Hi Autodoc, The first MINIs (One and Cooper until 07-2004) have an oil filter housing with a plastic basket and a spring inside. You have to take these out of your old filter and put it back into the new filter!! Otherwise lower oil pressure is created and sometimes the car will show a low oil pressure message (oil pressure light) as a result. Why u guys dont show this?
Thank you for your comment! You are absolutely right, some points were missed, but we will definitely add this in our new videos. Best Regards, Autodoc team
Since and if you have a lift, it's way easier to get to the filter housing by going/reaching through the right side underbody; lots of room and since heat rises you're not hanging over a hot engine and hitting the exhaust manifold
So there is a issue with pre November 2004 r50 MINI 1.6 petrol where the oil filter housing cover has a built-in spring and plastic cage. The plastic cage is sometimes accidentally discarded when it sticks to an oil filter. The spring can jump free and is sometimes lost. The solution is a good quality oil filter like Mann which has its own sturdy cage built in. Put the spring in the top of the cover whilst fitting the filter upside down so that the spring can push against the strong side of the filter. The other end of the filter without grooves still lets oil flow because of the high pressure. No need to buy a new oil filter housing or a newer type oil filter housing cover.

@@JordanThomasRichards Thanks! I watched it again and guess I missed it as it showed up on the right side of the screen in a weird font, when all the other pertinent pop up information showed up on the left! Easy to overlook I suppose, anyway, good catch and thanks for correcting me.

You need to use engine oil of specification and viscosity recommended by the car manufacturer. You can find this information in the operating instructions for your car.
⚠ Attention! This video contains a mistake:
2:30 - the tightening torque is 25 Nm, not 30 Nm.
We're sorry for the inconvenience.
Quick question, is the oil filter cup socket supposed to be 65/67-14f (as in the description) or is it 76-14f (as stated in the video), please?
The 2006 R50 just needs a 36mm socket for filter removal. Glad I watched another video before ordering a special tool.
This was a really great tutorial. Straight to the point! ✌️
Pro tip : drain the last remaining oil in the filter canister by not completely removing it at first (wait 2 min) results in a cleaner job
wish I had read this shit before I just dumped oil all over the parking lot LMAO

My thinking too, I didn't have my big handbag with my hoist in it at the time....
Hi is the oil filler cup 76-14f or 67 /67 that you say in the comments below ? So I get the correct one
The correct size would be 65/67-14f/
AUTODOC
The oil filter cup size is different in the video than the description, the one in the video is wrong as I have just found out the hard way
Thank you for the valuable clarification, we will definitely take this into account when shooting new videos.

it's held in place by friction - use twisting action to dislodge & remove
It would be nice if you put the torque specs in...
They did. 25nM for the plug and 30nM for the filter.

Thank you for your comment.

oil filter cup socket is wrong
It is. I went to the shop and bought one to discover it didn't fit. It was too small. Do you know what size is the right one?
Wtf why use a torque wrench if your not gonna use it right lmfao
Its click then stop not click 3 times then go another quarter turn
