So @Nyce-Gaming since we will have a tab target/action type combat does this mean we will be able to use controllers? 🙏🏾 being throne and Liberty and GW2 can! I am hoping so lol I have a life time sub and I cant wait to jump in
@@DanteSyx we missed the window for lifetime sub unfortunately. But they are working on true controller support . I doubt it’s present during alpha, but would expect it by official launch 😁
i would say eso is closer to ashes combat than other mmos today with the one expection being GW2 which i feel is their direct inspiration for combat seen as it has been stated that there will be active block and dodge buttons even tho only certain classes like tanks for block and fighter and rogue for dodge will actually get the most benefit out of that with its basically sounding like eso with slightly less action features meaning no guard bash or yellow focus attacks and a lot less focus on active block and dodge for the those who play classes other than the 3 i mentioned with more abilites and subsequently a action camera, tab target mouse feature like GW2 to selet from your much larger selction of abilites on AT MOST 2 bars instead of esos 2 bars you swap between and than select from with the actual buttons on your keyboard or controller. honestly i feel like if you have played both or at least understand the general flow of boths combat styles and imagine a love child between em, you got your idea for what ashes will be especially if they decide to spice thigns up with the same yellow and red focus attacks and guard bashes as well as even maybe parries for tanks perfect blocking and maybe even defelcts for perfect dodges like from for honor where if you deflect, it can give you free attacks during an enemies attack that maybe even can stun them to reward you for your defelct.
Thanks yea! It needs to be impactful, because even if we run out of quests, features to explore, etc in alpha 2 ; the combat is what we’ll always have and be doing the most
Yea man! I’m going to play it more again closer til alpha 2 if throne and Liberty isn’t fun long enough. Really good game so I don’t get why it’s not super mainstream
Due to the mediocre launch and little to no marketing, and the marketing that was done was pretty lame/cringe, and those who played had no end game for quite a while. Then the servers in WvW (the unique feature at the time)started dying due to people joining the bigger/stronger servers. :/
@@Amasoful it all makes sense now. I just remembered there was a recent big feature/update regarding classes and I saw no further marketing of it 🧐 sounds bout right
Archeage has the exact same system of weapons linked to skills. Your character allows you to equip 1 ranged weapons and 2 different one hand melee weapon OR 1 two handed weapons at the same time. (so melee weapon(s) + bow at all time) it also let you use any weapons for any class. Your skills will just use the weapons they require. A magic or melee ability will use the main melee weapon (right hand or two hands) as the bow will stay on your back as stat stick, then if you use an archer skill (as a debuffing arrow) it will withdraw your bow to shoot that arrow while the melee weapons will still be equipped but on your hips/back. All this without having to swap bars or gear, just by the press if a button. However yes it's not an hybrid combat, it's full tab target modernized with skills that don't require targets but aiming your character or mouse placement skills. to be noted that every character must use a ranged weapon even if they don't have a single "ranged skill" because the ranged weapons stats counts even if not withdrawn and same goes for instrument (lute or flute)
You can tell Steven has drawn a lot of inspiration from his time on archeage. As much as I’m used to bar swapping in other games, I must say; the character automatically pulling out the weapon associated with the skill is very smooth
I hope to see some kind of advantage to Action Combat when skill expression is high enough. Perhaps Intrepid could bring critical hitboxes back and let AC users get a higher crit chance if they can land their shots on the smaller targets, where tab players would just get flat crit chances. Or maybe something simple like AC having a small buff to attack speed over tab. I don't see any practical advantage to Action Combat right now, why would any player choose to use it beyond just style points?
@@Nyce-Gaming Melee is preference for sure, but AC is an objective disadvantage for ranged combat. It would be awesome to compensate for that disadvantage with a small stat boost so the players with fast hands can express their skill. It would make AC meta for the highest level of ranged combat that only the best players could pull off, which gives a lot of longevity to the game when players try to learn a harder system. As it is, AC will probably fall to the wayside and never get used compared to how strong tab will be.
I kinda like GW2's combat but to me it's waaaaay too floaty. No move feels good to hit, you just hit air and the numbers go up on the enemy. I want to feel that hit connect, the stagger and everything.

Great video and imo good comparisons, I'm excited and slightly worried for the combat at the same time if that makes sense. I hope they deliver a fluid combat system that doesn't seem clunky, it's looking promising. Any plans on covering PoE 2 on release or beta?
So funny fact, I have never played poe1 and d4 was my only arpg. I watched the Poe2 showcase and was sooooo impressed! I think I shall. You know when the beta is?
@@Nyce-Gaming All I know of is a closed beta for supporters sometime this year, not too sure on the dates. However, I think you do a very good job covering games and I would be very interested in some breakdowns or build showcases from it!
@@Nem3D Thanks for letting me know! I loooove theorycrafting and there’s really no better build crafting than poe or arpgs in general. Will research today
Yea I figured at the very least it’ll be something to help kill time until alpha 2 and experience a MMO launch. I know a lot of people who dislike tab target and this a good game for them to try to get used to it
You can totally feel that TL action combat was added as an afterthought. The action camera does not feel good. 90% of your abilities still require a locked on target and you still have an auto attack which requires you to be looking in the almost exact direction of your target, which renders the action camera pointless because if you rotate the camera with your mouse even slightly your now no longer looking at your target and can no longer hit it. Click and drag cam in tab allows you to pan your camera to see what's going on around you while still maintaining directional visibility on your target to hit them. I found this really clunky. Once I started treating it like the tab in wow or FFXIV it got much simpler in terms of control. Intrepid can do a lot with this to refine it. I'm still on the fence about the hybrid system. I'm still in the mind of going full action, or full tab. But who knows, maybe once it's finalized it'll just work and everything will feel great.
Yea everything isn’t for everyone, but they adding the action camera was a great quality of life feature for players and feels ok to me. I don’t think most that enjoys a traditional tab camera / used to one will appreciate it as much tbf. But yes I agree that had it been a long time goal of T&L like it is for AOC it’d be even better. I don’t share the opinion that the action camera gets rendered pointless as it’s more so of just a preference thing. Plus there’s very detailed customization qol settings for the above issue you stated about having to be looking in that direction if I recall but could be wrong. I personally just think there will be preferential biases when it comes to users when they get their hands on it
@@Nyce-Gaming boy I hope it's not for everyone, y'know what they say about trying to please everyone 🤣. I just didn't like the idea of rotating my action cam slightly and losing my already locked on target. But I would rather it be a skill issue by design rather than a LOS issue due to bad design. If that makes sense.
