6 minutes at 325. in the oven and it cooks it fully in the small pan. I have one like it and it works great for sandwiches and such. No flipping necessary.
I agree. I fiddled around with cooking an egg on the stovetop with this skillet with unsatisfactory results, then recently discovered I can simply plop it into my toaster oven, 350 degrees for 10 minutes and it's the perfect sandwich egg!
If you have three of those, and you have an induction stove top, you can cook three things at once on the largest induction thingy. So, if you were doing sausage and egg muffins, you can do three at a time. You don't need to flip btw... you can just put it under the grill. A good quality seasoned beef sausage, taken out of its casing and pressed down into that pan would make a nice sausage patty.
I have a #3 Griswold that measures 7” spout to spout, and has a 5.25” cooking surface. Perfect for an egg, 2 scrambled, and a hamburger for one. I love it!
I have this 3 1/2" skillet too! I love to use this to fry one egg & make pancakes (the size is just right for me, I like making smaller pancakes ;) ), so easy to use!
I have one extremely similar, it had a fancy smelling candle that looked like some kind of cobbler. Melted all the was out of it, seasoned it ... Very pleased with it, I don't get how people just throw out a perfectly good skillet because some wax was in it preseasoning.
I'm pretty sure I've seen those tiny pans used to bake little pan cookies in restaurants. You bake a single cookie in the mini iron pan and then top with ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate ganache and you have a lovely little fresh cookie sundae.
I use mine on a small wood coaster to keep cheese or dipping sauce warm for when its just my wife and I. Keeps the dips/sauces warm longer without having to make a bunch. Even works great for making chocolate sauce filled brownies with our daughter or any baking she wants to try. Less mess than a big pan and it fits her hands better. lol
I have a 4 inch nonstick skillet that had been around at least 10 years in a child's cook set and thought I would give it a try and I love it for cooking eggs and whatever will fit in it! Have baked a biscuit on stovetop, air fryer, oven. Covering egg with a saucer eliminates any other step! Lids for these are outrageous in price! Happy cooking!!
They should make a combo cooker version of the 3"er. The type that has a lid with a handle just like the pan. All you'd have to do is flip the whole thing over to finish cooking the other side. I'd get one.
I've been doing this for a long time.... Love my little cast iron skillets.... I use two on one burner (glass top) they make a perfect size egg for breakfast sandwiches and once the skillets are nice and seasoned-- they are the best ever !
I love the three sizes of Lodge cast iron I own (10", 8" and 6 1/4") so I'm tempted to buy and use the little baby Lodge as you indicated. Thanks for your suggestion. If it's Lodge, it has to be awesome.
The average Chinese ironware at dollar stores is giving brands like Lodge and Le Creuset a run for their money. Of course, it’s nice to support an American brand like Lodge that keeps its prices reasonable. The French stuff is being copied like crazy now.
@@j_freed All the modern Chinese cast iron I see and feel has a super rough sandpaper-like texture that disintigrates a paper towel when I wipe the pan down with oil. Lodge is more like an orange peel texture. There seems to be a big difference in quality between American and Chinese still.
Ohhhh shit I never thought to use this for tempering spices!!! I just saw one of these for sale elsewhere and didn’t think id get any use for it. Ok I’m gonna have to get it now
I LOVE mine! To make it non-stick, the first thing I did was SAND IT SMOOTH inside, and re-season it. Now I just fry a sausage patty in a 10" pan, while melting a pat of butter in this small pan. I dump out the excess butter, then add the egg, barely breaking the yolk. When the sausage is almost done, I drop the muffin into the toaster and turn the egg out into the pan frying the sausage. The result: a perfect egg McMuffin in under 12 minutes without having to wait in line!
Yes I've seen that many of the mini cast irons are sold as ashtrays and spoon holders, but clean they are perfect if you just want to make a small egg sandwich on an English muffin like this as a snack. I don't have the smaller round Lodge, but I do have a Griswold 129 which is about the same size but square.
I have one of those mini skillets, and also the 6" one. I've never use the very small one for cooking, though, because it is too small for my electric burners. Right now I'm using it as a tray for my salt grinder.
I only use a Nuwave cook top with all my cast iron pans 3 inch to 10 inch and my stainless cook wear , it regulates the temperature and also the cooking time and shuts off automatically. I cook with my 9 inch cast iron pan almost daily and use two 6 inch cast iron pans to make my corn bread. John S.
You could try to put some type of tiny lid to allow the heat to cook the top. Just get your timing down. That is an Americas Test Kitchen trick that works very well. Thanks for your videos and dedicated work.
I pour a bit of my bacon grease from the other pan onto the top of the egg to finish it off and it cooks really fast as well as gets more bacon flavor :D
I use the ring of a mason jar lid! perfect, round, runny yolk eggs. I spray it with non stick spray so that the egg doesnt stick to it and once i see it starting to cook on top (i like to cover the egg while still in the ring with a pan lid) and then remove the ring and flip and let it finish. Get great breakfast sandwiches everytime.
