I love the Rats! I have I think 5 of the Rat 1's and 5 of the Rat 2's, plus I have the S35 version. Great knives! I used to make wood scales for them, but when I moved I no longer have a place to set up my old wood shop. I miss it, but I still have a few of the old wood scales I made for them.

When I started to seriously collect pocket knives I picked up the Rat II. Back then I thought I needed smaller knives to carry in my pocket. Over time I realized that I prefer larger knives and they aren't a problem for me to carry. So obviously I needed to get the Rat I. I love the size so much better and it is very easy to carry. Live and learn.
Brother I need to check out a rat 2. But I am absolutely loving these two I think it's just the size of the handle for me you know something comfortable easy to work manageable that kind of thing
@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors the Rat 2 is perfect if I'm traveling out of state to a job site and need the sub 3" blade. It's a great worker for a small knife.

In my honest opinion, the RAT series is easily the most recognizable out of OKC's lineup and they are well built, affordable, and a surefire staple to people in the knife community.

I have the aus8 and d2 versions. They are great knives! The d2 is definitely a nice step up. It is interesting that Blue Ridge will be producing them now. They also make Esee folders, the Avispa is one!
The avispa is one of my all-time favorites and it's one of dbad's favorites as well! I am really really digging this thing

Man I appreciate that very very much! Honestly I lean more towards D2 but that has more to do with personal preference. I am also very very fortunate my wife is totally supportive on the knife obsession 🤣

Apex is at 993 now. There's another version of the Rat 1 that's worth mentioning there is a G10 version that is an assisted opener.

I remember when these first came out, I got one in a little Army PX just prior to one of my deployments (in 2005 if I am not mistaken). If I remember correctly they also came in D2 when they debuted, as well as AUS-8. The D2 version was super rare to find. A buddy of mine had one and I had the AUS-8 version. A superb knife for pretty much any utility task as well as bushcraft wood-specific and hunting tasks. It is an amazing design that has stood the test of time very well.
Brother I believe you are correct I've had several people mention the D2 version and I would not mind that version honestly. I am not a huge a US-8 fan nothing against it just not a huge one but I do like a good D2
I've got the small version of that. Simple and built well. It's a good one.

Awesome knife. I have a Rat 1 in D2/ Fan effing Tastic knife. I love that Rat 5 my mom got from you and had bad ass 7" old Hickory ( I gave that to a native american woman to butcher some sheep though) All awesome knives. The Rat 1 fits my hand perfectly. I love it. Shout out to Apex alchemy!

Just my opinion here, I think the Rat 1 is the best folding knife ever. Dollar for dollar. Super useful and capable. I have AUS 8 & D2.
Definitely a classic "beater" knife! Though, their Marine Raider Bowie, SP-10, is my favorite OKC Knife. The Rat and Rat 2 are probably the most useful, but the bowie is just fun to use! I put some lineman's heat shrink on the handle and it made it much more comfortable.
The Rat has always been a great working knife it just works. Good review and look at a classic blade.
