Knowledge is a deadly friend when no one sets the rules is one of the most profound lyrical passages I have ever heard. I was 22 and just back from two combat tours in Vietnam. I knew first the capacity of humans for foolishness and cruelty. They just put it into words. BTW, I still have the original album I brought in the fist week it was issued. This sounds exactly the same. Yes musicians were capable back then. They actually had unassisted talent.

The original recording from Court of the Crimson King is the best and greatest version by far. It is on my bookcase with pride of place. I am from the same town as he was, although slightly younger.... the original of this has always been my favourite by far, you deserve to listen to that to compare......

First hears this when I was still in HS in 1969/1970. We all had Viet Nam hanging over us. Unfortunately, it's still relevant today (Putin promising to put nukes into orbit) as then. Where's Reagan when you need him!

in this song greg lake played the bass on this song and was the singer as well, Greg left king crimson shortly after their debut album (court of the crimson king). Greg went onto form a new band with Keith Emerson and Carl Palmer, ELP a fantastic prog rock band, Greg is one of my favorite singers of all time......

In the early 1980’s KC took on a different lineup with Robert Fripp and Bill Bruford (of course)…but with also Adrian Belew and Tony Levin. They produced 3 albums. Check out “Frame by Frame” which has some very interesting juxtapositioned guitar time signatures and “Matte Kudasai”…oh and “Sleepless”.

Greg Lake was KC's ORIGINAL bassist back in '68 until he "formally left" in 1970 to form ELP (after doing vocals for KC's IN THE WAKE OF POSEIDON). I dabbled with KC on & off after that - LIZARD & ISLANDS were pretty decent but ELP commanded more of my ProgEar time thereafter.

Tarkus by ELP, "Court of KC" by KC, ( anso known as King Creamsong "Wake of Poseidon" by KC and "Tales from Topographic oceans" by Yes : albums that my older brothers had in the 70's. that go well together. Since I didn't have money to buy records, I kinda skipped the late 70's and 80's records by them. Add 'Close To The Edge" by Yes, Chicago by Chicago, Pink Floyd DSoTM and Pink Floyd "Ummagumma". so that's my definition of prog rock + some of Genesis, Well, let's add Gentle Giant and PFM Photos of Ghosts
