- BEHIND THE SCENES: Getting Ready for a Major Show // Preparing for a major show -- like the biannual event in Round Top, Texas -- offers lots of challenges...and opportunities to be creative. In this video, I show you some of the ways I’ve learned to tap into my creativity to produce unique works. And it’s not just about paintings. Whatever the work, the key is to develop outside-the-box ways of thinking about materials, techniques and design.

I get all excited about entering art shows and then anxiety and depression set in. I've had 5 solo shows and been in 16 group shows. Never sold a single painting. Just entered another group show and I'm so depressed I can't even paint which is my daily joy. I can't even go into my studio and do my daily fun creative non stressful painting because I'm kicking myself for entering my paintings in a gallery. Just so depressed I could cut my ear off. Just a little van Gogh humor. I think a glass of wine might help.
Forget about selling and just create God bless🤗

I've been told not to use palette paper in a finished work because eventually the paint will peal off. Have you had that experience?
Have made photo copies as a result, but there isn't the texture. Have also coated with several layers of gel, and pulled everything off the palette (gel film), then used in collages/paintings. Tedious but effective.
I love Round Top, I live in Fort Worth, love everything about that place!!! Unfortunately I’ll be working, but you will do fabulously there!
You just gave me an idea of combining some collage pieces from my granddaughter 's paintings to include in a composition my going to do to celebrate new life. She did these paintings with her mother and me in their kitchen on the floor. It was fun. I certainly understand the pressure of pulling together a body of work for a show because I've done it.
Funny you should say that because I used to put pieces of my kids drawings into mine. I love that, and it gives it so much meaning. 🌸

Do you order your floater frames? I’m trying to find discount frames because they add so much to the piece, but it adds to the cost. I ordered one on line but it was so cheap.

These are so beautiful! Just wondering what kind of glue you used to attach the palette paper & pieces to the canvas?
I use either matte or gloss medium to use as a glue to attach the pieces. Hope this helps.
How much do you charge for the canvas pieces in the floating frames?

What type of glue do you use to make the collage, my granddaughter uses Mod Podge
Love your ideas Adele - especially the small acrylic blocks. I am going to do Open Studios soon here in UK and thought I would try! I have the blocks and printed off some small images of some of my paintings but can’t seem to glue them to the base of my blocks as they smudge. I am using liquitex gloss medium - not sure if it’s because I used a bubble jet printer. Could you offer any advice please as to how I can glue them? Only recently found your work and really like like it! Thank you.
I love the blocks with small paintings or prints attached. Actually I have not used prints on these, only original pieces, so I can’t help you with that. Sorry. 🌸

Just to let you know....it works best if there is no texture on the small piece you glue to the block because it would not be flat. 🌸

I use the matte medium. And if they are thick then I use the matte gel medium. 🌸
Where do you get the acrylic blocks. I have not been able to find a source
I have the blocks specially made at an acrylic specialty store.
Ive always felt like a wierdo because i save my pallets and collage with them!
