This game is so gloomy, especially this level, I can't say if they ever intended that or is just my view on it. I've recently replayed this and had the same feeling. Amazing soundtrack, one of the best games I've ever played.
You're not the only one thinking that. It is in fact gloomy, but that makes it even better. The modern Nintendo games are always so squeaky clean mixed with a hand full of bugs
Nuclear-Skull87 That's ironic that you just replied because I finally beat this game last night :D All I had left to do was put in the Nintendo and Rareware coins and beat the final boss.
I still have my N64, and I still play this game... a lot. Anyways, to me this game will NEVER die. I believe this was my first video game now that I think about it. ^_^
Same here! (Mom did have a Sega Game Gear with Sonic games, no audio, and I had played that before this game; but this by far is WAY better!! First game that was actually mine; it was my undisputed favorite, until I played Banjo-Tooie (my new favorite; the interconnected levels is just brilliant!!))
DK64 is my favorite game of all time. I remember that back in '99 my cousin got it the day it came out, and I distinctly remember playing it for the first time. It was only the third game I ever played (the first 2 were Zelda OOT and Mario Kart). That christmas I got an N64 with this game. It's still very dear to me, and after nine years I still play it. I have since gotten all 201 bananas... Yet to this day I play it. This is my favorite DK64 song, and favorite game song in general. Okay!
This level was such a cool concept. And the music was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO perfect for the level. Just listening to music gives images. Just like Wagner's liet motifs
The creepiest game level as a kid was possibly the well/ Shadow Temple in OoT, followed by the haunted house in Mario 64. Ikana Valley in Majora's Mask was very scary as well.
Probably my favorite song from this game with second being Mad Jack. I love the wind up sound effects and the whirling of gears you can hear in the music boxes. Not so much a frantic factory but more of a Fear Factory.
The freakiest shit that could happen. You're chilling with friends, eating shrooms, and eventually this plays out of nowhere. So you guys just go on an adventure to go find the source. You find nothing, but then...you guys turn around and there's a clown-like thing on the corner of the ceiling with his head twisting around to the sound of the crank-toy, just staring at you guys. derp
Ahaha sounds Cliché! Like something you've seen ten thousand times in teen movies! ...But I remember 8-years-old me, shitting in my pants because of the boss of this creepy level!
SO. MUCH. NOSTALGIA (probably spelled it wrong) but I used to play this game nonstop when I was only like 5,6,7 years old, and I never realized it until now, 9 years later
It toataly was my favorite N64 game of all time. My love for Nintendos games have grown only because of this masterpiece and my Mario 64, which also is a great game.
This song has some hidden depth to it. The winding of the music box and the whirring of its motor, they are present whenever the music box returns. Until the last arguably creepiest time it returns, as if the box came to life on its own
This is one of my favorite levels ever. It's been built so perfectly. The soundtrack is fantastic, from the eerie music-box song, to the frantic noise of the Machine at the very bottom, to Mad Jack's psychotic laughter. The gameplay is challenging, but not difficult, with lots of alternative quests and an element of exploration. It's a brilliant mixture of creepiness and humor that really does put you in the mind of a toy escaping from the factory. 10/10.
Hearing this music almost makes me cry in wishing that I could go back in time and re-live the N64 days again. This game and many others were such a huge part of my childhood. And they were so good, and the music is so amazing. Why can't the games of today be like this? :( *cries*
I love the subtle tick tock during the chorus, and the winding up for the hum of a toy for a few seconds. This theme is brilliantly composed. Even by today's standards.
this was the most creepy level on dk 64... and yet it was still my favorite!!!! that music, the robots, the living toys, the machines and the boss scared me a lot as a little kid... lol
Its February the 4th 2023 oo:o8 am Im standing on a hill (Deile) near a Forest in my Hometown The moon is super bright and i am scared! This song is playing in my mind!
He's not a clown, he's a psychotic murderous Jack-in-the-Box who, when "unfurled", is about the size of a one-story apartment building, head to bottom.
I have to say. The Nintendo 64 is 100 times better than all the new systems. And the games where so simple yet diverse, so amazing and entertaining, so breath taking and memory making.
I used to like watching my brother play N64 games, I would have fun watching him and was never bored. Frantic Factory was one of my favorite worlds. Ugh, I need to get a N64 ):
they need to put this on the Wii's virtual console. NOW. i can tell they've done N64 games before; my friend has Ocarina of Time on his Wii. MAD JACK FTW!
I like how the song starts up like the musician is winding up a music box and then it plays. Very appropriate choice for atmosphere.

The game feels very murder. I don't know how else to describe it.
@@Tonjit41 My style
To be fair, this is a game where K. Rool is literally inches away from blowing everyone up to kingdom come lol
Feel like alot of n64 games are very gloomy and creepy. Like mario 64 feels so creepy too especially wet dry world.
I love how the haunt level is goofy and the toy level in nightmare inducing.
This music combined with the frantic factory level design made it my favorite level of the game. I wonder how it would’ve fit with creepy castle
I found frantic factory way creepier
@@SamsarasArt I had to turn off the game when I came to the boss as a kid
You can tell how good a game is/was if your still humming the songs years after you first played it, and i've never forgotten these songs.
you were so right
I literally was thinking of this song today at work. It’s crazy how surreal video games/media from the past impacts your existence…

Undoubtedly one of the best songs in video game history.
I think as a kid this was the scariest game...that wasn't meant to be scary
Yeah, this was just unintentionally was a survival-horror game!

Creepy castle as a kid was scary, and now im 16 I think about it and a lot of things have pretty scary meanings behind it
I can't help but to agree bro!
