Thoracic Self-Mobilization - Extension off edge of table

  • Use a therapy table or a weightlifting bench. (The edge of a bed will not create enough of a tension point, and you may have limited results).
    1. Interlace your hands behind your neck and keep your elbows pointed toward the ceiling.
    2. Slowly lower your upper body down straight to the floor (not arching back) over the edge of the table. It's normal to feel pressure, but make sure this is not causing acute pain.
    3. BREATHE as you perform these movements to ensure your body feels safe and relaxed in this position.
    4. Move either up or down your back from the initial starting point.
    Perform this for 1 minute - or for 10 breaths - whichever occurs first. Repeat 2-3 times per day.
