Awww, that's my friend Richard answering questions onstage at Some Like It Hot! I dressed him in a regional theater production of Singin' In The Rain, and I'm so happy he's back tapping his ass off on Broadway.
Favorite moment by far: MIckeyJo's whiplash transition from "I refuse to wear red and black" to showing the reverse of the bucket hat. And Aeron's jacket was amazing!
1. The fountain in Central Park is also where princess Giselle sang the iconic "That's How You Know" in Enchanted 2. I remember when I went to Bad Cinderella they brought out the ghostlight even before the audience was out, like curtain down, count 30 seconds, curtain up, bring in the ghostlight. 3. In Phantom you could even see them lowering the chandelier post show as well as the travelator when they bring out the ghostlight
I always purposefully go into shows knowing as little as possible because it really makes that first experience as special and authentic as possible and I really enjoy that. Though I recognize how that may not always be possible if you are someone people (including me) look to as kind of a first-responder for theatre news. Edit: I'll be in nyc at the end of june and I really hope the OBC Shucked cast is still there. It keeps rising on my list of shows to see
I am so living vicariously through these vlogs...i've been to NYC a few times on short school trips to see some shows, but have yet to truly visit like i want to so desperately
Absolute whirlwind of sightseeing, shows, eating and drinking. I don't know how you two kept your energy level up. I had a similar schedule of activities and I confess I was done in by the end of my stay. You've given me ideas of things to do for my trip in June.
I’m loving that you guys have had such great experiences. The Lin Manuel Miranda part sort of made me teary. Kimberly Akimbo is still the best show I have seen in the last several years. It just gets better and better as I ponder it. I was hoping to hear more of a reaction.
Am I the only one who hates choreographed bows? I think it’s really sad when the cast have to essentially bow in character. The bows should be to appreciate the actors themselves and their performance, not the character.
I'm not sure what the intent is but I always interpret the performance of choreographed bows as looser and less in-character (if they're in character at all) vs the actual show. Ditto if the the cast sing during or after bows, that they're performing as themselves rather than the characters (think Hadestown). But Bad Cinderella seems particularly over-the-top in a bad way, like when the ensemble keep dancing into the middle to back up each principle actor as they dance into their bow and then moving to the side again. Seems more forced.
I think it depends on the show. like a show like Cats, if you drop your character and just bow like a person, imo it detracts from the show (maybe that's just from having been in it, idk). also Six (which I know is, like, a total 180 from my last example) where the cast are encouraged to bring as much of themselves to their portrayals of the Queens as possible, it's almost indistinguishable if they're bowing as themselves or the character, which I personally love. (apologies if this is poorly worded, I'm incredibly tired and out of it lol)
@@rorycharlesworthingtonThai doesn’t have anything to do with vows but I think cats and six have more in common than you thought like characters constantly braking the fourth wall singing about themselves to win a contest about how wonderful/shitty their lives have been
Two of my roommates work for Drama Book Shop and when I first started living with them, I couldn’t get over how casual a relationship they have with Lin Manuel Miranda. 😂
I saw Bad Cinderella on Bway last night, and did a search for numbers from the show on TH-cam when I came home. That's how I discovered your TH-cam channel, and stayed up nearly all night watching your videos. You're so knowledgeable & entertaining, it's easy to become addicted. lol You do great work, I hope you're in NYC more often cause I'd look forward to your takes on more Broadway shows. Cheers!
This was so much fun! I love all your vlogs of your time in NYC. Even more than when you are in your home town because I live in Oregon and rarely get to NYC but I have at least 7 times so seeing all the things I love with you makes me smile the whole time. I was especially excited when you saw Lin, OMG!! I can hardly wait until the next NYC vlog! 🥰
Just became a channel member and caught your live Q & A which was fun. I was in NYC the same time you guys were - I went for my birthday and saw Kimberly Akimbo, which I thought was so original and moving - LOVED it! I was very fortunate to meet the super gracious and talented Victoria Clark. Can’t wait for the rest of your videos, especially your Kimberly Akimbo review! Also visited the Top of the Rock,The Drama Book Shop, Sardi’s and Schmackary’s. Didn’t make it to The Museum of Broadway but really enjoyed your video and will have to visit next time. Loving all these NYC Broadway vlogs! Thanks for sharing your trip with us! 🤗❤️🎭
Oh my god, HEY "Sugar" was the name of the first musical adaption of Some Like it Hot, with Bobby Morse and Tony Roberts. 1974, revived in Mexico City in 2019, music by Funny Girls' Jule Styne
These vlogs are reminding me of my 2019 New York Trip I did nearly all the main attractions and saw a broadway show each night we were there as well loving the vlogs can't wait for more : D
Several years ago, I was in the Drama Book Shop with a few friends. I was helping one friend with some research she was doing, while the other two friends browsed. I vaguely noticed a guy come in and start talking to the people working there, but I didn't really pay much attention, because I was looking at the books. When we left, one of my other friends (not the one I was researching with) was like, "OK, so we all saw that was Brian Stokes Mitchell who was talking to the guys at the counter, right?"
I really hope Alex Newell sing Independently Owned at The Tony or at least at the next Thanksgiving Parade! Ps: I knew you would go with The Prohibition Punch!
So jealous you saw Lin at the Drama Book Shop. It’s such a cool place. Glad you had a clear day for Top of the Rock. Awesome you had a Q & A at Some Like it Hot.
I've enjoyed your trip to my city. I must see "Shucked" and "Some Like It Hot" now. Yes, New York is huge. It seems that you guys are mostly in Midtown West. You should come back and explore other areas and Off and Off Off Broadway theaters
Huge fan of Alex Newell! Coincidentally I spend this afternoon playing TH-cam videos of him (mostly from Glee) to my 13 yr old daughter, who is watching Glee for the first time. In her opinion, she reckons he has to be in with a shout for the ‘best voice in Glee’ award!
PS apologies if I have the wrong pronouns- I read earlier that Alex is known as he/him, but if they are they/them, I’m sorry for getting it wrong, it wasn’t intentional!
despite the critisicm, the 2 best things about your Cinderella footage was the final curtain live, such a treat, and i have to say a really beautiful sounding Happy Birthday😮
I am really hoping that you plan to visit NY again to see more shows and maybe some off Broadway shows. I can recommend an excellent restaurant for before or after theater dining and for weekend brunch. It is called the West Bank Cafe. I have eaten there and the food is top-notch. My cousin knows the owner. It is also home to the Laurie Beachman theatre which is a small downstairs location that hosts different events.
I don't know why, but I really like the way Aeron really enunciates when he says "Jamba Juice." It just makes it sound so sophisticated. 🤭❤️ Also, the Caribbean Passion was my favorite growing up! Although I'm in a bit of an Orange Dream Machine Renaissance at the moment.
You guys seem so happy in NYC. Perhaps relocate to the city for a few months/years, for there are so many opportunities in NYC. I hope you don't mind the intrusion.
I know it doesn't exactly fit in the song but surely surely any musical theatre fan goes up to lin Manuel Miranda and goes "excuse are you lin Manuel Miranda, sir" and just hope his reply is "that depends who's asking" to which I would say "oh sure sir I'm..."...is that just me or would anyone else do that
When the original Spats couldn't perform, the Director/Choreographer (Casey Nicholaw) took over briefly. Apparently you just missed him. I saw S.L.I.H. with the original Spats. I think I liked it best of the shows I saw when I did NYC last year.
There are some good theatres in Harlem. Did you have a chance to check out any musical theatre productions in Harlem (i.e. - the Dempsey Theater, the Harlem Stage, and the Classical Theatre of Harlem) whilst you were in the UK?
Lol did i ever tell you about the time I think I met Lin? I was stage dooring at a West End show and I got chatting to a guy and his wife and then when the cast member I had gone to see came out they were clearly friends.I didn't know at that time what he looked like but when I sawa pic later I was like ok i think that was Lin. it all tracks out because the 2 are friends and Lin was working in London at the time. Really amused to see you guys also had a random enoounter!!
Why the Shucked drinks aren't just all Bourbon, I'll never know. By definition, Bourbon must include corn in the mash bill. Not to mention it being the original American whiskey, just the thing to acquaint tourists with our style of drinking.

