ❤️ Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!

Like the shutter doors as well. To the tippy top is a great idea but wondering if they may appear better if you place the hinges on the inside of your pantry area instead of. In your kitchen. It will make the area appear more roomy with the open threshold in the pantry doorway to go through. Just some thoughts. So jealous you have such great options to shop!

Wondering if the doorway couldn’t be framed with wood inside to bring the space into the right size for the big olds and perhaps even add a frame around the exterior of that space to cozy it up?

Here is possibly an odd idea for your pantry doors. What would you think about putting them INSIDE the doorway opening? That way they could open into the pantry and wouldn't interfere with the exterior door's opening. You could easily raise them 2-3 inches, but hang them INSIDE the doorway frame. I think the offset would allow for a good visual transition between the two types of wood and not have them competing with each other. Certainly worth considering, or at least trying them out that way. I know it's not the regular way to set in doors, but it might look very cool. Wonderful video, and I'm always amazed at what your thrift stores offer up. Incroyable!

    • @robinmp8300
      @robinmp8300 ปีที่แล้ว +4

only problem with that is unless you flip the hinges, the shutter bar will be on the opposite side, ya you would have to change those, it may not work inside if she has a light switch there also.

I also want to give a shout out to Earth Breeze laundry soap. I’ve been using this product for over a year and given several packs to friends and relatives. No one is paying me for this, I just love this product so much and I was thrilled to see Laura promoting it. It cleans really well and it’s totally true that you can adjust how often it’s mailed to you very simply on their website. Yeah to less plastic. Thanks Laura!!

I think it's a good idea to have doors on the pantry. It's the 'messy' space where all the ugly packaging and small appliances live. People always have good intentions about having a beautiful pantry and decanting all their foods into pretty containers and keeping ugly mixers etc tucked away but in reality it's just too hard to maintain and even the most organized pantry turns chaotic every now and then - especially if you're entertaining! The mixed wood tones work great and I think it's a good idea to lift the doors and have a gap at the bottom because that's going to make cleaning the floor easier if there's enough space to get a swifter underneath.

I love the repurposed shutter doors for your kitchen! The best interior designers say don't make things "matchy matchy" so you are fine with combining wood tones. Plus it expresses your more eclectic style! Having the doors raised a bit from the bottom will help when you are sweeping and mopping the floor.

Search out carved african animals for decorating by african artists, and start collecting different types of grasses for staging your animals. Think out side of the box and pick up some small british tea cups to further your collection.

With your shutter saloon doors…it would look great it you hung them at the same height as your new front door that is being made. If there is still a gap, you can add a strip of wood above the saloon doors, and color match it with stain to get the same symmetry lines with the main door.
Since there is a gap between the saloon doors, you could do a similar effect by adding a piece of color-matched stain wood in between the gap, and down bellow, if that is the look that you are going for.
Great find at Habitat for Humanity! I have one of those stores about 30 minutes away from my home. I always find great stuff there. Your Habitat is much more organized than our store….but no complaints here…it’s awesome that a company like theirs exists!

Or cut long wood piece that might be carved or distressed. Or add leftover tile on long piece of wood topper for the header. Add mosaic pieces in place of the tile. Or organic found items as driftwood or found objects on the piece of wood that fills in that gap 🫠🙂🤗

If you keep the shutters, I wouldn't raise them. Instead, I'd add the same type of trim on top that's around the shutters by the front door (I'd also add the trim on the sides). You can buy those at home improvement stores and stain them any color (of course you'd want to stain them the color of the shutters). But, for me, I'd just make the pantry look so awesome that you'd want to be able to see inside it. So, no shutters for me. I'm sure it'll look great whatever you do.

Hi Laura ,greetings from Perth Western Australia.
The shutters are great for the pantry.
With the louvres you could open or close it without having to actually close or open the doors.
During summer things could get a bit warm in an closed room.
Thus opening the louvres will help with air circulation.
Size wise, you could ask the guy who is fixing the kitchen door to add additional trim to the louvres to make it look complete..
    That's my idea.
BTW I love shutters .all my windows in the house has shutters. They are pricey but worth it.❤👍

I'm fabric-minded...for dresser or desk cover with glass(plexaglass).
    Nothing bad about upholstery tack.

Go shutters! I think the different wood hues are interesting enough and pull the items throughout your kitchen together. So fun and better than all the stuff in your pantry being a focus! (Unless you put cabinet doors on the shelving…)

I love natural wood too. I think I would move them up and have a space at the bottom.

Love the African animal art. Also the glass blown chicken! I 100% would have picked that up. The monk is beautiful, I love all the wood pieces you pick up and sterling Jewelry pieces.

I think lift the doors up and leave the gap on the bottom. I like the doors.

I think the shutters need to be moved up…let the gap be at the bottom. When you have a lighter (blonde) door, it will “mirror” what happens at your front door…very cool!!

The shutter doors will be constantly in the way of the outside door. The first time the door knob smacks them, it will scratch or poke a hole.

You need the bifold doors on the pantry! Leave one open when in use.
