love the video, however, to measure the distance from Heizo's position to the ground, wouldn't any quest marker give the amount of distance from your current position to the quest location? Using this you could discover if the distance would increase or not. Regardless, this was very entertaining to watch.
Amazing video as always! I think you might not get the record from Teyvat Times, though. Fobm4ster actually took advantage of the temporary chasm elevators glitch back in September and went up to the sky for a long time (~5.6 million meters) before plunging at the end. The plunge alone took more than 40 hours!
As you mentioned, there is a "zero coordinate" from which all placement calculations are derived. As for the specifics of the glitching visuals, I'd presume it's actor-attached assets. These are things that are often or dynamically changed or adjusted, so to save on resources swapping out entire polygon meshes, certain parts are attached to the model as separate "pieces". This boils down mostly to faces, as the face textures are switched frequently as part of character expressions. The artifact icons are in the same boat, as their position is aligned along the character model at a certain height. Now, just like you noted, when the coordinates get too high in numerical value, the engine (or hardware) will struggle to accurately calculate position relations in real time. As a result, the textures and sprites... shift back and forth as the engine attempts to update their relative position. As for the "objects" mentioned, those are effects, which are generated through 2D spritesheets, among other means. But these spritesheets can be very weirdly sorted, and so, the pieces of the effect are misaligned, and result in these often block-y glitch visuals. A very easy comparison would be map glitches in Super Mario World, though the cause is different, it's a very similar idea. Generally speaking, it's fair to assume that the game has no map limit, as that would need to be put in the game, but since nobody would ever realistically reach such heights, it would be a waste of resources to keep track a "max coordinate" and your distance to it.
It's kind of mind-boggling no one's called you out on this. The reason the characters are freaking has to do a floating point number. Basically it's a rounding error. Floating points are relatively accurate up to some point. Floating point math is silly and I'm not going to attempt to explain it in the comments section. Well you did mention the origin point. It has nothing to do with computational power. It has everything to do with accuracy.
Would be very interesting to go very far off the map in all 3 coordinates (up, and both horizontal directions at once) but you would have to somehow find out the coordinates first. That would really mess up and distort the characters even more
Am pretty sure the problem there is getting the speed, not coordinates, you can just assume coordinates, if you're really dedicated am pretty sure you can actually calculate where 0,0,0 is based on the time it takes if you're going slow enough since the brokenness of the characters increases with each decimal replaced with a full number
@@tomikun8057 0, 0 is either in the middle of liyue because quest markers keep glitching to there, or middle of mondstadt because the interactive map coordinates are 0, 0 at mondstadt. You can find the exact position of the character by clicking the feedback button in the paimon menu and checking the URL text for the position data. You can see the numbers there but it's more clear if you do a URL decode of the text. If you are increasing altitude at constant speed eventually that speed would not be large enough to jump up from one floating point value to the next consecutive value and you stop gaining altitude. You might not be able to fall from that height if the fall speed is too slow.

Love the video!! I like the point you made on the (0, 0, 0) thing because I think it’s losing accuracy because it’s hitting the Maximum value of whatever program(s) Genshin runs on (Python, Java (gag), C++, etc.). So I believe the limbs of the models are loaded into the game relative to that origin point (so the head is x amount of pixels above the torso) and when the coords hit the max num it freaks out. I have a pretty basic understanding of Python and an even basic-er understanding of Java so I might be wrong but hey!!
The player's position is a floating point number. Floating point numbers are split into three parts: a sign bit (positive/negative), an exponent, and a mantissa. When you get too far from the origin, the exponent becomes large, and the mantissa can only represent so many values, leading to the distance between the resulting floating point number having large gaps in between each value. The effect becomes more easy to visualize on certain idle animations, in particular Raiden and Mona. It's vaguely like a grid where the grid lines end up being moved further and further apart (not in actuality though, that's an oversimplification). Floating point numbers are better at representing very small values (closer to zero), as the smaller exponent leads to the difference between the resulting values between each number being so small that they aren't noticeable graphically.
More interesting things happen higher. At the 32-bit integer limit, other models suffer and edges start becoming blur. Halfway to the double-precision limit, colors start to die off, and hard limit is ~100K off the double-precision limit. But then at that point past somewhere, your coordinates become NaN. This also applies with x,z coordinates. Warp and distortion becomes more crazy when your (x, y, z) coordinates are large too. If you meddle with Genshin's ping, the negative y-values will show stuff too: > below -500 or so, with the no-fog glitch, you can see the land above you segment into large grids. > below that, the land will eventually become flat. > skybox will change from (whatever weather it was) to the default.