I hope you saw LEA in Funny Girl, that's the best show in town. I also enjoyed New York, NY, but I think that started previews after you left- NY NY is a great Kander and Ebb tribute.
NYC -- being one of the oldest cities in the US -- is steeped in history wherever you go. It was the original national capital, before the building of Washington. In some places, the old cobblestone paving still exists.
Hey!! Someone from Beetlejuice in Some Like It Hot!! So cool! I had so much fun seeing the show their final Friday evening performance. I went with two people prepared to to not enjoy it who wound up having a BLAST. 🪲🧃 That was my last NYC trip, and I'm glad to see you both seemed to enjoy yours as well!
Did I get completely obsessed with Shucked? Yes, yes indeed! 🌽🌽🌽
As you should, It’s such a gem of a show! Wish I was able to see you all when you were in NY ✨
Great show.
It looks really interesting, gonna check it out more :)

As someone who was born and raised in New York City, seeing a pig walked on a leash definitely isn't the weirdest thing I have seen in New York City.
I once saw a guy on a skateboard, with a french bulldog on a leash on another skateboard.
@@callalily3994 I was going through Central Park and saw a fleet of middle aged men riding by on children's tricycles!

And the fountain is also where everyone got baptized in the movie of Godspell.
And the fountain where Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick splash around in, in the movie version of the musical of the Producers
Is the fountain of Angels in America and "Hair"❤

Same from Italy. I went to London several time, but never attended a musical there

I feel like he purposefully doesn't do that in the vlog to have material for all the review videos.

Agreed - I think a separate video will (hopefully) be dedicated to KA as well as the other shows too :)