I love my tiny little pans. I use them to melt butter for pancakes and other pastries. I also use them for individual corn cakes, cobblers or frying up a few chopped onions, bell peppers or jalapenos. Perfect little things! :)
I bought two of them last week and did the same thing. My wife loves those Egg Muffins. Going to bring them with us on vacation at the cabins for simple breakfast. Not much to do low profile and throw them back in the container in the trunk. Thanks for the tip.
I have several of these mini skillets and I use them to bake cookies in or for the extra batter when I make muffins. I'll have to try this idea for cooking an egg, thanks!
Cooking With Cast Iron You got that right, cookie and also brownies, i got a very small one for Christmas with brownie mix. love your video's, very informative on the care of CI. Thanks so much

Lodge already has a pan for that... www.lodgemfg.com/bakeware/cast-iron-muffin-pan.asp Eidted to add: "and serve in the skillets"... I missed that part, I stand corrected.
I happened upon one one your cast iron videos, and was gladdened to discover another cast iron 'nut'. I am never going back to the non-stick life. Give me cast iron, and I can cook!
Neat. I just make a scrambled mass of 2-3 eggs with great skill & fold this onto a toasted English Muffin with the cheese. Its not so hard, and actually looks way more delicious. Lately I enjoy using salted butter, FG pepper and dry sage and basil.
When I cook an egg in my 6' cast iron skillet I coat it with a thin coat of oil then heat it on medium low until hot. Then drop in the egg and immediately cover it with a small glass lid and turn off the heat. the residual heat from the skillet and the trapped heat will cook the whites thoroughly to sunny side up with a runny yoke. Don't want a runny yoke, keep it covered longer.
Head to Aldi and buy their frozen pre-cooked breakfast sausage patties. 1 minute in the microwave to be ready for the sandwich, and they are perfect muffin size. So delicious.
I have a mini sized cast iron skillet but the rim is about 3/8 inch high. Looks almost like a spoon rest, but for one egg it's perfect. No marks to identify the maker. This thing has had a lot of use. I bought it at an estate sale along with three old LP records for two dollars.
I just got a small pan and used it for the first time this morning. I scrambled 2 large eggs which ended up being a little too much lol... I'll try one at a time. But the sandwich was wonderful!
I have 2 of those use them daily, also I made a cast iron spatula from a 18.00 Lodge skillet and I heat it up and hold it over the top of the egg until done.
I have a small one that's oblong and shallow was for cooking tortillas shells but it works perfectly for a strip of bacon cut 1/2 and a single egg just as the bacon is finishing. My favorite pan.
the secret to frying an egg in one of these tiny skiilets is a cover. what i do is heat the pan up to cooking temp, add a thin slice of cold butter and immediately crack in the egg and cover with aluminum foil. leave it alone for 3 minutes, uncover, flip and continue cooking for about half a minute. the moisture in the butter+the cover steams the top of the egg and also helps prevent the egg from sticking to the pan. if you wanted to use a different fat, i would add some water to the pan after cracking in the egg and cover it as quickly as possible. make sure the pan is hot
Just saw this on Lodge, promoting as individual cooking and serving dishes. Mini skillet for cornbread or eggs, mini Cauldron/Kettle for soup or individual mac n cheese, even cast iron bowls and serving plates, all oven safe and, SURPRISE, apparently rust proof due to some special heat treatment, which is smart if your gonna serve meals on it. (Don't know if the 3.5" is included in that). Even have mini trivets to serve it on to protect tabletop. Odd choice of tableware but I guess it's a nice idea if you're into theme dinner parties, like country cooking night or southern food night.
I had got one of these things with the exact same idea in mind. Had pretty similar results too. It worked although it was a little tedious. To finish off the egg I could flip it with or a fork or add a few drops of water and then cover quickly. The steam kind of poaches the rest of the uncooked egg. Might be useful if you wanna try again without needing a second frypan.
Stocking stuffers is a great idea!❤ I LOVE egge McMuffins BUT I know what’s in them so I haven’t had one in a very long time. Hopefully soon I will get one of these little ones.🙏🏻👍🙏🏻
I have this little Lodge, use it for a spoon rest and it works great for that! I also have a Lodge 5" skillet with the cast iron lid that fits it. Haven't used it, I just wanted it to go with all my other Lodge cast iron. Oh yes, my next piece of Lodge is the Sportsman's cast iron grill/hibachi and I plan to use hickory wood in it!!
