MOST people see Corrine and Tyler and assume they are disabled man and his carer - when actually they are madly in love and happily engaged. An interabled couple want to show that they, ‘can do anything that other couples can do’ and ‘just want to be treated as everybody else.’ Corrine Szatkowski, 20, is training to be a nurse and is healthy and able-bodied, whilst Tyler French, also 22, has severe spinal muscular atrophy, which makes muscles very weak and causes problems with movement. The couple have been together for four years and want to straighten out the misconceptions surrounding interabled couples.

@@zlatkajupe Bingo. But too many people assume that disabled people are so grotesque that no relationship between a disabled person and an able-bodied person is honest. If the able-bodied person is a man, he must be after the disabled woman because he thinks she will be "easy." Able-bodied men and women are both suspected of having financial reasons for the relationship or of just wanting attention. Assumptions galore lead to stigma and even hassling as well as "warning" the disabled person that the able-bodied partner has bad motives.
You are right: no one can know what leads to a relationship. Attraction follows its own rules -- no rules at all!

The things that those people were saying was so rude and beyond disrespectful people need to have more compassion and respect for others I've seen lots of interabled couples and it's a beautiful thing to see it's inspiring to see someone love someone wholeheartedly loving their heart and their soul not worried about their appearance and showing respect and compassion for their partner and be able to take care of them is a purest form of love I've ever seen I wish them well they seem so happy and hope they have a beautiful happy life together when you love someone it isn't about the way they look or anything superficial it's about who they are and how they treat you

It's not that they're in a relationship. It's that she is his full-time caretaker. Diapers, feeding, talking to healthcare workers, medication etc. And she's super young.
I absolutely do believe that disabled people do find and are worthy of love, but being a caretaker is mentally and physically exhausting. And disabled people are adults too, aren't they? Getting a caretaker that isn't their lover is a part of their self-care responsibility.

well, then be thankful that you’re not a part of their relationship. clearly they love each other, so what is the point of having any reservations? some people are just naturally attracted to being in the caregiver role; it can bring a sense of solace and comfort knowing that you are a stable partner who nourishes others.
This was made a long time ago. I’m now 24 and we are still together and happily married. It’s assumptions like “diapers, medication” etc that are toxic. You don’t know anything about his condition or what care he needs. Of course it’s exhausting but we love each other immensely.

I've been in a few interabled relationships myself and I just feel so happy and blessed for you guys that you found each other and fight for what's in your hearts.
I hate seeing negative comments like the one above but as I sit here and type and think I've realized something. In my somewhat healthier years I was actually a caregiver to my partner. And in the past decade at one point was the one receiving care from a different partner.
Unfortunately and also not unfortunately both of those relationships ending up not working out for a myriad of reasons. But part of both failed relationships was due to the caregiving/chronic illness aspect in some ways. So I think I'm finally starting to realize WHY ppl like the one above make these kinds of comments. It definitely can be very difficult to balance the caregiving and the romance especially after many years and especially with 24 hour/7 day care. Trust me I know. Doesn't make it right at all but as someone whose lived both sides of it I can see how if it's not TRUE UNCONDITIONAL Love it really is impossible. That's what failed both my relationships, it just wasn't true love and the constant caregiving wore down the semi-love we had.
However it's SO BEAUTIFUL to see that you two really are meant for each other because for you it works so well! I can see your love because only true love can make any relationship really work anyways. I'm just so happy for you and inspired by you what true love and proper caregiving looks like and that my happily forever after soulmate may still be out there and that it wasn't "my disability" that ruined my relationships it was those people just not loving me the way I loved them or the way I deserved to be loved.

I myself am 23 yrs old women whos disbility is PNES(seizures) and complex PTSD it makes it very hard to find genuine friends and a partner cause once most hear that your disabled they dont think your worth the time anymore or they dont want to hear your story. Hoping the whole human race can grow a bigger heart and hold more compassion for others 🫱🏻🫲🏾💜