Seeing the character's appearance morph unexpectedly reminds me of the anime Made In Abyss where the curse inside the abyss can alter a person's body completely (or even death) if they try to ascend out of it. ...Perhaps this could be a subtle hint to a possibility that everyone in Teyvat is unknowingly trapped inside something else. Of course, it could also just be me going over my head with this but hey, all we can do at the moment is speculate until the answers are revealed.
the character models reminded me of snap mode from yandere simulator for some reason great video! i always enjoy seeing you break the game because i don't have the time or energy to try for myself lol
Imagine being Moosashi's editor (if he has one) and you get the video file for this, it would have to be about 60 hours long (taking into account preperation, looking at the character and weapons archive aswell as both rises and falls) without knowing what the video was supposed to be about. If I was them, I would probably start crying.
I'm sure you've probably seen it somewhere? But a very long time ago, about a few years ago, people were able to reach the opening loading screen, with the loading stone pathway in the sky before the door loads to start the game. It's apparently way up above Venti's Giant Winged Statue in the middle of Mondstadt in front of the church. If you reach it, you'll see that Lumine's, Aether's, Paimon's and even the Unknown God, Asmoday's character models are all still there frozen in place, with her stopping both Lumine's and Aether's swords, as is what happens at the very start of the game. It's odd, too because Paimon's character model is right beside the Unknown God's character model, which lead people to believe that they're the same person, since in the games opening cutscene, we never see nor meet Paimon. We only see and meet Lumine, Aether and the Unknown God, Asmoday. I'm curious to see if *you* can somehow *find* and or *see* this area for yourself using this launch glitch somehow. I'm just curious if it still exists now, years later. I'm a console player and I can't do this glitch myself and those that have glitched way above Venti's Giant Winged Statue in Mondstadt, were playing on either PC or Mobile. Since you are the *Glitch God* I'm curious to see if you can find them? 🙃
I've heard about this a few times, with varying details of its location and contents, over the years. My conclusion is that it has always been faked via mods or other such methods. Floating Point Precision Error, which is shown and discussed in this video, also points to this being impossible; because if it were actually that high up within the overworld map, then the models would not render correctly.
@@Moosashi Yes, very true. Or it was something that existed when the game very *first launched* and was removed later (patched out). It could also be that it wasn't that high up, but existed high enough to where you couldn't visibly see it, but it was there. And due to people reaching the said starting area of the game when they weren't supposed to, it was removed/patched like many other things once they've been exposed online through video's. It's whatever though lol There's a lot of hidden things in Genshin and not everything is reachable, obtainable or even achievable. Also like you said, people like to create rumors and fake theories in Genshin all the time. So it could've very well have been a fake Celestia that someone *modded* in to the game and then added the in-game character render files themselves and put them all there to make it look like they've always been there from the start. So yeah, it's very true that it could've been all made up to gain attention, since people want this kind of stuff and crave it and search for it endlessly. However, thanks for taking the time to respond to me though! 🙃😇
Well it seems beyond the fake sky is a dark abyss and a destroyed Teyvat-like world or moon. It could be that we've seen was a world that was completely destroyed by the Abyss.
Heizou's face on 2:40 is so funny to me for some reason I can'ttt 😂😭 he looks like he's seen some sh*t..... such a painstaking work, Moosashi! love your channel 🥹🫰🏼
The fact that the animals DIDN'T corrupt is interesting to me. Since all other models glitch and warp at that height, be it characters, objects, or even background sprites, the animals having no issue implies that their code is significantly different in that their zero point isn't obscenely large. Since the warping at an extreme height would imply most zero points are based off of a static y-value, the animals likely have a dynamic zero point-value instead, that stays relative to the animal itself.
Yeah, it's intriguing. The only change with animals I saw was the birds on the Ruin Guard model being above the Ruin Guard. But they weren't distorted, and it's likely they were off because of distortion on the Ruin Guard.

Hey there, Moosashi :) Great video, it was really interesting to see what would happen if you were to break the sky barrier. Just a quick request: Could you perhaps make a short video, where you open your wind glider in time and see what happens if you actually pass through Celestia, please? Because in your "Finally reaching Celestia" video, you came very close, but didn't actually pass through the model :)
And what if when they say "The sky of Teyvat are fake" is because you are in a simulation and you got to the peak when you start to stagger, yet depending of the time, the program starts to add more 'distance' when you fall, after too much time, the program is overloading, creating this glitches which to us doesn't seem too out of the ordinary yet, if they try to, they would feel a ton of pain, most if not all of them passing out and falling down. There are no stars, just an infinite, looping skybox with no end or eventual point.