I bought one of those at a local store that cares some cast iron. I had the same thought in mind. I'm thinking you could probably bake it too. I haven't tried mine yet but if it works in the oven I may get a couple more so I can make my kids some breakfast sandwiches
Have you tried flipping it with a little rubber spatula? Looks like it holds together enough it would flip easy. I need to get myself one of these tiny skillets for eggs. I love making egg and cheese McMuffins. I like that it’s the perfect size. And mine will have American cheese lol
That baby 👶 😍 💕 LODGE Skillet is adorable! I guessing that one of the STANLEY COOK SET Lids would fit it very well. A lid for melting cheese on a tiny burger 🍔 😋 or Sausage Sammy. A collapsible Silicone Cup might work as a Dome Lid too. I could find a ton of uses for it. Use it on a MyMini 5" grill plate for Deep Dish Biscuit Pizza. ❤
I like your counter top. It gives me a good idea for my kitchen island concept. I acquired an armload of 12" floor tiles and I`m gonna cement them onto my island top, if I can. Love the McMuffin idea too. Thanks
I saw one of these from a local company. It was so cute I wanted to buy it but for the price I didn’t think it would get much use. Having to use two pans seems like too much. Love that it fits on yours English muffin perfectly tho. I usually do croissant egg sandwiches so the weird shape my eggs usually make in bigger pans works well for the croissant shape.
Hi, good video thanks. is the base of this pan big enough to fit a standard hamburger bun? Any idea? A standard bun would be 3.5 but this skillet looks smaller.
Many comments about them being used as an ashtray...of course you can but the one I have actually have longer pour spouts to hold a cigarette and is obviously a novelty item. The bottom has a stuck on floral design. My no name #5 with a ring can cook two eggs beautifully over easy with a lid...a third egg can snuggle in there just nicely. If I had one of these I would use it on a griddle or inside a larger skillet...I like the hair on my knuckles! Four of these would be nice. I could get real creative with something like this.
i think is so cute and its perfect for a egg sand. dont be disappointed. you can flip that little pan , trust me i have one that size and you can flip it , mine is not a cast iron but is that size.
I've got 2 of the tiny pans. One of them is an "ashtray" or spoon rest design. (I'm NOT letting the "ashtray" version in my kitchen) but the spoon rest version is allowed (even though they are the same design.) The other is a "tiny skillet" design. I haven't used either one for any more than a spoon rest. (And, they both are "pebbly" as heck.) (New Lodge finish.) steve
Hi Steve. Same. I have 2. None used as ashtrays here either. I have a tiny 3.5" Griswold skillet that I've thoroughly cleaned and seasoned and simply use to hold a small piece of chain mail I sometimes use for lightly cleaning my other ci pieces, and another tiny skillet I just acquired on ebay. It has 'Bay Springs Bank Heidelberg' thickly cast onto the inside cooking surface, but it looks like if I use a generous bit of butter an egg will just flip out easily for a nice single egg to put on an English muffin. I like the mini skillets. They're kind of a novelty but usable.
Actually 2 different products on Lodge's website. They have this which is the 3.5" skillet and then they have a 3.5" skillet spoonholder with more almost like crucible looking pour spout sides.
I've viewed this video a few times and this time read all 404 comments. Some interesting egg cooking options were shared, some for these miniature Lodge skillets. I just got 3 of them, primarily for baking. But I think I will try some of the suggestions for making eggs. I normally don't bother with making one egg so having multiple mini skillets should be fun. I make homemade bread so I could make sandwiches of any size or shape. Refrigerator dough from the store would also work for people that don't make their own. I have the 6.5" and 5" square skillets because it's fun to try different things with cast iron skillets of different sizes. Are you still using the mini skillet for sandwiches or just keeping as wall decor?
help please. i'm thinking of buying a round 10.5 cast iron pan but i would have to use it on a 6 inch eletric burner, would the whole pan heat up evenly all over or be hotter just ware the pan sits on the burner??? thanks
***** I have 2 hanging on the wall in the kitchen. I think they are ornaments as my ex put them up, not for real cooking or they would have made the handle a bit bigger! it's measurements/characteristics are the same as all the other pans in their inventory. But I have cooked eggs in one and flip the egg the same as you would in a larger pan IF it's cured right. I even used a large spoon which did flip the egg.
Get a round Rome pie iron I use one on my stove I cook my sausage first then toast my English muffin in it then cook the egg put together your sandwich and you can heat the entire thing inside if you want also you can make awesome desserts and other sandwiches they are made of cast iron and come in many shapes and sizes but it's perfect for what you're doing.
6 minutes at 325. in the oven and it cooks it fully in the small pan. I have one like it and it works great for sandwiches and such. No flipping necessary.

@@Kev-3006 This is the way I would do it. No need to heat the oven.
Just got one of these. I put it directly inside of my #10 pan. That way I can cook an egg separately from whatever else I'm cooking.

Nice! I really love my lodge dual side griddle. Haven't looked into the sportsman grill yet.
Eggs-actly! Homemade is always better than buying outside, not as convenient, but better! Use it well, now I'm gonna get me one!
