Commissioner here, yet again! Love this even more than the instrumental version. The two really help embody all sides of two of my favorite manga characters ever, the tired and worn down warriors traumatized by their pasts and loss, the repressed rage that they give into in battle with the risk of losing everything, and the genuine sense of hope that comes in the best of times for those they love, even with the unrelenting cruelty of the world. Keeps getting better as the song goes on, and it ends with an absolutely beautiful finale. Thanks again to Brandon, Igiko, and Logan!

Well....this is a heavily unexpected early Christmas gift.
Awakened sacrifice with both Logan and Giko in the same track of two of my all time favorite characters. And the lyrics fit perfectly for the two.
I'm genuinely amazed. Not much else I can say.
Berserks one of my favorite anime/Manga and I just started watching Claymore.... THIS was the matchup we should have had, these two characters share so many parallels and I LOVE IT

Brandon, Congrats, you actually did it, you topped My Other Self for me. Which is honestly impressive, considering how much I relate to that song due to it talking about how the things we enjoy are an illusion to escape the cruel truth of reality but this? This is a masterpiece. It's basically an entire story in a song, and it describes both characters perfectly. And God, The Track Art, Seeing the Angels Above The Berserker Armor has so much symbolism for guts, that even though his past is Pitch Black, He is still a good person at heart, Bravo. You've earned it for this one.

If Guts VS Clare is going to happen, they might do a shortened version of this song, since most of the recent fights are around 3-4 minutes (more than or less than). Plus, it would be nice if it was renamed "Berserker's Awakening" with Logan Adams and Lady Igiko reprising their roles (Logan portrays Guts and Igiko portrays Clare).

I loved the original but logan and lady Igiko have brought it to the next level I love it even more!
Ah and screw it, I keep telling myself that I'm too late to make a review of it but it's such a wonderful song that I'm still gonna do it.
So I actually hadn't considered that this song would get a vocal version, and boy was I surprised when I listened to it and it quickly became one of my favorite vocal commissions ever.
As to why it became as much ? Well it's gonna be a long text so you might as well take some snacks and drinks while you're at it.
First thing that I'll note is just how this song with the lyrics added to it is not as much as a song *for* a battle as it *is* the battle itself. What I meant by that is that, unlike other tracks, this song doesn't sound like it was made to fit into a theoretical animation but instead directly tells a story with its lyrics. It's kinda like those mythical songs about heroes and the like where a story is told in its lyrics and it's told even as a "myth" or "legend" in a fantasy world's tavern. And damn is that story here tragic.
The fact that it first begins with each singer/character reiterating the same few lines, already signifying that both of them have a lot of similarities while also working as a sort of "introduction" to before they'd first engage.
Only after this do we get each characters' first verse which serves as their true introduction before they know each other. And, as someone who hasn't watched/read Claymore (yet) nor did I read Berserk, those two verses do a perfect job at presenting both of their personalities. Clare appears as a battle-scarred character that still feels a lot of pride (especially notable with her last line) and pushes on despite her past (and future) hardships while Guts seems more "done" with everything, passing off more so as "this is just another day" for him where he has to kill yet another person while pushing back his personal problems away (notable with the secondary, infinitely more agressive voice that is heard on some lines of that verse).
Those two first verses showcase each characters' personalities wonderfully and how they'd react to one another before engaging in their fight, which also plays in conjunction with the "story being told" thing where this viewpoint they share for one another changes as the fight goes on.
Then we get to the true fight as both characters fully square up to each other at 2:07 and the battle engages, the lyrics counting how it goes with something to note being that, while Guts only has his "normal" voice in here, Clare has a combination of both her "normal" and the "violent" voice (yeah I suck at naming stuff) which I assume would hint at a possible lesser control of her emotions than what Guts has ? The final line of this verse also forwards the fact that both start to connect through their fighting, referencing to it as a "dance".
This is then directly followed with the main chorus of the song where both characters fully realize their similarities through their fighting as both characters duet for it.
This first chorus is then followed with a much darker verse where both characters, being pushed further than they'd have originally thought which forces them to unleash the, well, darker parts of themselves (Berserker armor for Guts and Clare's own "alter ego" form that I don't know the specificities of) as clearly signified by the fact that only the "violent" voices of both characters are present here and the fact that it's directly told how they both are "falling into darkness".
But, unlike with other fictional medias where this "power up" for both characters would be seen as a good thing, here it switches right back to something much more tragic and calm as the fight is still going on and the two are (possibly literally) tearing each other apart but the song reflects how tragic this is that two heroic and tortured people are killing one another.
This is completed by the next verse where both characters identify with the other, fully realizing how both of them have faced tragic stories as the two engage in the first full duet that wasn't the chorus only to follow through with the repetition of the chorus, much calmer than the first apparition of it as the two would reach their breaking point before they'd give one last push to end it all at the second, much more intense repetition of the chorus and then finally completing the song with a final verse in front of the chorus that replays again where both are in perfect harmony, Guts making the primary lyrics while Clare does the background voices. The fact that the chorus still plays in the background is probably to signify that, despite their clear connection, both are still fighting in this "dance of fate" that'll end up with one of them dead in the end despite all of each one's efforts. But it's still clearly overshadowed by the verse, showing that, even if one of them dies in the end, both have come to peace with this and, regardless of who dies in the end, both are fine to conclude this story of their against a foe such as the other.
This finality shows this even more as, supposedly after one of the two has finally crumbled to their wounds, they still sing the chorus one last time in a duet of perfect harmony, showing that, whoever died, the other still respects them.
Overall if I'm to talk about pure sound, this one is probably slightly surpassed by Symbol of Hope's vocal version. But in terms of lyrical writing and storytelling ? Awakened Sacrifice is not only the best Death Battle/Commission song out there, but also one of the best cases of musical storytelling I've ever heard. And by writing this I'm sure I didn't even do the thing total justice because of how good it is. I probably missed so much due to not knowing either character well enough and/or not having enough musical knowledge. Where Awakened Sacrifice's original version was great, the vocal version took everything and added to it to reach borderline perfection. I know I've said it numerous times by now, but this is by far one of your best works and of course the vocalists also did a more than amazing work there, you can really hear both singers' dedication to the song, truly making each character's personality and emotions stand out. I generally say that those songs are amazing works, but this right here is, and I barely exaggerate when saying it, a true masterpiece. Thanks for making this.

