    Love this! Super cool as a sound quality test to see what you can do with one mic, you should do this with some of the warm mics

    I would love to have a home studio like that man. I play the guitar, drums, piano and bass and want a dope space to work. Its just hard. I've bought alot of gear over the years but recently had to sell most of it being a young person in their 20s on their own. I graduated from audio school a while ago and am hoping to get to a point to where I can have something like this. dope setup, dope channel

  • @ulfdanielsen6009

    This is what I love about your channel,- experimenting with different studio techniques - just for the fun of it - who knows,- youmight learn something new.
    The 414 sounds just right on acoustic guitar - very lifelike.
    Toms sounded fine too,- but then again ,- you´re a drummer at heart so I´d expect that. :)
    The finest details could probably benefit from some high detail maybe ribbon or pencil mics - some of the percussion sounded like it had more to give.
    Just goes to show that a couple of basic quality mics go a very long way.
    In case you don´t know it,- here´s a small trick for punchy growly rock bass.
    Tracking:
    1: bass into a soft knee compressor,- just enough to catch the attack without it becoming a bass pump.
    2. From comp into DI to host
    3. Link from DI into overdriven or slightly distorted tube amp and mic´ed cab going for the midrange.
    Post:
    4. DI´ed bass - slighly midscooped
    5. Mic´ed amp bass - lowered bass and treble, midpushed, crunchy
    6. Blend to taste,- perhaps with the slightest hint of chorus or flanger on the growly bass
    Result: Clean and crunchy powerful and punchy rockbass with a glorious growl to it - 5-string basses in particular love this technique.

    Honestly just a great brand all around. I got a stereo pair 214s for an absolute steal ($450) at GearFest a few years back. Probably my favorite mic pair, they sound absolutely great as overheads, close drum mics, cabs, vocals, you name it. AKG is just straight 🔥🔥🔥

    • @jhardindrums
      @jhardindrums 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@agesonjohanesburg2915 That depends. If you're in a treated room, and you have a drummer that knows how to control dynamics, it probably doesn't need it. But on the flip side, if you're in a loud room with a loud drummer, I'd recommend it. It's one of those features that are useful if that situation calls for it, cause you never know what you might get.

    Nice video! :D I own a C414 B-ULS and it has served me very, very well for many years!! Last year, I bought an AKG D320-B dynamic mic, hooked it up to my system with my monitors set at a decent volume, as I always do and I kept on raising the volume whilst talking into the D320-B, thinking it's broken and when I got the volume halfway up, which's usually LOUD, I heard my voice being amplified above my normal speaking voice (how do I explain this?) and went like: "my God..... this mic's just PERFECT for my voice", haha. almost completely flat, that's why I couldn't hear my voice at the beginning. Whenever I hook up my Shure Unidyne, C-414 or whatever mic, I always instatnly hear it through my monitors. The AKD D320-B sounded just 98% natural to me. At one point, I had to record my vocals for a project and decided to put the D320-B next to my C-414, sent both recordings to the artist and we both preferred the D320-B over the C-414. Check it out one day! I'm not gonna say you'll like it, because we're all different, but maybe you will and they're pretty inexpensive as well. ;)

  • @sporadicambientdiaries
    @sporadicambientdiaries 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    To me the first C414 (comb) sounds the most colored, in a cool early transistor mic way. Really great. Then the C414EBs are the most natural sounding (to my ear). EB-P48 and B-ULS is a step down from that. Smaller sound, not as pleasing harmonics (distortion) for some reason... or something. But still very nice. All the newer versions got progressively more processed sounding (phasier, cleaner but more sterile). That said, still good enough that in the right hands with good sources and most importantly good music they give you a great sound. This video being a testament to that.
    BTW C414s on piano, such a good match.
    The question is, if the current prices of C414EB and COMB make sense when there is such a big choice of great mics today...

    I do love the 414s it's such a shame AKG no longer exists. Swallowed up by Samsung and everything being cheaply made in China. Sad times but all the engineers started Austrian Audio in 2017. They offer something new yet keep the heritage of their alive. Austrian Audio make great stuff highly recommend checking them out. Anyway the 414 are great and I've used them in every recording if the studio had them. They sound great on everything and never let me down. Just need to buy a pair for myself now. Warm Audio have a clone version of the 414 the WA-14. They are pretty sweet as well.