Instead of playing the game like a normal human being.. We love the computer nerd to break the game and learning the science behind it as to what actually happens behind the actual game. I love this video! ! 😍
In Kerbal space program there was a similar glitch. Flying over 100 lightyears (by using a glitch, it only have technology what we currently have) away then going back to Earth while the referrence is still the distant spaceship resulted in an even more broken things. At one point it became so inaccurate that the planet become fully flat (it is a space simulator so it is round by default even when on the ground), but in the vertical axis. The charaters glithing so much that they are not even recognizable spaghettified limbs detached half a meter awayfrom the rest, and dificulty to even stay on screen. Couldn't figure out where anything is so it mixed up Earth and the Sun and put the launch pad on the Sun (also it didn't exploded for some reason, probably not checking for heat before making any actions). Also similarly difficulties with circles as the planets orbits almost becomes a square. It was a fun time, but when I tried it recently it just crashed the game.
floating point numbers are a side effect of trying to make digital memory store very precise and very large numbers in limited memory space, the basics of it is that at low values it goes down quite a few digits below the decimal point, but as you go further from center it periodically increases the gap between values to adjust for the memory space being taken, this isnt noticable within normal bounds of ANYTHING, but past a certain point it starts skipping whole numbers instead of just decimals and then multiple whole numbers and just getting worse
thank you so much for this video, i would love to hear more about floating point precision! in general if you ever had some more technical stuff about genshin or games in general that would be super cool i think :D
That's a shame that they fixed the elevator glitch. Having it, it'd save you so much time. I saw a 30-hour plunge performed with this glitch and it took like only 5 hours to ascend.
Meh, still works Also if I didn't reply anymore, just know that sometimes TH-cam didn't give you notifications when someone reply a normal day on youtube
There is one oddity I've observed from all of this. First time. You ascended for 10h. You fell for just about 1.5 h. Second time. You ascended for 36 h. By right, if the ascending speed was constant, you should have called for 3.6 times as long, which would be 5.4 h. Meanwhile, you actually fell for 8.2 h, which is another factor of 1.5 Which means your ascension speed accelerated, either at a certain point abruptly, or over time continuously. And a factor of 1.5 is pretty significant in such a case. Any idea of how that's happening? Maybe the lowered accuracy of the FLOPs even influenced the ascension speed who knows.
From my experimations of NPC launching up me in the sky, I determined that terminal velocity is 30 m/s. Because at such height lag is inevitable, I can only say the height on high end and it's 888720 m or 888.72 km. That means that Heizou reached Exosphere (With lower boundary being either 500 km or 700 km according to different sources). No wonder he would look like that!

If you meddle with Genshin's ping, the negative y-values will show stuff too:
> below -500 or so, with the no-fog glitch, you can see the land above you segment into large grids.
> below that, the land will eventually become flat.
> skybox will change from (whatever weather it was) to the default.
It’s so funny how the music in 8:55 goes with the transformation of collie
Haha, so someone finally noticed! The details are important!
Why can't scaramouche tell us now? Why doesn't nahida ask how traveler knew how scaramouche tried to erase himself? 🤔
Nahida knows that traveller isn't from Teyvat and that Irminsul cannot affect him.
my condolences to your computer. rest in peace
Of course, it could also just be me going over my head with this but hey, all we can do at the moment is speculate until the answers are revealed.
the character models reminded me of snap mode from yandere simulator for some reason
great video! i always enjoy seeing you break the game because i don't have the time or energy to try for myself lol
“If i cant have you,Then no one can.”
the effects of the null zone looks so interesting on the character models! the shaking of f the flat textures is actually pretty cool!
This sounds like something that would be in the actual game canonly.
Well it seems beyond the fake sky is a dark abyss and a destroyed Teyvat-like world or moon. It could be that we've seen was a world that was completely destroyed by the Abyss.
Prolly a moon, the three moon sisters, the crimson moon, the normal moon, and the new broken moon outside the fake reality
Good video! But I think you could've also tracked distance to a custom waypoint while ascending. Oh well, we'll have to wait for a new glitch
well! You cracked it before it was revealed
Theory: the sky is a literal skybox
that was so scary 😭😭😭😭😭 extremely fascinating, though! thanks for the vid ^^
Heizou's face on 2:40 is so funny to me for some reason I can'ttt 😂😭 he looks like he's seen some sh*t..... such a painstaking work, Moosashi! love your channel 🥹🫰🏼
he saw yae’s tails
Death Stare Xingqiu has gotten more allies since the post to break the SKY
Now this is the true “playing Genshin at 3 a.m.”
it’s midnight and i’m laughing my ass off 😭😭
I love floating point truncation, is my favorite thing in all of gaming
8:55 This was... an interesting coincidence with the music...
