how did you make the saturated NaCl solution, it hydrolysed the ester in my reaction.
why the water temperature only need 64-67 Celsius degree?? how did the reaction reach equilibrium ?
Methanol will reflux at this temperature.
Can Diethyl Ether be replaced with a more friendly solvent like Petroleum Ether (Naphta)?
Naphta is a non-polar solvent, therefore it wont work.
I tried it and it worked...

Nitro The Diethyl ether is just the extraction step and the Methyl Benzoate is poorly soluble in water but dissolves well in organic solvent. :)
He uses the diethyl ether because it's convenient to separate from the product as it boils at around 35 C.
