Wagon life for me, super handy, and who doesn’t like a beer in the back watching the sunset over the ocean on a hot Friday eve.
You are right! You gotta have both. Wagon for family trip and saloon for a date cruise. Then you are a happy volvo man 😆
Right on!
I'm glad I went with a wagon, it's brought so much to my life, to throw an umbrella and a beach chair in the back, to sleep in, cook in. I can toss my canoe on the top, it's just a faithful steed, and yep the shape is great.
Well said!
I have a collection of classic Volvo's, with ZERO rust to report!
Please continue with your excellent restoration work, cheers.
Very nice! Thanks 🙂
The 240 saloon looks very elegant somehow, loving the chrome grille
Lili is looking super cool with her chrome grill. Can't wait to see Millie (my name for the wagon) rise again like a phoenix from the ashes.
That's a nice name!
maybe Willie (W for Wagon) 🤷♂@@Involvod
I love the wagons but it has to be a saloon for me if I was forced to choose. I just love big saloon cars.
Estate its is! Love how supportive youre wife is with the projects, that's a real blessing
Magnus is a sick name
I second this!
Many thanks Sledge, Miss Involvo'd and Baby Involvo'd for another top quality video. I think you have the best of both worlds having Lili the sedan and the wagon / project. I really enjoy listening to you talk about your Volvos in the way that you do.
Thanks, much appreciated 🙂👍
Magnus is a DOPE name for a car, to be fair.
the chrome grill looks way better and I can't hold my laughs when the bells start to ring at any video. cheers all the way from brazil
Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Saloon every time - they just look awesome.
Personally I'd keep the black grille and black window frames, looks way cooler 😊
I like the chrome grill best! Mine is the black one. I might look for a chrome, when I get her back on the road!
Nice, surprisingly you can buy them new here and they're not as expensive as I thought, hopefully the same there
I so often use my hatchback as a van I don't think I could go back to having a saloon as my only car. I had a 940 estate some years ago and would like another one day.
Chrome is the way to go! Fabulous news that you allready have a donor hart 💖 for “ Wanda” the wagon! 🤪 You have to come up 🆙 with a name for her! But anyways, Chrome window frames will look fab! My dad had a dark green 245 from ‘77 all Chrome!! The same like the project simpsons garage I believe! Love you guys! And the the bells 🔔, good replacement for the “Berliner Matratze “😜
Haha yeah! Nice suggestion, thanks 🙂
Definitely have to have both sedan and estate! 👍 For me, I think the original black grill looks better on Lili, even if it doesn’t have the impact of the chrome. On those door frames I think a polished stainless surface would look a bit odd personally. I could see it on an old 245 but not on a late wagon like yours. Looking fwd to the engine transplant and the body repair vids.
You can't beat a Volvo Estate 🙂 Might be worth putting some gear oil on the bores to protect them a but from surface corrosion. The garage probably suspect a bearing failing as they didn't find big problems with the head! Great news on the engine.
That's true 👍 Thanks
Ah the church bells of small towns in Southern Germany! It adds character to your videos and builds character for yourself. After a few years you will miss them if suddenly you were not to hear them. As always, looking forward to your next videos.
Thanks 🙂
Love hearing the bells as well. I know they aggravate you, but they really do add something special to your videos.
Other versions were 2 doors which were also quite attractive. But what you need is a 262 Coupe.
Would love one!
My first 240 was a sedan, I didn't do much with that car before I sold it so I didn't bond with it, but my second was an M46 wagon that I used extensively, I loved that car. I now own a 1990 sedan with an automatic, and for the longest time I wish it was a stick shift wagon, but I've noticed that there are actually lots of benefits with the sedan. I can keep stuff more securely in the trunk, there's less cabin volume so the AC works better, and it's quieter on the highway. The sedan is also lighter and has shorter tires, so they're a little zippier, but it's not noticeable unless you drive them back to back. Sedan tail lights are a pain to deal with, and I can fit long items in the sedan (no fold down rear seat) but those aren't inconveniences that you deal with every day, just on occasion, so to me it's worth it.
