Wow, your spreadsheet can give GenX "A Run For His Money!" Get it...Run! 😂 It's amazing how far sports medicine/performance training has gone since the development of real-time data acquisition systems for athletes. By chance, would you consider developing a "beginner's tutorial" playlist for us "large bodies" that are ready to start a walking/running regiment but need help getting started. An experienced athlete such as yourself would offer so much knowledge and experience.
Step 1) buying the right shoes! We have two stores where I live called "Fleet Feet". They specialize in running apparel and in particular running shoes and accessories. They put you on a treadmill and video record your steps as you walk/run. Looking at the recording, they can figure out what's up with your feet and stride, and offer suggestions for the right shoes and inserts accordingly. I'm heading there this weekend to get started. The shoes aren't cheap, but... "you gotta have the right tools for the right job!" Good video!

DoN - the spreadsheet is not mine. It is a collaboration between Steve Bateman and myself.

Is it important to use two dissimilar races (e.g. 10k and marathon)? Or can you use 2 marathons or two half marathons?

Thank you for this question, Steve. One should not use same-distance races. Ideally if one's future planning will reference FTP/CP -> marathon, for example, then 10K -> marathon historical exponent is more useful than historical 5K -> marathon, or historical HM -> marathon. And along the same line, if one hasa good historical HM -> marathon exponent, then in planning, if one has a HM in the build to the marathon, using the HM power and duration, historical HM -> marathon Riegel exponent, among the other variables could provide a valid planning look at the upcoming marathon.