...I'm not getting any sleep tonight am I?

Tragic and Rhymey
5:53 Oh jesus that's terrifying oml I'm in fear aaAAAAA-
HIS FACE FELL OFF AAAA-
Ah yes, floating point precision errors, a classic
amazing detective work, moosashi. thank you.
Welp this was terrifying
In Heizou we trust to find the truth of this world
This is how our main character was a star thruout a glazzing sky
Seems the Teyvat Space program is going well. Celestia can't do shit to stop it.
I love how the "I pulled a qiqi" song is playing as he descends TT
It's a literal Liyue soundtrack, 'I pulled a Qiqi' song used that soundtrack, and just put the lyrics there.
"The sky is the limit"
So that was a lie.
Instead of playing the game like a normal human being.. We love the computer nerd to break the game and learning the science behind it as to what actually happens behind the actual game. I love this video! ! 😍
scary heights beyond mortal reach.
the character models going nuts really reminded me of Doki Doki Literature Club, someone must have added Monika to the game
Heizou after this video: *"I'VE BEEN FALLING FOR 30 MINUTES (8HRS)"*
Imagine doing this as some sort of wishing ritual
floating point numbers are a side effect of trying to make digital memory store very precise and very large numbers in limited memory space, the basics of it is that at low values it goes down quite a few digits below the decimal point, but as you go further from center it periodically increases the gap between values to adjust for the memory space being taken, this isnt noticable within normal bounds of ANYTHING, but past a certain point it starts skipping whole numbers instead of just decimals and then multiple whole numbers and just getting worse
I'm watching this at my unis library and I'm in the quiet area and i'm trying very hard to not audibly laugh when seeing those character models
Bruh you could've made a pin on the map and navigate to it, so it'll show the exact distance you were from the ground when in the sky
thank you so much for this video, i would love to hear more about floating point precision! in general if you ever had some more technical stuff about genshin or games in general that would be super cool i think :D
It's more impressive that your recording device had enough storage to save all of your footage.
Love the videos and streams ,they are so fun (and silly sometimes), and i can’t wait to see the next traveler-san video when it releases!
Heizou is sooo fine- 6:04 WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY BOY XD. Mom I'm scared!! That aside, this is amazing!
That's a shame that they fixed the elevator glitch. Having it, it'd save you so much time. I saw a 30-hour plunge performed with this glitch and it took like only 5 hours to ascend.
Meh, still works
Also if I didn't reply anymore, just know that sometimes TH-cam didn't give you notifications when someone reply
a normal day on youtube
@@benshinenjoyer waittt how
There is one oddity I've observed from all of this.
First time. You ascended for 10h. You fell for just about 1.5 h.
Second time. You ascended for 36 h. By right, if the ascending speed was constant, you should have called for 3.6 times as long, which would be 5.4 h. Meanwhile, you actually fell for 8.2 h, which is another factor of 1.5
Which means your ascension speed accelerated, either at a certain point abruptly, or over time continuously. And a factor of 1.5 is pretty significant in such a case.
Any idea of how that's happening?
Maybe the lowered accuracy of the FLOPs even influenced the ascension speed who knows.
The launch speed at the beginning of each test was different. It's much faster in the second test.
this reminds me of how deep-sea fish look when you pull them out of the water too quickly
4:32 i know a certain someone that wouldn't be happy with that sentence
This was your craziest experiment so far xD
Love the fact that we're now using Wangshu Inn as a measurement unit
wangshu inn&out
From my experimations of NPC launching up me in the sky, I determined that terminal velocity is 30 m/s.
Because at such height lag is inevitable, I can only say the height on high end and it's 888720 m or 888.72 km.
That means that Heizou reached Exosphere (With lower boundary being either 500 km or 700 km according to different sources).
No wonder he would look like that!
I just surprised you managed to record ALL OF THAT WORK:")
I mean...it's more than 8 hourssss
you could watch the whole shrek movie while heizou was descending
You don't even know how much i love your videos
@@archie0001 It's just a heart, wdym..?
Lisa's distorted alien laugh at 7:10 KILLED ME, i had to pause to roll around on the floor. 🤣🤣🤣

I can smell another genshin creepypasta brewing. Great video!