I would be okay with just watching every time you clean Lilly
Thanks 🙂
For me its definetely the estate which works. Of course Lilly is beutifully too. Please save the old "wagon"! Oh and the chrome grill is grate.
Thanks 🙂
Both the wagon &the saloon are good cars.
Great to see the saloon and estate. Estate be great when you have 5 kids with boot seats! Lol😁Then a Volvo Laplander! Always liked them. Like the 240 and 740 saloon. Seem more classy than the estate. Always had an estate. 740 240 and now 940. Your daughter is growing fast. Glad you found an engine. James.👍
Thanks 🙂
Hi, for Me an Estate for the sheer practicality. Also I have had many happy times and memories with My estates, camping trips with sleeping in the back, piling many kids in and going to the seaside, and all that kind of thing. Actually the main reason I bought My 740 was it is much easier to load and unload My mobility scooter, and still get loads of stuff in too. I am planning to make a very small fitted kitchen unit so I can do cooking and make a cup of tea while sitting in the back out of the rain.
Oh I forgot to say when You are welding You will need Ms Involvo'd to stand by ready as a fireman/woman, to extinguish any fires that may start! (actually that happens quite a lot) You will
have to get Her a fireman's helmet and a tiny one for Baby involvo'd too ; - ) Best Wishes Dee
That sounds like a great project! I don't think I've ever seen anything like that done before. Good point about the welding 😅
Standard with chrome grille on 1993 models!
Have been watching you for ages. Finally getting a Volvo tomorrow. It's a sight unseen 740 2.3 gle manual. MOT ran out on the 5th. It's a wagon aswell. Could finally justify getting one as my wife's just had a baby aswell. Hiring a trailer in the morning then it's a 400mile round trip in my 1991 land rover defender. Hope it won't take to long to get back on the. Always a gamble buying blind. But the 740s estates are getting harder to find on a budget.
👍
Oh awesome, congrats on the purchase! Hope it all goes well 👍
Saloon all day long and twice on Sunday, Mate! Easy decision.
My first Volvo was a 92 244 in blue-green metallic with the Classic alloys, auto, leather and AC. It was a nice car. Miss it dearly.
I can't decide on either so much that I'd have both. The wagon has it's practicality especially for camping as I do that a few times a year plus carrying large items and the sedan is good for a cruise.
Last year I was working on a two-car solution so I bought a rare 80's Pontiac sedan. Its purpose is to be the back up car for when the 245 is in the shop but also for going to car shows. (the 245 still goes to shows)
Agreed! I saw the Pontiac on IG, it's lovely. I'd love to have an old American rig
@@Involvod The Pontiac isn't as good on fuel as the 245 but it is a conversation piece.
Wagon. they're just cooler in every way
I love vovos 240 saloon love watching your videos mate estate needs nice set of Volvo alloys
Thanks 👍
Yes Save it!!!
That 240 engine sounds like mine 740, piston slap. There's a saying that goes something like this: If it doesn't run - chrome it! Take care.
Nice, it's music to my ears now, it sounds like home 😀 Thanks 👍
YES MORE CHROME MORE BETTER
Well the 2 series saloon and estate are, in my view, equally pretty. Quite timeless. On 7s and 9s, I never found the saloon shape attractive and it dated much more than the estate.
Again a great vid, thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
I’d happily have a GLT 240 with the 2.3 litre engine
I wish I could find a saloon with leather and auto....
I am lucky to have nice cars now, but I still miss my 1990 240 GLT
Maybe make Lili the chrome car with polished window frames and chrome grille and the estate a "shadow line" GLT / Turbo look. That would be cool.
That's an interesting idea! 🤔
@@Involvod And once you've welded her you could try to do some paintwork yourself, since it's not metallic it might turn out rather good after polishing.
