Thank you for this video. I purchased the c414 xls last Thursday and it is the best mic in my locker

I’d love to see a similar study on the small diaphragm mics. I use them a lot. I own C28b, C451 and a C60. Plus some accessories. Good job on the LDC mics

Yes I was very much thinking the same thing when the subject of the 451 came up in this video. I’ve owned 2 pair of Blueline series with various capsules for nearly 30 yrs and 3yrs acquired a used pair of 480 with omni & cardioid capsules. They are wonderful tools along with my Schoeps for my on location recording business.

That 414xls is my favorite overall in the musical shootout. It just sounds so realistic, natural, and balanced, compared to the other microphones. I would say the addition of the 451 could complement it nicely on some of the instruments here or there as well. 214 is a smoking bargain and gives a little more of that sparkle, but some may prefer her on vocals or acoustic guitar.

Very nice overview. I was doubting on either a C214 or C314 for voice over, slightly leaning towards the 214, but I'll get the 314.

It really is a great mic for rich vocal tones

for live on stage like Gilberto Joao, to avoid larsen or others sounds of stage, do the c314 better choice than c414?
or directivly the 451? which better choice to do? thks

Hi!Thank you this introducing!I'm a male rapper with higher and thiner voice.I'm
thinking about buying Akg OC18 or Sony C80.What do you think?

    • @ertatta

Sony C80 or the 414XLII. OC818 is creamier sounding mic without the clarity and sheen of these 2 others

@@ertatta Thanks, but already i bought a C80 last week, and i like it.The OC818 would be unnecessary for me. I was afraid of the 414XLII that it would be very metallic, and of course it is also expensive. I did not regret the Sony

the painfull true is that all first c mics until 1976 c414 eb (the ones with the brass capsule) are very very very good , rare , desirable , and extreamlly expensive. all the c mics that came after that (the ones with the nylon capsule) are a poor versions of the Earlier ones. its all comes down to the capsule: the higher cost of the brass version and very dificult to produce, makes it sound rich ,airy and very pleasent compare to the lower cost of the nylon version and easier to produce, makes it sound also rich ,not airy but muffuld and nowhere near as pleasent sound as the brass ones. all the c414 nylon capsule mics of course, are better than most 100-500$ low budget ldc mics on the market today, and very Versatile and usefull as well , but they are not close sounding to the brass capsule Family.

Audio comparison is useless. Like a slide show, how can one catch nuances?
