    For anyone curious about shipping times, I have some awesome information! I ordered a second Retroid Pocket 3+ on December 22nd and received it January 6th! So if you order one to the US, it seems like 2 weeks would be your ETA 😊
    Thanks all for watching! It’s been great to see so much dialog in the comments about retro emulation handhelds!

    We are at the cusp of what I want: A portable that runs like 90% of games up to PS2/GC with little to no issues at 60fps. I will wait. I feel that by 2024, we'll have exactly what I want.

      @skynet8646 the steamdeck barely qualifies as a portable. It's simply too big. This is not.

    Bought this to replace my Steam Deck for flights/site visits for work and I absolutely love the size and form factor. Most of what I played on my SD were emulated titles to conserve battery while traveling, so a dedicated handheld just makes sense. I just discovered that Bravely Default runs pretty well on my 3+, so it looks like that's in the backlog now!

    It's tempting, but I've heard mixed reviews on this device (both in hardware and horrible costumer service). PS2 and Gamecube + modern console streaming is the benchmark I'm looking for, and this version hits those, but I may just hold out a little longer to see what 2023 has to offer.

    • @robbieburns3564
      @robbieburns3564 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. This looks like it needs a bit more power.. and this company creates updated handhelds almost every couple of months. I've got too much to play on my steam deck, so I'm happy to see what 2023 brings to small handhelds.

    • @GR4NT01D

    Great video mate!!!
    I have a question for everyone.
    Nostalgia is one of the biggest reasons why I play retro games.
    It transports me back in time to my youth.
    The resolution and blockyness of the games holds a place in my heart.
    By upping the resolution of the games completely changes things for me.
    Looking at the ps1 spyro at 6x resolution looks like a brand new android game!!!
    To me it just doesn't look or feel retro.
    Maybe it's just me!!!!😆

    • @ScatteredBrain
      @ScatteredBrain  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think because it’s the same art style, it still looks good to me. I find myself choosing an upscaled PS1 game over remasters. I like to imagine if HD and widescreen was possible, this is what it would have been without changing the core of the game. But I definitely understand your point of view too! That’s why 4:3 handhelds are still so important to have available to choose from!

      See this is what grinds my gears, people complained how horrible and lazy retroid was for not installing membrane buttons right out the box. All the youtubers I've seen complained about this. But if you check out comments on rp3+, they all complained about how the clicky buttons were more superior 🤦🏿‍♂️ its like the consumers don't understand what they want and just want to complain. I swapped my case of rp3 snes onto my yellow rp3+ and kept dpad clicky and buttons membrane. It's all preference, but I appreciate retroid for giving free swappable buttons and motherboards!

      I just got a retroid pocket 3+ last week and I love it. I can say by now that most ps2/GameCube, and even a lot of 3ds games run perfectly if you tweak the settings. These apps and emulators are always updating to newer versions and the games will always run smoother as they progress. There are guides all on TH-cam that show you the specific adjustments for each game.

    I really wanted to get the 3+ in a translucent color, but I had to settle for a 2GB model of the 3 in "16 bit" since that's all that Amazon carried (the Retroid site claims that the 3+ is only taking preorders, and getting anything directly from China is difficult in the US [long delivery times + mystery customs fees]). Having committed to the 3, I'm going to hold off on upgrading until at least the 4+ (assuming that it's easier to get at that point). I was primarily looking for a replacement for my PSP, so this suits my immediate needs. Gamecube and PS2 emulation would have been nice though.

      It is true if you take just one unit alone, it will be that expensive. But for some reason if you spend additional 10$ the shipping will be cheaper. You need to spend another 10$ to make shipping cheaper. No idea how that works but 2 days ago I ordered 1 unit + screen protector and memory card reader which is 5$ each to EU and it costed me 177$ (167€) with shipping.
      Play around with items from accessories or DIY and let it calculate shipping cost. There is even 1$ item and you can keep adding those until you see the price drop. And then find something useful in the store of that amount to buy. Not gonna lie I wish Anbernic had the same system. I would like to get my hands on RG35XX and RG353M.
      But RG35XX goes from $55 to $82 with shipping and RG353M goes from $145 to $192 -.-

    • @beedos08
      @beedos08 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Emulators are not hard to use for the most part. Most of the time you just boot them up and load a ROM of your choice. Where it gets difficult is when you have a game/system that may require special settings to run properly (If at all). With emulators being around for as long as they have been though, usually you can find a guide somewhere to help you troubleshoot a particular issue.
      My advise, get comfortable with the use of emulators before investing money on a device like this. They are not hard but you would want to make sure you actually like emulation before investing 150+ into a device.

      Very different options! I’ve been messing with the Vita more recently since the new jailbreak. You won’t get full speed N64, but playing vita and PSP games are fantastic. PS1 is great too but missing the L2 and R2 could have an impact sometimes.
      As of now, you can’t get Vita games emulated on Android. Although it sounds like that could change soon - but hard to say if they’ll run at full speed right away.

      @@ScatteredBrain It should be an easy upgrade if the just make the pcb seperated from all the buttons, controller pads, charging and battery module, graphic driver board and make the pcb with standard layout for all versions.
      Then they can sell all things from upgraded PCBs, upgraded controller, upgraded displays, different shell forms, large batteries etc. Should save them much manufacturing cost, also potentially better profit margin.
      As for the consumer, instead of buying a whole new console, they can just pick upgrades they needed or simply slowly one by one according to their budget.

      It is available now! Shipping can take a few weeks I believe because they do batch orders. So even though the button says pre order it will be ordered and take 3-4 weeks most likely.

    • @ScatteredBrain
      @ScatteredBrain  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a dumb question at all! There’s no games included with this device. You’ll have to add them yourself. It has 128gb of internal storage which is plenty to get some games loaded up on the device, but you will probably want to get a microSD card for additional storage.

      Nah no ROMs are pre-loaded. I think this is a benefit though - yes you need to acquire your own games, but usually when games are included you get a bunch of mis-named repeat games.

    btw, that little bar on the right of the screen is not removable. it is hard coded into the factory operating system that this thing runs on. its always there, it blocks part of the game, and it is touch sensitive so if you accidentally swipe your finger across the screen it will pull up the whole menu and everything. totally ruined the whole product for me and it is a waste of $130

    How does PS2 games run in software mode emulation?

    • @ScatteredBrain
      @ScatteredBrain  ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn’t - my understanding is that it’s extraordinarily accurate emulation using software rendering, but you’ll be bottle necked by the CPU which can’t handle the same graphics processing as a GPU.
      My caveat to this message is I didn’t look up how accurate this is - it’s what I’m assuming based on the description of software rendering.
