  • Grab a cuppa and settle in for some 1970s fashion fun as I share each page in the November Simplicity Sewing Patterns Fashion News leaflets! Some of the vintage sewing patterns could easily be worn today. Others may have you asking yourself "What were they thinking!"
Who remembers grabbing these little freebies while browsing through the pattern counter books at the sewing stores? I do! They always had a preview of some of the new patterns.
The Fashion News included (along with where you can find each section in this video)
    1969 November (2:31)
    1970 November (7:30)
    1972 November (13:18)
    1974 November (18.40)
    1975 November (23.57)
    1976 November (26:53)
    1978 November (30:33)
    1981 November (32:47)
I flip through each one page by page, and also provide you with the pattern number (and description if one was provided) just in case you want to search for one of these vintage sewing patterns on eBay, Etsy, or your local thrift shop.
It's interesting to see how the content and descriptions provided by SImplicity Pattern Company changed in these little leaflets from 1969 to 1981.

Obsessively love vintage pattern 60-70s in particular and walking through these was magical. I wish they still made these now!

Love it, I was born in ‘68, my mom sewed a bunch of these, she was very stylish! I still have a couple patterns from the 1980s that I sewed then. Thanks for sharing.

Loved the styles from the 1978 and 1981 editions! I've been looking on Etsy for older sewing patterns from the 80's. Thanks for the memories!

I noticed there’s a ton of 50s TH-cam sewists, and then very historical sewists, but no dedicated 70s TH-cam channel.

Since learning to sew recently, I’ve realized I REALLY love 70s sewing fashion. I’m a fan of geometric patterns in general as I’m a graphic designer, so the seam lines & top-stitching of the 70s really shows how creative sewing can be as an art form, in my opinion.

Hi Sharon - I have just come across your video and I am hoping you can help! My mother has made Vogue Issey Miyake 1476 amd I love her coat and would like to make it. She still has the pattern but not the instructions! I hoping you made a video of you making it and you could point me in the right direction ???? Thankyou in advance - it will save me so much angst and frustration trying to work it out ! Cheers from Sydney Australia - Annalisa

Hi! That 1476 coat is a good one! It’s on my to-sew list for 2024, but I do not have a sew-along for it yet.
BUT there is a Facebook group called “ Issey Miyake Sewing Patterns Fans” and my guess is someone in that group might be able to share a PDF of the instructions for you. Unfortunately, my IM patterns are currently in storage so I don’t have access to them at the moment.