Heck yeah!
I think getting back to doing and thinking for ourselves more, we will re- earn our respect for for this life
I like how the egg didn't stick in the small skillet and it finished perfectly in the larger skillet.
Thank you for posting this, the other search results were driving me INSANE.
It's so widdle! holy shit that is adorable
lol, it hangs on the wall now most of the time as a decoration
i have a dinky little one back home that says"in this house we cook as little as possible" only use i could find for it is to hold my spoon
Itty bitty frying pan... soooo cute!
Nice Pan!
I bought one of those at a local store that cares some cast iron. I had the same thought in mind. I'm thinking you could probably bake it too. I haven't tried mine yet but if it works in the oven I may get a couple more so I can make my kids some breakfast sandwiches
I have 1 to...works great...i can flip it in small pan...took awhile to learn
I loved your video so much that I went out and bought 2 of these at my local Home Hardware store. $15 Canadian each. Better than Amazon price!
Thanks
It can even be purchased just to have it. So sweet pan :))
Those work great for spoon rests.
I saw one of these from a local company. It was so cute I wanted to buy it but for the price I didn’t think it would get much use. Having to use two pans seems like too much. Love that it fits on yours English muffin perfectly tho. I usually do croissant egg sandwiches so the weird shape my eggs usually make in bigger pans works well for the croissant shape.
that looks mad good yo
It was =)
you can get egg rings for 5 bucks and use like 4 of em in an 11" pan.
Ick. Egg rings aren't cast iron.
Dave how boring
Every egg ring ive ever tried has not been truly flat either. Tossed them in the trash.
oh the little one is soooo cute!!!!!! perfect for one egg!
Looks really good.
Aw! A baby skillet, so cute.
+Tammy Fontenot =D
THANK YOU SO MUCH. I LOVE IT!!!!
Second skillet would’ve been best at full cooking heat... then turned off after 20 second after egg was dropped in. Excellent video
I would love to have a few on my wall.
i think is so cute and its perfect for a egg sand. dont be disappointed. you can flip that little pan , trust me i have one that size and you can flip it , mine is not a cast iron but is that size.
+champir3 good to know!
+champir3 the cast iron has sharper angles on it's sides though. I'm sure you can flip it but probably harder than ones actually designed for flipping
Ok now thats cool im going to try that
I've got 2 of the tiny pans. One of them is an
"ashtray" or spoon rest design. (I'm NOT letting
the "ashtray" version in my kitchen) but the
spoon rest version is allowed (even though
they are the same design.) The other is a
"tiny skillet" design.
I haven't used either one for any more than
a spoon rest. (And, they both are "pebbly"
as heck.) (New Lodge finish.)
steve
haha yeah this one is really "pebbly", I have used it a few times but mostly it hangs on the wall. Cheers!
Hi Steve. Same.
Perfect egg McMuffin. Cool.
Amazon is the ONLY company having the USPS deliver on Sundays.
Yeah thats nice
THANK YOU, AMAZON!!!
It's meant to be a spoon holder for your stove top. Keeps messy spoons from messing up your stove.
Were Wolfcub Good idea
Actually 2 different products on Lodge's website. They have this which is the 3.5" skillet and then they have a 3.5" skillet spoonholder with more almost like crucible looking pour spout sides.
Is the #5 a Vollrath?
Cool i just ordered one, $6.22 shipped. Wont hurt to try lol. Thanks.
Academy sports sell them for $3.99
i usually make an egg mcmuffin before work, and i bought the tiny skillet specifically for the perfectly sized round egg
Have 2 griswolds same size. Since they’re called ashtrays I was using them for cigars. Now I have to clean them
help please. i'm thinking of buying a round 10.5 cast iron pan but i would have to use it on a 6 inch eletric burner, would the whole pan heat up evenly all over or be hotter just ware the pan sits on the burner??? thanks
I have one of those mini cast iron skillets....I use it as an ashtray. I didn't think it was actually meant for cooking because it's so small.
Lol nice. Good idea.
***** LOL right!! I have two and once peeps saw them they became ash trays....I was like, uh hello!!!
Karmah's Law you just admitted how dumb you are!
obviously it was meant for cooking...one egg or one burger when you dont want to mess a big skillet up...
Great video, actually really enjoyed this one
Timothy Halleran Thanks!
Good idea
nice video on the 3.5 i looked at the 6.5 the other day and thought it would fit perfect in my back pack now i want a 3.5 as well ...........
haha, I hope you are not packing far? seems like a lot of weight even for the 6.5
hmm i thought it felt kind of light for cast iron ? we only pack in a day or 2 at a time though small weekend trips
What’s the dimension of the next size? Nice video thanks.
Yum yum gimme some! Looks even better than McDonald's!
Mmmmhhmmm!
Cyko niiiiiiii
Very cute!
