    Crazy how much skateboarding has evolved, if it wasn't for the global pandemic I wouldn't have gotten back into skating after stopping after graduating high-school almost 6 years ago. Now im 25 and back at it reminding my body of old tricks I'd do, growing up seeing Nyjah Huston on trans-world magazine's cover. Not gonna lie, it's a water shed moment in our crazy sport and I'm happy seeing the world compete for Olympic glory

    No amount of watching the younger generation on screen in the olympics will make me be able to forget the way we were treated in the 80s and 90s in a lot of towns, in school, by jocks, by adults, teachers, business owners, and by the police, unsolicited. I'm glad to see a lot of that changed through the 2000s and I'll be very happy to see future changes, but you all will still be my family of misfits.

    Skateboarding was everything to me when I was younger, it made me feel special and accepted. Unfortunately I had to walk away and grow up and became an adult. Now 14 years later I started again and couldn’t be happier that it’s back in my life. He said we are misfits and that hit home, but now we can be like so many others and become olympians. This made me so proud of being part of this community.

    I love this... I'm no skater but always a countercultured misfit who's been admiring this discipline since I was a kid in the 90's (yeah, Extreme Games and all). This really moved me, but also made me regret not having the courage back in the day to put a foot on a skateboard, that's besides the point though. What I really want to say it's that is been a joy to watch you all evolve and this next step it's beautiful, not because of some sort of validation or respect from formal institutions you guys don't need, but for the education you are giving them. LFG!

    Cuando logras un truco después de practicar por mucho tiempo tienes una sensación de plenitud increíble.
    ¡Ojalá más personas patinen y existan más espacios para hacerlo!

    Makes me wonder how different other sports are when not practiced as an Olympic discipline. Like, do tumblers just invent new tricks all the time? ... are there actually interesting and creative facets to platform diving? I know figure skating has a thriving artistic scene with moves not recognized by the Olympic standards (backflips, slides where more than the skates touch the ice etc), a video exploring and showing the non-Olympic side of sports would be interesting.

    • @USAjudo
      @USAjudo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      What's so insane about skating is how much of it is just absolute grind by yourself. There arnt any skate academies or coaches really out there. When you see a pro, your seeing the combination of sheer will. Essentially a self portrait. The artist is the art itself. That's why I started skating recently at 21. I don't have to deal with anyone but my own fears. I am my greatest competition.
