He LOVED the idea of technological advancement and would likely approve of the new ride. But, I probably rode it 2 times on that trip. Loved it each time. Was SCARED each time. Had nightmares for a year where I would mentally put the witch emerging WITH A SPOTLIGHT on her from behind the forest’s trees. I realize she popped around in the trees on the ride, but my dream-brain reorganized it so that the witch was directly in my field of vision looking exactly like she does in the movie. Still, but not a ride animatronic.

    Nice comparison vid.
    Regarding the attraction though...
    I have my thoughts ;) I liked that the story was complete. But I feel WDW's version told it better. Even DLP's version tells it nicely. But to the extent that the previous version was scary, this version is happy. (It's excessively happy) I may or may not have burst out laughing at the end.
    I'm glad though that the story doesn't just end with a book. But I miss all of the thematic scary elements. Like Inside Out taught us - we should embrace all emotions. Some of us kids (and kids at heart) love the villains and atmospheric experiences like Halloween walk-throughs.

    The new effects are great, but I'm nonplussed that they removed the forest and the sense in which you were joining Snow White on her scary adventure. Now it's much more like you're just sitting in a cart to watch scenes from the movie. The stronger rides are the ones where you're having the adventure... It's YOU flying over Neverland, not just WATCHING Peter Pan fly over Neverland. It's not the worst change to a Disney attraction (hi Pirates of the Caribbean!) but it is definitely a tonal shift.

      I agree but I would add that the effects are maybe impressive but come with a downside. All those projectors bring way to much light into the building which reveals things that should be hidden. It's a darkride, it needs darkness. And I'll miss those two skeletons in the lair, especially the one in the floor grate which was especially grim. My family is going back to Disneyland in April after about 7 years. I'm super excited to ride the redesigned ride! I rode the original version the last time I went, and it was pretty scary. This version definitely keeps some of the atmosphere of the original version in the beginning, but adds a more family friendly rendition in the second half. Super excited to experience it in April!

    Disney World’s version of SWSA was amazing. I have never ridden any version of the Snow White ride at Disneyland, but I can’t imagine how Disney World’s rendering of Snow White’s Scary Adventures could be topped. Snow White was absent, except for an unseen song vocal by her wishing well before you entered the proper ride. It was just CREEPY and GREAT. Even as a kid, I indirectly read that on the ride the queen won the story and killed Snow White. Such a disappointment that they took down Florida’s version of the ride.

    I first went on Snow White, when I was five years old in 1985. It terrified me more than the haunted mansion or anything that whole scene with her running in. The terror trees was just not needed in the last thing you heard is the witch, screaming as she died, and then a blond painting on the wall saying, and they lived happily ever after, they also removed all the skeletons and what not and replaced them with chemistry sets. I just wrote the new one today. I like it much better.

And from what I could tell in your previous video, they removed the touch sensitive apple at the entrance of the attraction? Or did they move it somewhere else?

    It just builds to that encounter with the witch in the castle and then just as things are getting suspenseful...a mirror in a moat starts the trend of a bunch of projection effects, books telling us what's happening instead of showing, and three endings crammed together. Way to take all the excitement out of this thing. Now it's just a book report, not an adventure.

    I still prefer Snow White's Scary Adventures for it's darker tone and thrilling atmosphere, since it was an alternate take of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. It mainly focused on the Evil Queen's point of view instead of Snow White's. Now that the exterior of the attraction had been softened by being repainted, skulls removed, and some redesigns the exterior of the Evil Queens' castle became too much like Sleeping Beauty Castle's color scheme which it makes pointless. I wish Disney kept the haunted forest scene, but due to space limitations it was impossible...I'll miss Scary Adventures.
    "It should not be forgotten that as a dark ride, Snow White's Adventures has never needed to concentrate on telling the 1937 movie's full story. From 1955 to 1992, all these rides (with the exception of the 1994 WDW version), have concentrated on presenting an impression on the movie's essence, instead of telling the complete story. The California 1983 version continued to be Snow White's personal nightmare, a hallucinatory voyage through iconic scenes. As the focal point of the ride remained on the scary essence, there really was no need for a proper ending. Unfortunately only a few guests understood this."

  • @NormanOtterman

    Still can’t believe that they removed Haunted Forest and the Witch’s demise. The dungeon was completely de-skeletified and having the High-ho scene being a screen placed at eye-level imho doesn’t make any sense. Snow White eating the apple in the shattering mirror at the castle feels kinda cheesy and glistening leaves during the finale is kinda overkill. The main difference between this and the original that I do like was Snow White dancing with the dwarves. Needless to say I am not really a fan of them sprinkling white sugar on top of one of Grim’s fairytales just to “appeal” to a younger demographic. The opening day version was pretty intense and all they had to do was to put a sign outside that said that the ride was scary. Also the facade having a gold nameplate and pink stones feels like it’s being softened. My review in summary is that the drastic tonal shift really sours it and makes the presentation and overall experience feel less authentic.

    • @aaronsarchive82
      @aaronsarchive82 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're not alone. Walt wanted three types of dark ride attractions in Fantasyland: whimsical, crazy, and scary. The scary void is now wide open.

    • @NormanOtterman
      @NormanOtterman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@aaronsarchive82 I remember watching a video by Matterhorn Matt about fantasyland and in it he mentioned that the development for the fantasyland dark rides was to have:
      1 be full beauty, which became Peter Pan’s Flight.
      2. another be full of comedy, that became Mr.Toad’s Wild Ride.
      3. the third was to be full of drama, which was Snow White and her adventures
      They just removed one of the key design principles of fantasyland and it’s ride’s aesthetics. As you can tell there’s no drama in this new version whatsoever in favor of more “magic”. The 83’ version was a good improvement to the Opening Day original but this new update imho makes it the worst out of the 5 fantasyland dark rides present.

    • @TaedarVulpine
      @TaedarVulpine 3 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @Melody1474

    I was honestly expecting them to completely get rid of the evil queen scenes and just focus on Snow White and the light moments (like how they did the opposite when the scary MK version ran during 1971-1994 which only had the witch popping out in every scene)
