  • Arkansas is a small state with a wide range of geographical variation. It is commonly divided into six geographical regions, consisting of three highland and three lowland regions. Join me today to learn about those three lowland regions (as well as a special bonus subregion that I think is particularly interesting).
This video discusses the West Gulf Coastal Plain, Mississippi Alluvial Plain, Crowley's Ridge, and a special area you'll have to watch to learn about.

Watched both now. Moved to Arkansas 2 years ago from central Illinois but have ancestral roots in Arkansas from as early as 1790s to 1850s. Surnames Vaughn and Benton, Stinnett and Scoggins and a Civil war ancestor David Glowner. Glad I moved here. Thank you for your videos.

I’m not sure how I just stumbled across your videos but I’m glad I did. You did an extraordinary job of putting these two together. I was born in Pine Bluff in 1957 and lived there for almost 40 years. I’m currently in the river valley area but have also lived in Harrison and Saline Co. I appreciate and enjoy the beauty and geographical diversity of our state. Thank you so much for your efforts!

Nicely done! Even if I do live just over the line from Arkansas! Not far from Norfork lake!

After a stop on Island #10 amid the Mississippi River I went east into
the green wet Arkansas Lowlands. Having a 1952 USGS topographic
map. The same one I'm now looking at. The one titled, FAUKE, ARK.
It gave me access to Boggy Creek, where local lore said a mystery
lurked. All I saw was a lazy water flow bearing west toward Days
Creek. Bird calls and woodpeckers at work, I heard. Waited an hour
but no horror manifested. Returned to Fauke, a small town, quiet in
mid-day heat. Departed NW on US 71 to my evening repose. A farm
owned by parents of a young woman I'd had an affair with in California.
Good people, working a crop of peas, as I watched from their porch.
They gave me a supper of Creole Okra Gumbo and Collard Greens.
We watched bats swoop by at dusk. The three of us talking about
our prior years of paid employment in Micronesia.

Parents of gifted children in Fauke were advised in 1960.
by the School Board, to pay for better elementary school
education in NE Texas. I met parents who were so told.
That girl and I shared University of California years as
not everyone in Arkansas was that intelligent.

The Arkansas legislature actually voted to STAY in the union on their first vote on the matter of succession.
Only some months later when cotton plantation planters bought their economic influence to bare did the state succeed.