@@fhwolthuis exactly, that's why I'm less worried about having a go on those rear arches than on Lili 😅
My first was an ‘82 wagon. Definitely miss it but love my ‘93 sedan, always looking to have the whole fleet 😂
Looking forward to your first camping trip 😊
I've got two volvo wagons and I love them but on a 240 I much prefer the saloon
Wagon with the wheels from the sedan
Have to keep both 👍, one will never be enough 🤗🤗
🔔🔔 of doom keeping you company as always 🤣😂🤗
The chrome-effect grille somehow makes a post-1986 240 look more modern, a bit like black-painted bumpers do on certain late model mark 5 Cortinas and Taunus TC3s.
On a related note, why not call the estate the Fjord Cortina/Fjord Taunus? :)
Haha nice idea 😄
I Love Ford Taunus TC2 and TC3🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪
Against all odds IF you decide to scrap it, i would be interested in buying the chrome roofrack ;)
Erik in Sweden
Will keep it in mind 🙂
Love from Sweden. You deserve 100k subs, not 10. *dong dong* :)
Thanks 😀
The ole wagon VS sedan debate. Having both, the wagon is awesome but the sedan is a quieter everyday car. The wagon echoes all the road noise and the sedan is more muffled. Really tough to choose otherwise.
That's a good point. I think I prefer the wagon in summer for it's open airy feel and saloons are quite cozy in the winter
@@Involvod That's true. I've often wondered how hard it would be to make the rear hatch window open. Would be an excellent beach cruiser!
dong dong dongdong dong dongdong dong dong
I couldn't choose. So I have a 940 GL wagon and a 240 GLE sedan. And I refuse to part with either.
Same here! The 740 wagon and 240 sedan are permanent members of the family now
👍👊
😂😂 you just can't escape the Bells
I thought you got the old cylinder head with Magnus when you bought it? If so, put that on the block to further slow down any chance of the bores rusting up.
I guess it doesn't matter...since you've got another engine on the way.
Well ye stole my thunder right at the end with the replacement engine. Once ye get yer welding gear(and trainin) all this body work will be easy enough to repair. At least you will have half a chance of gettn second hand parts on the continent. Happy days ahead. Later 😂
Love the all chrome grille on Lili!!! I just got a chrome outlined grille from a 240 someone scrapped last week! It had the turbo Virgo wheels I am pining for but someone had purchased them already it was such a tease to see and touch them. I can't wait to see more on the wagon! I'd personally keep the black on the wagon but I'm a bit of a stock original lady (with some modifications within Volvo 240 variations of course). Mine is a '93 and the chrome grille isn't original to it but I thi m more chrome looks better for sure.
Question: what do you use to polish the grille? I want to clean mine up before mounting it and I don't want to use anything an abrasive so to damage the chrome layer. Would Dawn soap and ammonia free Windex suffice?
Best to you and your family!
Thanks! I've always used Autosol polish but it might be too aggressive for chromed plastic, I've never had any issues though
It has to be an estate for me every time as we have three large rescue greyhounds I'm sure they just see me as an uber driver
😄😄😄
Hi Sledge, do we see you again in Holland for the Volvo 'beurs' in Rosmalen (23 and 24 of september)? Would be nice to greet you there. Already got the Involvo'd sticker on my 240 Turbo. Maybe you can sell other merchandising?😉
I presume you put oil soaked rags in each of the bores.
I am thinking to buy a 240 polar petrol. I will use it as a daily driver and i wonder if it burns a lot of fuel or if its like a standard car. Hopefully someone can let me know :)
Rust is so terrifying! I think I should soon use some of that fluid film just in case.
By the way, 240s made from 1987 are galvanized, aren't they? I forgot which year yours is from, I'm sure it's prior to 87 then
When you have SMA on the other tab 😮.......😂
Im the 241st like on this video and I feel bad about it
So it was YOU! Haha, I appreciate it 🙂👍
Do u have htrim for left side bumper it look as a big L in krom on 245??????
Sadly not, a lot of people are looking for those.. someone should make them!
Hello! I recently bought an 86 240 sedan and I'm locked out of the trunk. Any tips?
Depending on how small you are you might be able to climb through the hole behind the rear arm rest 😅 I'm not sure if there's a way, but if you find it do let me know as I'm worried about doing that all the time!
