I am not sure as to why you disassembled your door, but thank you for doing it on camera. i was able to replace my release cable for the inside door handle of my 2004 Passat by using your video. Thanks again, and well done!
Thanks for making this video - it was very helpful! I have to fix the window lift cable in my girlfriend's VW and I would have probably broken something if I hadn't watched this video first. Greetings from Key West, Capt. Blackheart Charlie
FINALLY I found a informatic video (sorry my English is REALLY bad) 12:50 in this move i found out HOW to remove the last part! I have a Passat 2011, wich that torx screw is destroyed, so i can not get the lock fixed, stocked. So I have to buy a new part, that part you took away in film (12:50 min) THANK YOU! i belive it is almost the same in passat 2011, back door???
Great video. Remember the days when it was fairly easy to repair stuff yourself? I bet these companies deliberately design them so they can maximize labour time in the garages and get more money out of you
Thanks for the video. I am trying to replace the latch that holds the passenger side actuator for my passat 2001. I am able to unscrew one of the two tripple square bolts to get to the handle and the actuator but the 2nd bolt threads got worn out and unable to remove it. Could anyone tell me how to drill it out without damaging any further or any other options
THANKS! Now i know how to get into my wife's 5.5 to replace the mirror switch that my dog broke, two dogs ago! Better than the Bentley manual! Those 12 point bolts go back as far as the axles on 1969 type 1 type 2's and the large ones were used on rabbit head bolts. Those of us old enough to remember John Muir's Book: How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive for the Compleat Idiot may still remember his proviso on thoroughly cleaning out the socket recess to avoid stripping them.
thanks so much for the video. I would like to know how I can service my door locks including the central locking mechanism because the central locking mechanism including the trunk locking has completely failed.I have a 2001 vw passat.
Thanks for your tutorial...... at one point you mentionned when talking about your experience with the vw 12 point bolt , striping off the inside of the bolts!!.....I did that too... my question is how did you drilled them out.....any better way !? Thank you
Those pins that you mention in the video that are missing, the black plastic ones in the upper left of the door that you have to pound out, you said to use a Phillips screwdriver and a hammer. Well I got them out, now how the heck do I get them back in? The plate behind the panel that they're supposed to go in isn't supported against the back of the panel, so I cannot simply pound them back in from the front, and I can't get enough support behind them either. Long-jawed channel locks to press the pins in and support the back at the same time??
Brilliant just bought a 2002 VW Passat 1.9 TDI, this is going to be very helpful I bought it cheap, and have to do the window regulator and the bloody drivers door won't open from the inside and very hard to open for outside, anyway thank you.
Thanks for this. The window on my car was 7/8 of the way down so I had to drill a 3/4" hole for the one nearest the door latch and remove the speaker for the other one.
Thanks very much for the excellent tutorial. My take away - I am not going to try and will pay a skilled mechanic to get inside my Passat's door panel for the door lock module issue.
at 3:58 there should be three rivets there, someone didn't put it back last time, because it hard to put it back, Don't need to remove those rivets before remove the carrier panel, it will hard to put it back, I remove the carrier panel with the door lock all at once, first on rear door that fitted 1/4 window or wagon, you need to remove the short window's rail that fit front of the door lock, then remove the lock bolts and then you can remove the all out a little to easy remove the cable that from the outer handle to the door lock ,then can out at once.some models need to remove outer door handle at once. after out ,then can remove and install the rivets easy., front door is easy because no window's rail there,, Hope this help!
Many thanks for a great video. The lock on my driver side door freezes when below zero. Sometimes cant turn the key, sometimes cant open the door, and sometimes can't get the door to lock it shut. I guess there is moisture inside. Tried squirting in all kinds of oils, lubricants, multilube, graphite powder etc, but no fix yet. I wonder - if I replace the actuator on the door - will I then have to have it matched to my car keys - or can I just take the key cylinder or what it is and swap it from the old actuator on to the new one?
My inside door handle keeps slipping (looses tension) when I try to open from inside (outside works fine). Works for few times then looses all tension again. This happened after I replaced window regulator. Is there way to anchor the inner door cable so it won't loose/stretch from opening door from inside? I was thinking of advancing inner door cable further behind regulator panel then taping it down?
3BD 998 785 ,3BD 998 786 (note: the partnumbers are for left and right side, as the positioning plastic pins on the microswitches are placed differently)
Very helpful but... its good to mark on the side of screws and metal panel that hold the window to know how far we must screw in when we put the window back. Its need only two full spin to lose the window. Why to do that? To know how far we can go with the screws to not brake the window. "Gold" screw that hold the lock have precise number of spins to pull out the lock and then simple putt back, the number of spins is 12, no more no less. Sorry for my English :-)
As soon as you disassemble the door, it's OK, but if you want to put it back together and not get tired, you have to disassemble this panel together with the lock. M the lock should stick to the panel on this plastic support, then it's easier to install and that's the correct technology for this work; ) Sorry for my English but it's the translator's fault;)
7:50, really need the curved pick, without it near impossible, I was getting very frustrated trying to get this out without the pick, tore my hands up, went to a local tool store and got a set for £10, so easy using the tool it just popped out
Hard to find such a good video, thanks man. If i could - I would give you 100 thumbs up. 1 question though - my window does not go up well since a view days. i need several atemps to get up with the regulator motor. What is most likley the problem, the motor it selve or the cabel mechanism? What is the most likely reason? Sorry for my englisch. Rgds from germany.
i have a 2001 b.5 vw passat and i have to replace both front drivers and passengers inner plate as my windows dont work problem is i cant get the plate off and i cant get the two bolts for the glass to show themselves any help would be appreciated thanks
3:50 panel removed. 4:00 when did you knock the two plastic pins out of the lock holder? How do you put them back during assembly? The pins should remain there, the lock is removed together with the sheet after disconnecting the handle. Look: th-cam.com/video/K_QTf3Lpo7Q/w-d-xo.html 13:35 - 17:20. Then you don't have to stick your hands to the lock and use a hook to tear off the connector.
kick panel by your left foot(Remove kick panel) has 3 plugs you'll see the wires coming through the door hole pull them to unplug them and they will pull right into the door.

Helpful up to a point. Now I have a disassembled door which I can't take off coz he didn't show how to disconnect the harness! Great

lol, "flimsy" door panels. The door panels on my VW Fox were made out of pressboard. Thinner than the garage stuff with the holes you hang tools on.