- Both are from series set in fictional medieval lands plagued by shapeshifting monsters.
- Both are wielders of oversized swords and are extremely proficient in killing monsters that initially seem way out of their league.
- Both were orphaned at a young age and had rough childhoods involving dead parents and being sexually abused until they found companionship with renowned warriors (Guts being accepted into the Band of the Hawk (the most feared mercenary group in the Kingdom of Midland), and Clare got adopted by Teresa (the former First-ranked Claymore warrior)).
- Their brief period of happiness was ruined when an individual betrayed their comrades, (Griffith/Priscilla). traded their humanity for power, and killed the protagonists' loved ones (casca/teresa)
- Both were initially motivated by vengeance, seeking to kill the monster who took everything from them.
- Both had one of their arms cut off, but it got replaced with an upgrade (Guts’ cannon/crossbow arm/Clare received Irene's arm/quicksword technique).
- Both spend a good portion of the story protecting a hapless love interest (Post-Eclipse Casca/Pre-Timeskip Raki).
- Both have the inherit ability to sense when danger is approaching (Guts’ brand of sacrifice bleeds whenever demons are around, and Clare has the ability to sense/read the flow of Yoki in opponents and predict their movement).
- Both are one of the few survivors of a battle with an army of transforming monsters (if you can call the Eclipse sacrifice a ‘battle’) that take place right before an important time skip in the manga. After said battle, the survivors built a memorial grave with swords to mark their fallen comrades.
- Both run the risk of overexerting themselves and going berserk in their "super modes" which grant them more power at the expense of their motor cognition and sanity (Guts’ Berserker Armor will eventually overtake his psyche if he uses it too much/Clare's half-yoma physiology means she'll transform into an awakened being if too much of her Yoki energy is exerted), though they've been able to break out of the state of madness (both Schierke and Moonlight Boy can suppress the armor's od and allow Guts to take conscious control of himself/Clare's friends were successfully able to halt and reverse her monstrous transformation more than once).
- Both started off as bleak and unapproachable characters with a loner mentality (likely due to refraining from forming any more attachments to others after losing their closest companions), but along their journeys they open up to their allies and come to appreciate the bonds they make with them and finds themselves grateful for having their individual strengths to rely on.
- Contrasts: Guts wears full black and is heavily linked with a dark coloured demonic beast, Clare wears all white and is symbolized/named after an angelic goddess.
- Meta Connection: Claymore was inspired off of Berserk.

Even if it's unfortunately a stomp in Clare's favor. Guts is damn impressive, but Claymore scaling gets fucking nuts by the end of it. As much as I love my man Guts, he's not winning this one.
@@Roost-xr3lc I agree. Plus, Guts' Berserker Armor can damage his body the further he fights with it. He may had been holding against his own against monsters leagues beyond him, but against Clare, he has no means of putting her down easily.
@Project_STEELBLADE She's also insanely fast. Guts could barely keep up with Rosine breaking the sound barrier and could somewhat time lightning. Impressive, yes. But Clare is able to move so fasts she looks like she's teleporter, even to already insanely fast characters like Miria, who's whole thing is moving so fast she looks like she's teleporting. Not to mention, her slashing speed with Quick Sword is so fast that she turns her opponents into mince meat before they even realise she's drawn her sword. Ilena, the person who taught her Quick Sword, was able to slash so fast that her deflecting Ophellia's strikes looked like she had a force field around her. Ophellia was so fast that she looked like she was teleporting, and Clare surpassed Ilena in using the technique by the end of the series. Not to mention her strength, durability, regeneration, and technique. Clare's stats are cracked, it's not even funny. That's not even mentioning being able to awaken Theresa, who's literally the top character in the verse.
@@Roost-xr3lc needless to say, Guts' sheer willpower isn't enough and would desperately use the Berserker armor, which can do more damage to his own body than what he would deal to Clare with his Dragonslayer. People who say Guts wins through sheer willpower are clearly overestimating him.
Honestly, I'm no math guy, but Clare is clearly leagues above Guts.
Count me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Guts loses all of his best matchups. Which is.. kind of depressing considering how much the guy goes through.
