"that boy was our last hope" but at that time Leia was held prisoner on Cloud City with no prospect of rescue especially as Luke's intervention was futile as it was so obviously a trap by Vader.

Another thing that really makes this a perfect movie for me, was John Williams beautiful score. There was such emotion behind the music. As always, excellent video!

I really am fond of the cloud city approach as well as the iconic asteroid field. You're right, it's a great score.

I remember that idiotic scream when I watched ESB in theaters in 1997 (SE Films). Just...........cringe. Lucas always had great ideas. The problem is that Lucas clearly lacked EQ (emotional maturity) and thus we got the mixed bag of the prequel movies. He didn't deal with emotion very well; look at Temple of Doom. By Lucas's own words, this was in reference to his divorce. As a guy that got divorced in 2021, I understand, but that isn't the way to deal with it. Also, you are correct that Lucas looked at the Force as a spiritual journey. However, unlike any and ALL religions of planet Earth, The Force clearly has definite and hard proof that it truly exists. Conjecture isn't proof and personal experience will never be proof of a supernatural...................Thanks for your thoughts on this amazing movie.

14:28 - I think modern editing would've shown tiny bits of this torture, when Luke sees it with the Force.
A similar edit can be done in RotJ when Leia is wounded & Luke feel her pain & thus Vader understand who she is (as in the novelization).

It wasn't until 30 years after i watched episode 5 in 1980, and many subsequent viewings vhs. That I noticed Luke's lighsaber laying on that walkway. Which I can only guess was used by the window cleaner, because why would it be there?

My thing with the cave has always been more what would have happened if Luke didn't take the weapons in? Darth Vader would have just sat on a log and been like So, uh, yeah..... What's up?

20:11 - There's also a plot-hole there: Could Vader have catch Luke? He was strong enough. Also why he did not arrange for a chase?

One could also say that Luke's cave test and failure were self manifested later on. Yoda telling Luke his weapons were not needed and Luke response to yoda's words, were later reflected in Luke flying to Cloud City and Yoda heeding "you must not go". The corridor Luke walks through before his final clash with Vader, resembles the pathway of the cave under the dark side tree before Vader appears.
I still remember the day I first watched star wars in 1977 and I was hooked. The interpretation of the force in all 3 original films , really matched my spiritual beliefs then(ages 4, 7, and 10 respectably)and to this day.

That's a really interesting interpretation of the Cloud City hallway. Gives me something to chew on. As for the interpretation of the force it looks like we share some beliefs as well.

I got one for ya.... in episode 4, after Greedo shot at Han, there was no blaster mark on the wall.
In episode 5 you pointed out Lando almost hit in the head by a deflected laser blast... that blast did leave a mark on the wall.

Every story has two sides! Who knows? What if Luke was The Space Joker who just wanted to see the Galaxy burn and Darth Vader was Space Batman?

12:55 - Not exactly: More for intimacy that Gary Kurtz thought was not in the mood of the film. In hindsight - Maybe it would've worked.

6:36 - It's unfortunate that Lucas never bothered to put all of this in writing. For the writers of the 90's EU (which started with Tim Zahn's trilogy) there was no 'rule book' or playbook from LucasFilms. Their main source was the game-book "The Star Wars Sourcebook" by West End Games from 1987. I don't get why no one at LF never thought to gather all those ideas.

I'll ask this now before you get big and famous - Why did you call your channel "Represent This"?

    • @RepresentThis
      @RepresentThis  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Well, I don't think my voice will ever be big enough to be famous Elmo, but I'm humbled you suggest such a thing and I guess that's part of the reason. There are so many things hidden from us by media in the past and today. Puff pieces, false narratives, scandals, etc. and most of all the attempts to trigger folks into thought processes in an effort to splinter us into separate groups. In my Alien 3 video you can see so many comments where people love that film and an equal number hate it and I love that. I also love that the comments are civil, and it can be discussed without name calling or stupidity (except for the odd 1 or 2 children). The last thing I or anyone should do is malign either side which seems to be the standard for most outlets especially Hollywood and critics of film. I want everyone who is Respectful of other views represented whether good and bad and to engage in a respectful discussion and I guess my channel wants the same.
The other reason is that there are so many negative outlets (whether pro or con) about Hollywood today and it is quite depressing from a film fan point of view. So far, my channel has been focused on movies from the past because they are still escapist and target all. It is my intention to continue this. I'm tired of the war between ideologies and at the same time I'm tired of bad films. So, I wanted a positive film approach that will not shy away from the good and bad things films offer regardless of outside influences unless they were weaved into the narrative origin, for example, Lucas based Star Wars on the Vietnam war. You could say by making my own channel it is not only therapeutic for my film love but cathartic as it takes me back to times when we could just talk about movies without the word woke or ideology or toxic or left or right or propaganda. Sure, there were some films with messages but most that had such things were considered pandering and rejected, rightfully so pre-2010. Sure, I will mention ideologies once in a while that try to infiltrate the past like in my Alien part 1 video but it is said to defend that past media from current politics. For me movies have always been something to savor and are like onions where you peel a layer to find a new one and each layer is something to savor. Spraying it with modern day stink has only tainted films by making trigger warnings before said movies on streaming, shunning greats like Gone With the Wind, just recently UK changing the rating of Mary Poppins and most of all maligning audiences who simply say, "I don't like this product." I look at movies with time travel glasses because they Represent that time and it in itself can be enlightening and educational to connect with those from said time rather than shun or judge them. That also needs to be Represented. I don't mind showing the ugly side of that time like I did in my Alien 3 videos. Such things only enhance the discussion. But the ugliness is from that time rather than transported from this time to then. That's why I go over when movies came out and what it was like then to see it in the time capsule it deserves. For instance, the movie All the President's Men was not anti-republican or pro-democrat it was anti-establishment, and it focused on a dramatic leaning that shone a light on something that crippled the society at that time. Both sides discussed the film without name calling. I question whether we can do that so easily today because there will be some cultural bullies who want to turn it into a modern separatist viewpoint.
I guess this is a long answer to a short question, but I appreciate you asking it and I thank you for listening to me Represent these things, thus Represent This.

@@RepresentThis Fantastic answer! Thanks very much!
And you're absolutely right about the difficulties of preserving how a movie was received at the time of release. I think your years of toy, media and merchandise collecting has given you a kind of time machine - resulting in insights that I've never heard before. Your video on the true intentions for Darth Vader is a prime example of that.
Keep up the good work! And fingers crossed one of your videos goes viral and brings you the views and subs that you deserve.

What's interesting about Luke sensing Han's torture and Leia's suffering is they happen AFTER Luke senses them. The scene where Han is tortured is after Luke has visions of their pain. Just incredible writing.
